Outstanding! Guess the only question I have left is, have you flown it on 3S? I'd definitively like to know, as I've got a draw full of 3S Lipos that would fit this flyer, & would be the icing on this cake! I was already considering buying the parts, a UMX Voodoo board, & linear servos, for that reason alone. As always, much thanks for the content & commitment 👍

Thank You Much! I don't plan on a 3S setup as the performance on 2S is great and it keeps it light. I would replace the stock ESC before using a 3S as it's only a 10A ESC at best. I would say on 3S you'd have unlimited vertical with the right prop ;-) See you in the Air!

You may need to program your throttle stick with the ESC. If you're getting aileron, elevator, and rudder working you're binding up to the receiver but it sounds like it's not seeing the range of the throttle stick.

@@coloradofotomatt Aren't the assembly instructions awful? It's not you, it's them lol. Mine arrived yesterday and I had to watch several videos before "where" to plug all that wiring in made sense because everyone skips that part! The good news is it's actually very easy and straightforward to explain. There's only one 3 prong connection, and it goes in to the 3 prong port right beside the other connection that's already plugged in on the side of the double servos for the ailerons. The very first page of the manual shows a picture of the servos and where this 3 prong aileron connection goes. Gently move the servo arm out of the way to make it easier to access this port, and make sure the wire clears the servo arm after its returned to its normal position. All of the remaining wires are the same 2 prong connections, and all of them are just the lights. They all get plugged in to that multiport rectangular board that already has one connection plugged in on opposite corners. Plug all the remaining two prong connections into that board, it doesn't matter where or in what order, and you'll have an extra port left unused. Tweezers and a very small screwdriver head really helps, and you have to keep the wing close to the fuselage because these wires don't have a lot of slack. It took me about 15 minutes or so to gently and carefully plug them all in. After all the wires are plugged in only 5 screws are required to complete the build but its confusing "what" screws to use because they give you several extra screws you don't need.The two longest black screws are used to secure the wing and tail assembly, use one of the small black allen head screws for the propeller nose cone, and two small screws to secure both bombs. You'll have several screws left over, no worries. Hope this helped if you're still stuck and I'm happy to answer any other questions you may have.

I just got this plane but the ailerons don't move very much. Not even in duel rates. And when I give it a little throttle the elevator moves down all by it's self. Do you know what could be the issue? I'm not going to try and fly it like this.
@GroundControlRC
@GroundControlRC 4 ай бұрын
I haven't used the Stock TX for a very long time but if I remember correctly it has a switch for high rates and low rates. Much more movement on high rates. I'd say when you initiated throttle that initialized the gyro which I'm guessing is why the elevator moved down. Did you calibrate the gyro with the plane on it's wheels? I always recommend calibrating the gyro before the 1st flight. Test the modes and make sure everything is correcting in the proper direction. Switch to 3D Mode and you will notice more movement on the control surfaces. You may have to adjust the linkages to get the amount of control surface movement you want, I always do. In fully stabilized mode you're not going to have a lot of control surface movement.

I've had some transmission / motor issues with my 400mm warbirds lately and you're the first person I've heard mention that they aren't likely to hold up after a while. Can you tell me why that is? Also, is there any issue getting the propellers you recommended to fit right? The hole looks like a perfect circle where as the stock propellers have more of an oval shaped hole.
@GroundControlRC
@GroundControlRC 11 ай бұрын
Yes, the motor has a metal gear on the shaft that meshes with a plastic gear and that wears out over time. You will also have some pretty good bumps with the prop that can damage the shaft and gears. Brushed Motors also wear out. I stated in one of the videos that you should make sure to get the pack of spacers with the prop. I used a couple of spacers on mine to fit the prop nicely.

Thanks for all of the awesome vids. Couple questions if you don't mind? 1) Are the stock props quite flexible and forgiving that they won't break easily in crashes? 2) Have you had any crashes with this plane, and how much (and what kind) of damage did it take? 3) You mentioned in the video that if someone asked you right now which brushless warbird for a beginner, this would be your first answer. But...what if we take the warbird part out of the picture, and limit the price to under $130? So in other words, what brushless 4-channel EPP plane under $130 would you recommend (whether warbird or trainer or any style)? Thank you!!!
@GroundControlRC
@GroundControlRC Жыл бұрын
Thank You Steve! The stock prop is quite flexible and I would think quite durable. I haven't had a crash with it yet but in one of my 1st flights, after landing, I accidentally bumped the throttle switch and ran it into the bank at a pretty good clip with no damage and no broken prop! It passed my durability test ;-) I don't know of another plane that's 4CH, Brushless, and sub-250g for less than $130 US. Even the Arrows Pioneer cost quite a bit more. You might find one that's made of EPS foam for less but I won't touch EPS foam as it's not durable as all.

@@GroundControlRC Well, there are some.... 1) Flying Fish is still available for only like $110 or so. Was there a reason you didn't mention this one? 2) XK A900 is around $100. (I'D LOVE LOVE LOVE IT IF YOU'D REVIEW THIS ONE!!) 3) XK J3 Piper Cub is brushless, EPP, 4-channel, and under $130...but I think enough people have complained about poor flight characteristics and durability issues (parts other than the foam) that this one is off the table. So what about 1) and 2) above, and are you sure there's nothing else we're forgetting with these criteria?

@@SteveGergetz Hi Steve! I thought you were referring to beginner planes, as I was, so I didn't mention the flying fish as it's PNF with no gyro and no RX. I can only recommend the planes I've flown and I didn't recommend the XK J3 Cub after my review. Limiting the choices to $130 or less really cuts down the number of great flying planes. Hey man what is the esc amperage? Can a 3s be run in it?
@GroundControlRC
@GroundControlRC Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, the ESC is not labeled. Some folks have posted that it is a 10A ESC and should be rated for 3S but mine runs pretty warm on 2S with the 7x5 Prop. I would probably put a larger ESC in it for 3S just to be safe.

Man i had thought I had ordered the rtf but it’s a pnp, for $125, it’s already ordered from banggood. I looked online I can’t find one now in rtf. I checked KZbin and figured they stopped making it. Then found this video, glad it’s good plane! But I’m a newbie to air RC hope I can get it flying

Hum.....I've only seen it in a RTF version. Are you sure you didn't order the Volantex P51D 750mm PNF? It's currently priced at $125.99 at Banggood. I have the Volantex P51D 750mm PNF and it's a fantastic plane but not a beginner plane. This one is great as a beginner Warbird and you won't have any problems flying this one. See you in the Air!

Omg yes that’s exactly what I did, i just ordered it yesterday and immediately thought I had ordered that wrong one. So… I did want the larger wing span. But thought it was rtf . Also I have the Eflight umx turbo evo coming as my first plane after the 400mm guys

You can fly this plane on 3s battery with stock esc. Spektrum 300mAh 3S 11.1v 30C LiPo Battery: JST Connector. Really wakes this plane up! Enjoy!

Thanks! I've read some post of 3S flights. I may have to test that with a smaller prop. Do you know how many amps you're pulling and what prop are you using?
@jhilliard280
@jhilliard280 Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately not sure how many amps, though haven’t had any issues so far and just to be sure, I use the the stock prop though cut off two blades. Though I’m sure there are alternatives with smaller props too . I also made a small hole as an air vent to keep her cool. Next step is trying to figure out how I can fly her on my Spektrum nx6. Love this thing! It looks incredible with a finishing coat of poly coating too.

Is it as easy as plugging the battery you mentioned without any other electrical component?? And this hasn’t burnt out your esc yet??

This is a great bird I have one myself, only issue I have is the esc has an electrical smell to it after only one flight, I'm going to replace it. I was going to stick with the original esc replacement apparently they are more robust, are there any higher amp esc that you would recommend that would be suitable for the 280 ?? Great videos you've put out on it so far btw 👍🏼

Thank You Michael! I would check how hot the ESC is getting after flight. Mine gets pretty warm flying hard with the 7x5 Prop and I've put approx. 50 flights on it so far. I haven't looked into a replacement ESC and someone stated the ESC is putting full 2S voltage to the board. I will have to test and verify the voltage output of the ESC and see if the board works fine with a standard 5v BEC. If it works well with 5v input to the board, I like the HobbyWing ESCs and would probably put a 12A in it. s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_AV9Nyd

@@GroundControlRC thanks for the information I will definitely check temp after flight and will run it until it burns out more than likely ha ha, I will get the 12 amp, is 20 amp too heavy you think?

@@michaelhoward4402 I will definitely run mine until it burns out ;-) I haven't checked the weight and size difference between the 12A and 20A. Usually it's significant but you never know. I've had 20A and 30A ESCs that were nearly identical in size and weight.

So you running original battery on this or you using a bigger 2s?
@GroundControlRC

After switching out the stock prop to a 7x5 Prop I've been running with a slightly lower capacity but much higher "C" rated LIPO. They provide all the needed power with the more aggressive prop and approx. the same amount of flight time. I Like the weight and power of the GNB 2S 550mah 90C LIPO but it does come with an XT30 connector so I also use an XT30 to JST Adapter. 3pcs XT30 / XT-30 Male to JST Connector Adapter(C93-3) amzn.to/3IBPomY 4pcs GNB 550mah 2S LiPo Battery 90C 180C with XT30 Connector amzn.to/41GbMT1
