I would like to see this in action. Every single trainer out there sits and talks with a CALM puppy. I have never seen a video where they have a 9 week old puppy aka carpet shark coming at them during the video. Not saying this method doesn’t work but I’d like to see exactly how while the behavior you are speaking of is happening. Just sayin 😏

My buddy has a dog that acts super crazy whenever all us guys meet in the garage for our weekly BS session. I sit down and cross my leg up over my other leg so she can't put her paws or body up in my lap and I completely ignore her until she calms down. Once she's calm I say her name, tell her she's good and pet her. This has been over a year of this ritual and now she never jumps on me or acts like a crazy dog when I enter. She has completely figured me out because she's smart. She's acting according to my behavior instead of hers. People need to resist the urge to reward initial anxiety with yelling and anxiety. Great video.

My first week with my little golden doodle started off terrible. He kept me and my husband up ALL night. Literally all night. I was searching for anything to make this stop. I’m a nurse and my husband works full time/grad school. She helped me SO much. I kept her videos on all day while I was “working with him” and he is literally almost potty trained. He knows what to do, and if he makes an accident it’s always in the same spot and it’s OUR fault that he doesn’t get outside. He goes to the door. He is almost potty trained. Also sorta likes his crate. I’ve had him just a week. Like thank god!!!

I was recently (one week ago today) gifted with a little puppy.. this first week has been BUSY to say the least. I’ve read books for years (I have wonderfully behaved ‘grand dogs’).. and one of the books has been especially helpful. But finding this channel and watching Rachel not just training, but EXPLAINING everything, including the why this, and the why that of all the poor behavior. For instance, I’ve learned raising my voice hinders the training of biting. And this puppy is determined! She seems to know what it means when I say ‘no bite’ or constantly sway her with one of her toys..it’s only been a week, so I have hope. 😂 Today, we pretty much conquered sitting on demand..it shows her that jumping at me will not get her a place on my lap, but sitting first and calming down, will. We both have quite a ways to go, but I see promise. Thank you Rachel for all the good information.

Thankfully she turned out amazing because she’s a crazy smart husky. 8 years later my husband and I knew we were ready for another puppy and I spent weeks studying these videos and we picked up our sweet 8 week old goldendoodle puppy last week and EVERYTHING you teach has worked for us!! I’m so happy I feel like I am making up for my past mistakes and teaching our new puppy from the very beginning 💚. He has had only 1 accident in 5 days, is getting better at naps in crate and sleeps soundly in the kennel between us taking him out every 3 (now he goes 4 hours!) he can even sit and is getting way better about not chewing on furniture etc just in this small amount of time using this method. Thank you so much for spending your time teaching!

Hi, my name is Barbara. I have a shelter, dog and mini schnauzer who is living with me after his owner died, and to keep from going to the pound I plan on adopting him, but I have a question they say he has heartworm and he is on massive amounts of drugs, chemicals to be honest. He just finished his 30 day. Of antibiotics, and every month he gets to heartworm preventative, medication’s nex gard, and heart guard . And he is still now to start three injections supposedly to kill the adult Heartworms. Help I am not familiar with Heartworms and alternative treatments for them when a pet is infected I don’t feel comfortable giving him all these chemicals. And I’ve fallen in love with him. His name is Charlie. I’ve been watching your videos so I’ve learned a lot. I’m just questioning what I should do so I am writing you this text if you can share any. natural ways or products that you use on your pets to keep mosquitoes off of them, as well as are there any homeopathic/natural non-traditional ways to treat an animal with heartworm. Also, I question what does an atom with heartworm act like look like how can I really tell if he has heartworm? Is there a blood test? The main society has not provided me with any proof, but they’re treating him and told me he had heartworm. Please respond back as soon as possible. We are due any day now to start the injections and I’m very nervous about them. I recently lost my dachshund of 18 years and it was the hardest thing I had ever been through. I don’t know what he had but whatever it was, it was awful. I wondered if it was cushions and ask my vet she was a horrible vet. Anyway, I didn’t want anymore, but then Charlie came into my life and I wanna make his life pleasant and enjoyable and not subject him to all the things. I did my other dog thinking I was going to help him. If you have any suggestions, please send them back to me. Thank you.

I just got a puppy and after my roommate tried introducing them too soon (their older dog growled and nipped at my puppy, did not bite him) my puppy then started getting aggressive growling and biting more. I’m not sure if his aggression is due to that encounter. What can I do to make sure my puppy feels safe while we are rooming with the dog that has not been taught any manners? I rescued a puppy at 10 weeks old; she's now 6 months. She is very smart, sweet and usually obedient. Today, I was shoveling snow and she has never seen a snow shovel so as I was shoveling, she was barking and charging at the shovel as I pushed it. After a while, she randomly bit my calf. I yelled at her & immediately removed her behind a gate where she can see me. She knew she was in trouble. I think she reacted impulsively and was maybe over excited? When I brought her inside, I put her in her play pen cage with her toys. She knew she was in trouble; she immediately layed down, didn't cry or bark to get out like she usually does. What should I have done differently to teach her not to bite again? Is there anything I can do now-after the fact? I'm upset with her, she left a mark w/2 punctures. What should I do proactively to prevent it from happening again? How can I train her never to bite, even when playing?

I got my Cockapoo puppy back in November and he has been such a handful. I have a crate for him as well as a puppy pen. His biting and nipping is still a bit concerning. I redirect him almost every time. He has all kinds of toys that I can use for redirection. One of the big things is he will just randomly snap to bite at our faces so I have told everyone do not put your face down towards him but that is difficult when we have to pick him up. My poor husband has already had his lip bit several times. We have and still do redirection. We also put him in the pen for calm down time when we see he is way up there. I spend time working with him on exercises like he knows sit, stay, down, shake, roll over, go find, and leave it as well as take it and come. Right now recall is only working if I am rewarding him with treats. I have one of them snuffle mats and we do the go find with it almost daily. He does love to learn just the random snapping at faces is one big one that I just haven't gotten him to stop. I have tried so much. Then the next problem is when I have to put him into the pen for him to calm down it's like he knows it every time. Basically he has figured out what behaviors lead him to having to go to the pen so the next thing he does is run and run and run. No recall, no treats, nothing seems to work. Right now my downstairs is very open so baby gates won't work but I am moving to my first house in a week and boy oh boy am I going to have up baby gates. Hoping that helps with that. The last problem is he is extremely attached to me. It is great he loves me so much. I am a stay at home Mom so I am here all the time. I do everything with him so he is very use to me being here so when I go to go upstairs he throws a complete fit and he isn't so thrilled when I have to leave to go to the store with my husband or anything. He just has a complete melt down. I have practiced leaving the room and not coming back in until he is calmed down because I don't want to reinforce the behavior. You can give him any toy or treat and he just isn't having it so I am really unsure of how to help with that without making it worse. My husband works a lot so I am naturally just here but I don't want him feeling all stressed out when he can't be in a room with me or if I have to leave. Any advice would be great.

I've had my puppy over a week and have been carefully redirecting him to toys and puppy safe chewies each time he tried to nip me or chew something not for him. Rachel's advice isn't working. I don't know how Rachel can say puppy biting stopped in one day. I even tried the yip in pain thing she recommended. He seemed suprised, but still chews me like a corn cob the next day. Anyone else have succes in one day?

Our 11 wk puppy has been biting hard so we're training it by giving treats every time it licks with the word "kisses". When it approaches like it's going to pounce and bite we try to prompt with "kisses" and have a treat ready. Follow by playing with toy and learning "leave it". Our puppy seems to be doing better after guiding the behavior this way, but still can be a terror when getting tired or not getting it's way. Sometimes have to give him space or alone time.

My puppy she keeps whining when I leave her how do I stop that?
@Winnipig22 ай бұрын
Don't give her attention until she stops. They are so smart. She has trained you, if she whines she gets out.

I GOT A MALTESE FOR XMAS, HE WASN'T HUMANIZED. IN OTHER WORDS THEY DIDN'T HOLD THEM OR DO ANYTHING FOR THEM. THE FIRST WAY A PUPPY LEARNS TO PLAY WITH SIBLINGS IS BITING. SLOWLY BUT, SURELY HE IS GETTING THE IDEA. HE HAS A LOT OF TOYS. I AM ALSO POTTY TRAINING HIM. I FOUND HE LIKED IT WHEN I SAY TO HIM,"WHO'S MY GOOD BOY"? IN A DIFFERENT TONE, SO HE WAGS HIS TAIL AND LETS ME PET AND GIVE HIM LOVE. HE LEARNED IN A COUPLE OF DAYS TO SIT AND LAY. THEY LOVE TO LEARN. I STILL GOT AT FIRST A LOT OF BITES ON MY ARMS. I NOW HAVE HIM WHERE HE WILL PEE ON THE PAPER PAD AND SOMETIMES POOP. I PLAY WITH THE TOYS WITH HIM AND NOW HE ALSO STANDS UP. I TELL HIM WHEN HE COMES TO BITE TO SIT, OR I WILL SAY LAY DOWN. I WAS GIVEN HIM AT 2 AND A HALF MONTHS. I HAD A DOG THAT HAD BABIES AND THE PUPS WENT OUT WITH THE MOTHER, I NEVER HAD TO TRAIN THEM.

I agree with the carpet shark comment here. I have tried redirection many times and giving my little maltipoo a new toy, only for her to shred the fingers holding it! She seems to prefer my fingers to any toy, in spite of my screams of pain.
@Scouty20069 ай бұрын
Rachel, what if this does not work? We have an Ausiedoodle (9 and a half weeks) and he nips and bites EVERYTHING. Our clothes, our hands, our furniture, our carpet. We have tried the Re-direction method; however, he is not motivated by Toys. We re-direct with a toy, a Nylabone, food, and he just continues the behavior. We have tried the OW! method and this makes him more hyperactive. We have tried the walk away method, and he bites our bum and back of our clothes as we walk away. We try and play with a toy, but just proceeds to lunge and try and bite us. WHAT DO WE DO!!??
@madisona3907 Жыл бұрын
This sounds great, and I have been doing "redirection" consistently for 2 months and my cocker spaniel puppy will still try and chew on me, my clothes, the table cloth ANYTHING that fits on her mouth.... she goes for it. She is exhausting. I only have the energy to work with her for an hour at a time. 😢

my dog jumps and bites ALL THE TIME even my grandparents who have had dogs all their lives said she was one of the worst biting cases they've seen. She's 6 months but she bites you any chance she gets.

I can totally relate to this. Our 6 month Golden is doing the same. It’s so disheartening when I’ve worked so hard with her!

It can be tough and it’s harder as they get older if it continues but I believe in you!

Remember at ~6 months old puppies can regress! Just stick with it and of course work with a local trainer if you need more help❤️❤️

Hi Rachel thanks for the video 😊 I was wondering if you can do a video on how to get my 1 yr old pup to get over the fear of boxes, trash cans when on walks, swimming,crates,and introducing new things to them Thank you so much!!!

Great video! Any advice for when your puppy won’t go to the toy? My puppy gets in this laser focused mode where people’s skin / face /clothes is the only thing he wants to aggressively bite and no distractions help. I have tried toys and other stuff and he won’t ever take the bait. He just continues to jump and bite whoever it is he’s biting really hard.
@AnitaLauren3 жыл бұрын
Also, if one tries to turn around he still keeps nipping at their shirt / hair / ankles and doesn’t stop even if you are ignoring him or showing him a toy on the other side :(

My mini schnauzer does the same thing. He gets very angry when I redirect him and starts to attack me and my 4 year old aggressively. I've been feeling helpess. Has it changed for your dog?
@Anita_Lauren2 жыл бұрын
@@ehmnehm7599 Hi, yes it has. The only thing that has worked for us so far is a prong collar and giving him a strong correction when he bites someone. He no longer nips at us for fun. We're still working on it, but it's gotten significantly better. There's a lot of videos online that can show you how to use a prong collar if you want to go that route. Hope that helps!

Gosh I hope I saw this sooner! I just got my shih-poo puppy last week and he’s my first ever puppy. I watched vids but I still keep on spoiling him and that includes me enduring his bites and nips but I think he’s going way too far bc my hands/arms are literally so red from all of it. I’m troubled and will definitely try this tomorrow!^^

My now passed away puppy NEVER bit us!!! But my new puppy constantly bites us and shows little affection!! It’s making us all really depressed and stressed!!! I’m at my wits end! His biting is becoming more and more aggressive!! 😭 so when your pup chomps at you and you’re in pain, you can’t scream!!! 🤣🤣good luck! Oh and good luck catching them…I hope you’ve got nothing planned for the next six months, like eating or bathing!!!
