1. Keep their world small 2. Limit access in home with baby gates and crates (too much freedom is overstimulating) 3. Give the puppy room to be alone so they know nothing bad will happen when you leave. 4. Three things to focus on first day : calm intentional play (pay attention to how they play), crate normalization, frequent potty breaks (every hour). 5. Pick 3 toys for the first week - hard, soft, ball - see what they like. Play one toy at a time. 6. Basic obedience - short and positive reinforcements 7. Touch ALL over (not too much at first) 8. First 3-4 weeks hand feed the puppy every meal if possible. Ask them to do different things (wait for them to calm) !!! Hold food under thumb and release it when they only use tongue. 9. No food or water 2-3 hours before bed. No naps for the puppy. 10. If you have children, have kids watch the first few days to learn proper touch and play.

@@jasmynyvonne562 I can say that it's true that you're going to be spending more time with your puppy than your own desires. What I usually do is spend time with the puppy while I have a show or youtube on the TV. I'm spending time with the puppy and having fun. Rachel, we’ve had our 11-week-old lab puppy for a week now. It isn’t our first dog, but definitely our best experience thanks to your tips: proactive house training; feeding by hand (he knows pay attention, sit, down and wait for it....down back to sit! ) He sits at the door now like his housemate without being asked. We purchased a version of the playpen you recommended as well and it is great when I have to do email, personal finance stuff or cook dinner. It’s a really great lower bookshelf barrier when folded up! Oh those books are tasty. He already sleeps quietly in his crate and made it 4 hours without a break last night. We are still working on nipping and mouthiness. Thank you!!!! Thank you!!!!!

1. Keep their world small 2. Use babygates/playpens/crates to limit access in the home to avoid potty accidents 3. Get them used to you not always being around by leaving them alone in short intervals to prevent sepanx 4. Crate-train them by playing inside and around their crate 5. Buy at least 3 toys to stimulate their minds, preferably toys that make a sound 6. Get them used to being touched to prevent issues down the road 7. Hand-feed the puppy every single meal for the first 3-4 weeks to stop puppy biting and start asking them to do tricks before giving them their meal. Optional: only release the kibble in your hand when the puppy uses their tongue instead of their teeth to try to gain access to the treat to encourage being gentle 8. Don’t give water 2-4 hours before bedtime to prevent accidents during the night 9. No naps at night so puppy sleeps thru the night 10. If you have kids, try letting them observe how to interact properly with the puppy first before playing Not completely accurate or complete, these are more like personal notes 💚

My puppy sometimes wines and/or barks, and sometimes he does not, and ends up going inside. It is never consistent. Mistakes happen on days he drinks more water than usual. We are usually on top of it for taking him outside most times, but this is before he even has a chance to make a mistake. We considered teaching the bell method, but I am hoping you could make some recommendations. Thanks!

Rachel I lost my beloved dog, Sadie a little over a year ago & finally ( she was poisoned by a jogger, of all people) was able to consider getting another dog without crying my eyes out, I was so sad and distraught I couldn't even watch a commercial with dogs without falling apart. I did & still do have a cat who mourned her not being home for a few months but our new dog looks like Sadie so much that I thoroughly believed God had intervened to help me get over my horrific mourning. I will sound prejudiced but Sadie was the sweetest dog I had ever had and the first not to die of old age. The problem is our cat, it's been 3 weeks & Sammy a male is still giving especially me a hard time. We had two other dogs he managed with fine but this sweet dog I named Sadie2 he just hisses at, runs away from and well it seems he wants me all to himself. I love cats & we've had him for 12 years now but I have fallen in love with Sadie2. As hard as it is to believe she's just as sweet as Sadie if not sweeter! What can I do about our cat? We have tried all you mentioned in your videos (except for prep prior to arrival) I thought our cat would be the least of our problems. After all he'd dealt well with 2 other dogs and he entered the house with a dog in the home. Can you help me my husband of 33 years keeps saying take the dog back! He is angry with Sadie when he says it but it hurts me to the point of tears. To be honest we have bo children & saying goodbye to him might be easier! PLEASE HELP in Md. Dee

The one thing I learned from my last puppy was DONT GET EXPENSIVE TOYS. They will destroy toys. But, they are just as happy chasing a sock tied in a knot or an empty water bottle. Those are a lot cheaper. Plus, you won’t have thrown money away. I had ordered so many stuffed toys who were destroyed in 5 minutes and cost $20+. Now, she is 7 years old and her rubber cube, 2 rubber piggies and socks she still plays with all the time.

He cried for the whole night and he did so for a few nights and my parents were a bit worried so we went back to the previous owner of the dog and got on more of his siblings and he never cried again. Turns out he was lonely. I really miss him, now we have perry, he's a really great dog a day very friendly though people are afraid of him because he tends to bark a lot.

I had the same problem I wanted one so bad and my mom was ok with getting one but my dad said no for around 5 years. This year he finally let me get one it was the hardest thing to convince him. It was my birthday gift and Christmas gift and I have to do all the work and stuff and he said that if I don’t do the work that we will return him and never get another one so I’ve always done all the work I’ve only had him for 6 weeks. but before I can tell you how to convince why doesn’t she want on once I know I can try to help you because most likely it was the same type of situation as me

I convinced my parents to get a golden doodle puppy (getting the baby November 14-20 hopefully, unless we would rather wait next litter but I’m confident we will like this pup) by making a presentation with 100 reasons why, when I would take care of the puppy and how, and I made a schedule. My parents at first 100o/o did not want a puppy because we already had 2 dog and a cat but I convinced them!

Ugh. We’ve had our two male GSDs now for 4 weeks. They are nine weeks old. What a nightmare and we’ve watched so many videos from many people and nothing is working. If it doesn’t get better, I don’t know what. Good luck to everyone!! Ugh 😩

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for your wonderful videos!!! I brought my 7 week old beagle puppy, Tucker, home 3 days ago. He's my first indoor puppy and I've been using a lot of your recommendations around potty and crate training, as well as interactive feeding and play. I'm amazed at how well he's doing, after just a few days! He loves his crate, he goes potty every time I take him out (every 90 min), and only a few accidents in the house so far. We're not doing commands yet, but he's doing pretty good with recall/come. Now, we're trying to work on him not jumping/chewing on my shoes when he gets to me. 😂😂😂 While it may take a little time, I feel confident that we'll get there. Again, thanks for all your wonderful tips on raising a puppy well. Can't wait to watch the next one! PS - As a possible video idea, I'd for love and suggestions you may have for selecting a good vet and ensuring a positive first trip to the vet experience!

Hey I’m 13 and I’m the main reason my fam is getting a dog. I have kept bugging and bugging my parents for a while now and I was wondering if I classify as a child and that I can’t interact with the dog when he comes. The dog will also sleep in my room and not my parents. Is that okay too?

Keeping them on leash and the leash attached to you (clip onto a belt loop, ect) is also a good way to make sure you have an eye on them if gating is to impractical/expensive for your situation.
