I volunteered in animal rescue and had rescue dogs growing up. Even though they were spoiled they always were escape artists. I do think stray dogs are much more likely to be escape artists and it can be difficult to chase them down when they get out of the yard even if they have their tags on. It was very upsetting for me when that would happen and I feel bad about Chooqy running away. I am in Albania now and there are so many stray dogs and cats here and it makes me really sad. You are absolutely right that the best thing we could do is to raise money to catch and spay and neuter the adult dogs. Also try to shelter the dogs that really need to be adopted. maybe there are other animal rescuers in Iraq or other places that you can talk with so you have support? You could also contact the dodo it is a channel on you tube that features animal rescuers maybe you could submit some videos to them about the stray animals there. You are a really good man for loving and wanting to help the animals!! 💗🐶

Hi Bruce. Your plan for neutering and vaccinating stray dogs is very kind. You would be doing a great service to the dogs and humans alike. I fully endorse it.
@taishakuten_2206Ай бұрын
I love this character growth, Bruce I is seeing the bigger picture. Not just the pets, but also the children in the area. That is actually a good plan, start on the root of the problem. In my country, we have a lot of stray dogs and there are organizations giving the stray pets free neuter and spay to prevent penetration of dogs and cats leading to babies. Stray animals...find it hard to adapt to having homes, giving them an avenue to have a better life might be better for them. I hope chooqy meets you again
@BlackedOutMostlyАй бұрын
In the US, we call this TNR (trap - neuter - release). Colonies of stray animals only get bigger when nothing is done to slow the repopulation and the babies are born into poor conditions. The “strays” really are wild animals and they can’t all be integrated into a home. My neighbor feeds stray cats but doesn’t vaccinate or neuter them. So new litters are constantly being born just to get sick and die. 1 out of every 10 kittens makes it past the first few months. Feeding them without neutering just gives them a designated place to congregate to hookup lol. I think that’s a great idea and your heart for animals is beautiful.

Ok, let me share an idea. First, you spay the female dogs. Because, they will give birth to 5-6 puppies when they get pregnant. After spaying the female, you can neuter the male dogs. This will decrease their aggressive attitude. You need to spay the female puppy that you have at your house. You can do it when she is 5 months old. But you need to talk with a vet first. Also, about Chooky, he should be near your areas. He is looking for a female as he is in heat. After mating season ends, he will try to come back. Maybe he is lost. So, what you can do you can put some of his or your stuffs nearby. These stuffs must have your or his body smell in it. These will help him to locate your house. Good luck. I pray that he comes back and you become successful with your plan.
@jerseyannie1268Ай бұрын
This is a great idea. Start a Go Fund Me. Talk with veterinarians in your area to get their input/ideas. Speak with friends, neighbors, strangers who may be interested in helping in this endeavor. You probably aren’t the only person in Iraq who feels like this. You have a worldwide audience who can help fund this!

I've watched your videos for a bit now and wanted to comment, and since you're directly asking, I would be happy to help with this. 1) Chooqi: even though you found him relatively young, he was still most likely socialized as a wild dog from birth. Also, judging by his size, at least part of his breed is for guarding. There's 7 categories of dogs but for simplicity, classifying into three groups: i) herding and guarding, ii) hunting, iii) and toy dogs. Ones bred for guarding are going to be bigger dogs, more aggressive by nature, and more independent. Because Chooqi was male, was bred for guarding, and came from an environment of feral-ness, it would have taken a large investment of time to work with him to get him to respect and listen to you. It would have taken a balance of punishment and reward. Because of your big heart, this may have even been difficult for you. Even men that have domesticated wild wolves have said that female wolves will submit to the man in some ways but the male wolves never stop challenging the authority of the man. You were doing a good thing, but he was bound to challenge you. 2) this non-profit shelter you're talking about is a great idea. I understand the desire to let living creatures be free and also help them if they need it. I understand that you had this belief that castration is bad, even for animals, but considering the natural food chain of the dog, there's not many other options to sustain the dog population at a healthy level. They were bred for helping humans (hunting, herding, guarding, etc.) and not bred as food. There's not a lot of natural factors that help keep a dog's population at a sustainable level because they're not a hunted species. Therefore, this clinic where you spay/neuter stray, pet-type animals using best practices is an excellent idea. The use of vaccinations and medications also makes them safer for the society they co-habitate with, and of course feeding and offering water and some shelter are things any living being will always love to receive. God willing you will do great things.

Bruce first off, don't be so hard on yourself. We ALL see what you are doing, and YOU ARE making the world a better place. Something I want to tell you, is what you said in the video. "You can dog the streets out of the dog, but you can never take the dogs out of the dogs". You have to remember, that these are wild dogs. Animals kept for pets are usually Domesticated. There is a big difference between a pet that has been bred for hundreds of years, to be a pet, versus an undomesticated dog. I wanted to highlight what you said in the video, because I feel like you have come to a realization of Domesticated vs Non-Domesticated. Pets have been bred to be tamed, wild is wild, no matter what. Our interference with animals have created pets. In nature, imagine a deep, dense forest, or a large, vast desert. There is no-one, no man, women, or child out in the wilderness. Yet you see a wolf. You found a wolf Bruce. You named your wolf, "Chooqy bin Wolof", Wolof, son of Wolf. I agree with everything you said in the video, but always remember, be careful messing with the balance of nature!
@AshleekaaАй бұрын
@drake5557 Have these dogs always been strays, or were they pets at one point? I get what you're saying but they aren't really fully "wild", yeah they'll have behaviour issues, probably mostly to do with food, which they would need in order to survive out there, but I feel like dogs would be able to be trained, where as male wolfs would not. I could be wrong.
@XAE_A_XiiАй бұрын
You are a man with a HUGE HUGE heart, I hope you achieve what you want to do and I'm sure many will help you financially. I'm a dog owner myself, for me dogs are more than just dogs, before I had a dog I thought they are all programmed the same , they all like bones , they all like peanut butter, but how wrong I was, each has its own personality. And just like humans , most of them are peaceful but few will make a trouble, some out of fear and bad experience, and others are just vile.

Hello Bruce! I think it is very commendable of you to want to do something for these animals and your community after coming to the realization of this problem. I encourage you to continue to pursue this, as it is a wonderful thing to strive to do. Many places have rampant issues with stray animals, and many places have succeded in making this better by the exact method you speak of. Catch, spay/neuter and release programs do a great deal of good, for both the people and these wonderful animals as well. Do not be disheartened by Chooqi's escape, but use this as a learning experience and make sure to spay/neuter any future dogs that come into your possession! Here's also hoping your pup returns safely home. Much love from Canada! 🇨🇦

Don’t know if you’d read this but here goes - I think it’s a really good plan! Some of the charitable organisations here have a program called Trap Neuter Release (TNR) - ie they trap the stray dogs to neuter/spay them and then release them where they were from. Mostly this is because not all shelters have the space to do so and they will feed them whenever they can (they also have volunteer feeders around certain areas so it’s not so tedious for just the shelter alone). It’s nice that you want to provide a place for the dogs and if they wish to go, they can freely do so. With regards to Chooqy, so sorry to hear that he ran away and did not come back. I think dogs will be dogs - they are curious creatures. My dogs will attempt to dash out of the door if they could, even though we take care of them since they were puppies (and some like Chooqy, found on the roadside, abandoned and hungry). When they do, we either find them lost, wandering in the streets or we don’t ever find them. It’s really sad but I guess we just have to accept that curiosity is in their nature and the sight/smells outside definitely seems like an “adventure” to them. I’m sure it’s not that they don’t love us and don’t think this is home, I trust that they do recognise this is home but they’re just curious. The beauty about dogs is that they seem to have a “carpe diem” mentality, ie “seize the day” and that’s why they’re so lovable cause they just live in the moment, although sometimes that just means them doing things they shouldn’t be doing. Hope you feel better soon! Sandralella seems to be so comfortable where she is, both of them are lucky to have come across someone like you 😊

He didn't leave you because he dislikes you. Dogs are just adventurous beings. I could nearly guarantee he is looking for you in his own way. And he wants to come home. But has been lost or killed. My neighbours dog got out from their fence a couple of years ago. 18 months later, he seen his dog in a dog park with a new family. The family seen the old photos of him and noticed the dog was clearly trying to get back to his owner and gave him back to my neighbour. That dog is now glued to it's owner. I’m sure some of those stray dogs were members of his family even if his mother abandoned him - like his brothers and sisters and at the end of the day, dogs are pack animals. Bruce, suggestion: 1. Many hands work faster than one hand. You may need to look or ask around if there is a community that save stray cats and dogs. If not, maybe you can start one. 2. Focus one thing at a time, for now work on getting vaccinations or neuter for the adult dogs. Set a reasonable number of dogs you can do it. Tag them if you want like make them wear a loose string on neck. Then you can move on to feeding them. Then next move to saving puppies. 3. Shelter sounds expensive, you need constant income stream and I've seen many struggling to maintain it. How about going around as group feeding dogs seen in sight? If you still prefer shelter, then only prioritise the puppies or injured ones. Too many adult dogs and cats can cause fights among them. Once puppies are adult or want to leave, let them go.
@mihaelagheorghe1743Ай бұрын
I come from a country with lots of strays also. After 20 years of rescueing animals off the streets and giving them for adoption, I can tell you one thing: Focusing on rescue instead of prevention is a waste of resources and energy. The time and money it takes to save and raise one dog that will live in the shelter maybe for the rest of its life can be invested into neutering campaigns that on the long term will prevent the suffering of thousands of animals that are not being born. So catch, neuter and release is the logical solution in this case. Good luck!

I adopted one like that. He was an escape artist. I was spending all my time searching the neighborhood for him & always found him with a bunch of strays. As soon as I called to him or chased after him he would run! One day I was chasing him down the sidewalk, there was a man coming toward me, & I yelled out, "Stop that dog!". He hesitated, but he did as I asked. (Rover was a small guy, so he didn't feel too intimidated) I carried Rover back home again, & I discovered a hole dug under the backyard fence 4 hours later. One day, I just had to give up. Some dogs just cannot be contained. Their heart belongs to the free wanderers of the world.

Welcome to the world of rescue Bruce. All will be special dogs and then you'll have the really special dogs. You'll get attached. There's no way to stop it. Learn what's right for you to help these dogs that need you. Then teach others how to properly care for street dogs without harming them. You'll make one heck of a team if you lead them and teach them. I've been in rescue for just over 25 years. If you need help with something, reach out to me. Every stray is worth saving!

Shelter is good. To make it work properly, you should open it as a non-profit org. That way you’ll get tax break and you can fundraise for the org. Fund raising will be important coz the costs can multiply when you talk strays. As a non-profit you can also get some volunteers to help out.

Rescuing will be heartbreaking but rewarding. Chooqy probably went after a lady. Neutering and vax is good. It will stop so many puppies being born into the life. Feeding and keeping an eye on the packs medical condition wd be great. Do what u can. The dogs don't all want to live on the street. Your wife of Choiqy loks happy in her new life.

Spay and Neuter surgeries keep them from roaming ~ period!

Good idea brother, a safe place for a meal and vet care. Maybe you can find some people to team up with. I hope Chooqy will be good and visit his dad someday!!

In Bulgaria the state have this situation. The state take the puppy,tagged them whit a plastic strip on the ear,give them vaccination,antirabbies etc......and release them free...all the population knows and all the old people give them food and love and at first I was thinking that it's so sad to release thepuppy on the street,but after a month travel around all Bulgaria Ichange my mind becauseI see that the dog was so much happy free!! I even try to take some for adopt but NO ONE want to come whit me!! Just somerandom love and pet and return to his pack!! I think youhave a good point bro ❤❤❤❤

I love you so much !!! You make me laugh on this sad day. I live in Canada, and I own a female Cane Corso. She protects me against the bad guys out there. 😊😂Keep helping the puppies! I always said I wanna sanctuary with lots of land so I can take dogs but nobody wants. We don’t really have as big of a problem in Canada with stray dogs where I live.
