G’day Tom, I would have marked the end with knurling so you know which end to punch it out when bearing replacement comes around. The knobs would look better and no need to find an Allen key. Cheers Peter

The knurled knobs will look much better than the allen screws. And most likely easier to use also.

The fewer tools needed to adjust the steady rest the better I think.

if you use angle grinder you can save more milling time and cost😜
