Sadly, I'm not surprised by this. I own a 2022 992, which has been a total nightmare since I first sat on it: door panel noises, roof noises, dashboard rattles, power windows failing, seatbelt warning going off all the time, suspension replaced, and, worst of all, an unsolvable and irritating exhaust vibration noise in low revs which has driven me insane and taken away the joy in driving the car (for which Porsche told my dealer " if it isn't fixable, tell the customer it's normal"). Who would imagine that for a 911 at €160k? It's not news to any Porsche enthusiast that the company is heading down the same path as Boeing: betting on low-quality build and cheap materials while borrowing on the brand's equity to sell at sky-high prices. It's surprising that, for a company that has flirted with bankruptcy twice in the last 30 years, it can take its eyes away from consumer experience and feedback and focus on minimizing operational costs while maximizing share price. I've owned a few different Porsches by now and can attest to two things: the make isn't the same, and it's getting vertiginously worse quickly. Unfortunately (or not), I can now "relax" and accept that my desire to buy new Posches is gone. My love for the brand will remain true to a part of the company's history where the things they used to make were the true definition of precise German engineering: driver-focused, down-to-earth, simple, and great.

Luke, thank you for that honest review (even if it was cut short)! You mentioned the things that are truly interesting for potential buyers. I am not sure about the 992.2 but e.g. in the former Panamera model with the memory pack you could actually save in your personal settings what driving aids would be turned on and which ones would be left off; that way you wouldn't have to switch the aids off every time you started the car. And I agree 100% with you, a babysitting 911 (or any sportscar) is an absolute no-go! Same like those loveless start button and digital tachometer. And yes, the more electronics you put into a car and the more complex they get, the higher the chance is that bugs will have the car break down. Porsche will have to do better and maybe a step back would actually be a step forward.

Owned 992 gt3 pdk, had it for 3 months and had problems with front headlights, front lift and replaced front right wishbone AFTER 3 MONTHS! Returned it to dealer told them I want to sell the car, they gladly sold it for me. I could have gone somewhere else and sold it for more and maybe pocketed 20k, wanted to keep good relationship with them you never know if anything interesting in future comes out. But honestly the newer cars are quite dull, soulless even, facelifts don’t look newer anymore and you only see cost cutting methods with newer cars. I think sweet spot currently is 991.2 for a modern porsche, 997 beautiful as well but is getting quite old especially pre facelift

Can confirm (as others have) that it's an EU thing. My wife got a new Peugeot company car and while it's very nice inside and out, I've yet to figure out how to turn off the "Intelligent Speed Assist" (i.e. the annoying chime when you go 1kph over the limit.) If you think that's bad, check out the law that mandates an in-car camera to see if the driver is distracted, and the best of all - emissions regulations that will require Lambda == 1, which will make getting performance out of cars as we know them very difficult. Insert conspiracy theories here... 🙂

Thank you for your honest report! I was born in 1963, just like the 911. I'm not sure if the new digital world is right for sports cars, or if the pace of change is just too fast. The Porsche 911 is a car for enthusiasts, and you should never take away the feeling of sitting in a pure sports car. If that feeling becomes like sitting in an SUV, what’s left for the driver? For me I will stay with 911.2 model. And buy a preowned with less kilometers on it if I will change the car. I feel the prices of the preowned market will go up in the next years....

The price of a new base model Porsche with some options ticked will get you in a low KM 991 GT3 RS, a 992 GT3 or an SLS if that‘s what you‘re craving for (I am 😄). It‘s mind bending. 911 pricing and secondary market prices for fairly standard modern Porsches is weirdly high for some years now and you wonder who pays that. But when driving trhrough the roads of Zug, Schwyz or Zurich you realize there seem to be plenty of people willing to do so. PS you might be able to program the quick access diamond button on the steering wheel to turn off speed limit warning. Works on the 2024 cayenne if I‘m not mistaken.

The 992.1 Turbo S market for a 2023 or 2024 is still way above MSRP. Not sure if the 992.2 GTS or Turbo S will depreciate right off the lot like other cars but time will tell. I made a video on my channel saying that the reliability of the 992.2 would be atrocious. I meant it about the GTS and all of the other hybrid variants but I didn't expect that the Carrera would lead the way!!. The older 911s will just keep going up in price, the new fancy 992.2 would depreciate like a rock

Great cinematic shots, I really enjoy your videos. Thank you for pointing out, how annoying these electronic nannies are. There is a general anti car sentiment that is growing which is fueling a lot of these new laws. I must admit it makes me so frustrated, since cars do not pollut all that much. Moreover, the rise of new ideology that wants to ban cars in cities or make it very difficult for them to drive in a city or on Sundays is taking hold in our societies without having anything to do with better city planning. I mean how much space do pedestrians and cyclists need??? Should an inclusive Society allow all individual to enjoy their hobbies? Car people really need to speak up about this, and make it knows that we enjoy to drive for the sake of driving. This is the only way we could keep our hobby alive. Otherwise driving might be outlawed very soon with the rise of autonomous technology.

Hi Luke, pretty interesting video and your view not only on this 911 generation but also on todays cars. As someone who worked in the testing department in Weissach i see the mentioned points in different ways. First one is for sure the strong regulatory interventions from governments , especially the EU who forces Automakers to put stuff in the cars, which most of the customers are annoyed of such as the noise when you get over the speed limit or the lane control. Believe me nobody of the R&D colleagues likes to integrate this stuff in modern cars. You cant even imagine how many different regulations the R&D team has to deal with and it feels like the list of regulations is constantly rising. Second point is the shift to other markets. A lot of premium automakers sell the most cars in china and not in europe or the us, so they focus more and more on the needs of chinese customers which is infotainment, ADAS, electrification and so on. Of course no one of your audience which i assume consists mainly of car guys likes a start stop button or a digital gauge cluster on a 911 but people on the other side of the world do so. Different cultures have different requirements. Of course as a young engineering student i also miss the analog style and the roughness of sportscars a few years ago and if you ask me with every year there are less new cars that young people can dream of because the list of appealing cars gets shorter and shorter. But things in the automotive industry are changing faster than ever. Lets see what the future will bring. Greetings from Austria, love your content👋🏼

Thanks for an honest opinion. I am wondering why only Mercedes managed to put a shortcut for switching off this idiotic speed warning thing on top of their big tablet and driver's makes such as Porsche could not. They do researches and surveys their customers so they know what we would like from a driver's car, don't they?
@carswithluke2 ай бұрын
This is interesting, I now also heard they made it the law to be 3 click in to turn it off, the plot thickens 🤔
@iEnzoPL2 ай бұрын
@@carswithluke yes, it is a law but I’m not sure if it has to be some number of clicks. Look at Mercedes. Just one click on top of the screen. If I would to buy a 2024 car I think I’d code the system to remember my setting and loose the warranty for the infotainment system. It is a pains to hear the beeping all the time because in my country the speed limit recognition system is always wrong (speed limits are cancelled after every crossing which no system can understand).

For me the sweet spot is 991.2 just before the OPF. After that (and even more with the turbos in 992.2) the sound is just not there anymore, it's vaccum cleaner noise basically, and the electronics becomes a serious PITA as mentioned. GTS or GT3 or GT3 RS depending on your mood.
