Great to see your test results GC - not sure why but you have to watch the playlist to see these prop test videos (as they are unlisted). Flew mine with a 6030 prop but changed in a 1407 2800kV and have a 6035 ready for the next test. I'll look to order in some of the 7x5 or wait for your next test prop you hinted at - the 5 pack came up as out of stock when I checked last on Amzn.

Thank You! My goal was to get the best performance with the stock power system. Hum....apparently KZbin can never get their stuff working right. The prop test video should not even show up in the playlist as I haven't released the video. Wow! The 5pk of props are already sold out....I'll see if I can find another source. I'm glad I already ordered mine ;-) See you in the Air!

Well done! I did the same spinner modification on my Volantex 750m P-51 six months ago when I decided I didn't want to spend any more money on 4 bladed props. Belly landings were starting to get way too expensive. 😆 I put a little piece of red electrical tape over opposing holes just to make it a little more aesthetically pleasing

I finally pulled the trigger on the A280. However I didn't stop there lol. You make it so darn easy with mulitiple videos of each rc planes your reviewing and have very good analysis from your test trials. After your thorough reviews iv purchased the Xk J3 Skylark Cub. The new Flybear Fx9706 and lastly the Wltoys XK A800. All on order and on delivery. Following your reviews made my purchases far more easy to make and i thank you tremendously for that. There's nothing more like purchasing something and then finding out it just doesn't work for you or it's a waste. Furthermore I had units that I purchased in the past that have given me some fits but have made positives with them shortly after with many of your in video adjustments. Keep up the wonderful work you're doing on your channel. It's by far one of the greatests rc channels on this network and there are a few but you my friend do your homework.A++++++++👍👌👊.

Does the propeller pop off in a crash like those 400mm warbirds?
@GroundControlRC

Hi Justin! No, this one does not pop off like those brushed motor micros. The Prop seems pretty durable as I accidentally ran mine into the dirt bank full of scrub at full throttle and it survived ;-) This has a spinner that attaches via a center screw and the prop is secured using a nut as the motor has a threaded shaft.

I just got my hands on one! Haven't got the chance to try it yet but am excited after watching your videos! BTW, do you think this plane can carry an Insta360 Go 2 camera, maybe somewhere behind the canopy? The camera is only about 1oz or 26g. And pardon me if I've missed it, but did you need to cut any foam to fit those better batteries, especially the GNBs?
@GroundControlRC
@GroundControlRC Жыл бұрын
I'm glad you got one as it's such a great little Warbird. I didn't have to cut any foam and the batteries fit perfectly. Before I cut any foam to install a camera I'd just add that much additional weight where you'd like to install the camera and see how it carries the additional weight. That's what I do to make sure they can carry it. You're going to have a blast with this plane ;-) See you in the Air!

Thanks for the help, making sure the trim is 0'd on the cheap XK tx to get my plane up! So much fun that never gets old. So the 7x5, 2 vein is the cheapest but most effective upgrade? Got a 2,200KV brushless motor & corresponding ESC that I got dirt cheap(40 amp I think). Would it be compatible or complementary with this plane & circuit board? I don't know what battery would be best for a high KV and control sys. Thanks again brother for the very in depth description and education. Also do you use a universal Tx? Which ones have a good cost:benefits ratio? I know a lot of people dig expo rates on the controls, or for more advanced planes with retracts, canopy opening, flaps, split flaps, lighting, etc . There seems to be a gigantic leap between the $150 range up into the 10-12 channel sys with a $500 cost differential. I just want something that doesn't cost 2x the cost of my fleet of 13 crafts. Keeping track of all those radios is too cumbersome and a headache. any input would be appreciated! Cheers

No Worries! Yes, the easiest, cheapest way to get better performance is just changing the prop to this APC Style 7x5 thin electric 2-blade prop. I thought about converting to 3S on down the road but I think just a bit larger motor with additional torque would work just fine for a 2S setup with even more power. I've provided links to everything in the video show notes after testing additional props. Excellent Video Series as Always. quick question, on average, with this prop, at how much throttle did you stick during the flight? 60%, 80%?
@GroundControlRC
@GroundControlRC 3 ай бұрын
Hum...with the 7x5 Prop on 2S, given I hand launch the plane at 60% Throttle. You should be able to just cruise around at 50% Throttle. I perform mixed mode flights cruising around part of the time and full throttle for short burst performing aerobatics...I would guess my average throttle for an entire flight to be between 70%-75% Throttle.

@@GroundControlRC hello there again :). Just got the 7x5 propeller and some 550 mAh batteries. just requesting more info on how to install the new prop on the stock motor. I went by adding 3 spacers between the prop and the motor, and another thicker spacer between the prop and the nut (since I bought several Prop sets, used those spacers). it seems to be fixed ok on the motor, but was just wondering if you used a different method. any input would be greatly appreciated.
@GroundControlRC

@@sagacyberdemon I just used 1 spacer behind the prop and 1 spacer in front of the prop. As long as you can secure the prop on the shaft I don't think it matters. You may have to modify the spinner a bit more than I did since the prop will be higher on the motor shaft. I also balance all my props before I install them.

Just flew ours tonight with your recommended 7 x 5 prop and man what a difference! One question. The 2-blade props have circular center holes but the motor shaft has flats on it (the 4-blade keys into these). I added a washer and was able to snug it one pretty well without the spinner, but a bit concerned about it staying secure long-term . Did you do anything special to the 2-blade prop for a more secure attachment?
@GroundControlRC

Hi Steve! Yes, much better with that 7x5 Prop. I didn't do anything special mounting the prop. I just used a couple of spacers and tightened it down. I've got approx. 30 flights with that prop and no issues.

I provided links to this prop that include a set of spacers. I use 1 space behind and 1 spacer in front of the prop. The flat part of the shaft doesn't matter it's the diameter of the shaft that's important. So just mount it like a standard prop.

Did you try a 6x5 prop as well? As far performance, are you talking about flight time or power? Does the 90C battery or the other upgraded battery increase flight time or just power? I'm confused because the stock battery has a high MAH at 650Mah. Sorry I'm a beginner still and not familiar with what the C rating is. Thanks-
@GroundControlRC
@GroundControlRC 4 ай бұрын
I tested a few props but I'm can't remember if one was a 6x5. When I talk about performance I'm talking about power. Think of the MAH of a LIPO as the gas tank in a car. Think of the "C-Rating" of a LIPO as the horse power of the car's engine. The higher the C-Rating of the LIPO the more amps it can provide to the electric motor. You want to make sure the LIPO you use can provide the amps required by the Motor and Prop.
@asdaven1
@asdaven1 4 ай бұрын
@GroundControlRC Thanks for the explanation- So would any of these setups be better for flight time? Between using the different batteries and the different 2 bladed props? I don't have a huge area to fly in so don't need to get it going too fast so I'm shooting more for maximizing flight time. Coming from the Drone/Quadcopter realm, the stock prop probably has more drag than a 2 bladed propeller to spin. Generally at least with drones, 2 and 3 blade propellers seem to be the sweet spot. It's a catch 22 and at some point it's the law of diminishing returns as far as drag vs higher rpms of a 2 bladed prop. As far as the battery , is the C rating similar to "watts"? Because I get mixed up because there's also volts. I know in some quads, planes, helis, etc if it can handle it you can put in a higher voltage battery with an additional cell and several additional cells and you get more performance and "horsepower". I know if you compare a tank full of water and a pipe that drains it. Amps is how much water flows through the pipe. Volts is how fast the water is flowing through the pipe out of the tank. So is the C rating basically how fast the tank is capable of emptying out of the pipe? Concerning flight time. I think Fullymax makes a 750mah (still at 20c) for another aircraft that ive heard people have used successfully in this plane. I wonder if that would be the best bet for max flight time?
@GroundControlRC
@GroundControlRC 4 ай бұрын
@@asdaven1 Of all the props I tested the stock prop required the fewest amps and therefore would provide the most flight time. I believe the stock prop is a 6x3x4 prop. You might try a 6x3x3 prop. It may provide enough thrust and provide more flight time.
@asdaven1
@asdaven1 4 ай бұрын
@GroundControlRC True but if flying in a smaller area where you can't go too fast....you might only be using half throttle on the more powerful prop whereas full throttle on the stock prop. I notice in the video that full throttle was where the amp draw varied the most compared to partial throttle. Would the stock battery give the most flight time or the battery you were recommending? And have you heard of people using the 750 mah version of the Fullymax Stock battery? I think the 750mah one is for a fpv drone or helicopter but same shape maybe just slightly longer than the 650mah one.
@GroundControlRC
@GroundControlRC 4 ай бұрын
@@asdaven1 If you're looking for the most flight time and not power I'd go with the largest mah LIPO assuming you can get the CG. The more throttle the more amps needed from the LIPO. With power systems you have to make sure the LIPO and the ESC can handle the amount of amps the Motor and Prop require otherwise you can damage the battery and/or the ESC. Also, not all LIPOs are the same quality.
