Dear Mr JWW, in the good old days, flatting and polishing to remove "all" the orange peel used to be a part of the painting process. So essentially all new cars are supplied with the paintwork half done, and the customer has to take it to someone like yourself or Topaz and have the job finished.

I heard they measure the paint coating with frequency combs; those are multiple lasers calibrated to an atomic clock in one unit. You can measure the difference in gravity from the ground to the top of your head with those lasers. That said, the coating process must be a beauty. Now you don't wonder why the paint job is good. German over-engineering. :) Go physics.

Porsche knows jww well enough to know it would be smart to send him a car with high quality paint from factory. ;) youre a free advert for them and this will stick in peoples heads. Not saying porsche has normally subpar paint jobs or anything just saying specifically in this case clearly they know whats good.

PPf bit of a gimmic. Real money spinner. After a while dirt will trap in the edges and it will discolour. Also could peel off the paint underneath after a few years.

You’ve had a bad PPF job. We extend edges and tuck them under panels so there are no edges for dirt to get under.

Beautiful car. It's a shame about the cheap plastic intakes in the arches at the rear of the car though. These would look much better if they were the same material/colour as the paintwork. Or perhaps alternatively, carbon fibre?

Detailer here. German paint is generally quite good. Lexus also do excellent paintwork especially there tri coat colors.

I was not a Porsche 911 fan till this very model. It's the headlights I never liked. Heritage I know. What can I say, I also hate the horseshoe grille on Bugatti's. Huge 911 slant nose fan though. This new 911. WOW. Just WOW all around. Even the headlights work for me so they just bent all the right lines on this one. That paint color is gorgeous! Add a little red to the interior and yep. Everyday supercar ready for whatever you want to through at it. Amazing car.

I thought Porsche doesn’t allow shops to apply PPF to their headlights. When I was getting quotes from different shops for my 992, they all said they couldn’t wrap the headlights because Porsche doesn’t allow it. Idk if its a warranty thing or what

What a load of overhyped BS. The difference between a dirty car and a clean car is clearly noticeable with a decent wash. However, paying ££££ for a ~5% improvement that most people will not notice is madness. Just drive the bloody thing and enjoy it. After 2-3 years just buy a new one. A beautiful car regardless.

Yes, that's one approach. And you think the future buyer of a used Turbo S won't notice the paint? I'd say that statement is madness. And why buy a new one in 2-3 years when this is someone's dream car? When I buy something of high value, I expect to get my money's worth. Be it a car, subwoofer, or bicycle, I appreciate quality and want to get lots out of it. (Which explains why I'm still riding 20 year old bikes - they still work great.) I HATE the "throwaway" approach to life. Talk about carbon footprint! And we humans wonder why we're facing such climate challenges! Back to the paint... the desire is to "lock in" the nice paint while you have the chance. On a car of this cost, the few thousands aren't that much by comparison. Plus, the idea is to protect it while it's pristine, giving the finish a long life looking beautiful, with ceramic coating making future washing even easier and effective. It should pay for itself to some degree at resale. A person buying used who sees $8,000 invoice for paint work will know he's buying a Turbo S that was well loved and cared for.

Great video and awesome car. Quick question, what are you using for PPF for the LED lens units? I am taking delivery of a GT4 soon and my detailer says that he cannot PPF the lens unit because he has seen it can damage the lens if the PPF is ever removed. He mentioned the lens could be, for lack of a better word, delaminated. Given the cost to replace these LED lens units I want to find a solution to protect them.

I've a deposit down on a new Turbo S, expected delivery mid 2021. Mine will be in GT Silver. I understand the need for this level of detailing on dark coloured cars as they show everything but I'm putting that money into functional/performance options on the car itself. Despite the car being v.expensive, I'm not precious enough to go full hog on detailing and ppf. I have ticked the 'Protective foil' option from Porsche which should protect the front for me and coupled with the Silver colour, I am hoping that I've done enough.

It's an error to PPF modern Porsche headlights. They have their own factory applied coating which is damaged irreparably with PPF. PPF is brilliant for a lot of things. But not for Porsche headlights...

Hi James, I know you don’t have this car anymore but, did you order it with PASM or S PASM. I finally got to properly test one of these last week (thank you Porsche experience silverstone!) it had S PASM. Initially, I didn’t think it rode too harsh (felt like it was about 20% stiffer than a Roma)….then we hit a particularly crumby road near silverstone and it absolutely lost its composure! If I pull the trigger on one of these, it’s the one option I can’t decide to have / not have. I’d love some feedback if you’ve driven both setups. Thanks👍

Terrible orange peel for a car of that price and spec. That car deserves wet sanding, which i believe Bentley do in factory. That finish is similar to that of a 20k VW Golf. But still a beautiful car

I've noticed that the dirt nibs used to be down to 5 microns I could look into the peel and then look into the peel of the peel. At that point I can see 5 microns One Dodge Charger I looked at it had thousands of dirt nibs. If you didn't know what to look at. You would never know. Today's cars have 10-15 microns even in Audi's or Volvos. I would get my ass chewed if I missed nibs like that. I use 1500 grit, 3000grit, 5000 grit and finally 8000 grit. I recommend System 51 polish. You don't need anything except wax or glaze.

I always wonder about the detail on the edges of panels like doors, filler cap flap, , boot etc, and what of the door sills/frames and pillars...? Surely they need the same attention...other wise when ever you open a door - less than perfect paint is stareing at you....???

Mr J - This 911 Turbo S is perfect aside from one somewhat significant detail. Everything and I mean EVERYTHING is perfect except for those tailpipes. I'm such a huge fan of the quad "trapezoid" pipes and make the car look so mean. Aside from that this is my dream car and the one car I'd buy if I could get any ONE. You sound like the Porsche employee who gave us our tour of the Zuffenhausen factory. It was hilarious hearing him disparage the "cars priced as much as a nice flat" as he showed us around. Then again, it was nice to hear some true honesty in today's world! But knowing his paychecks were coming from people spending such high amounts on cars while he criticized their high prices was amusing. Anyone spending $200k on a car has enough money "to waste" on high-end paint correction and protection.
