I really want to build my own RPi tablet, but the RasPad and similar are just way to thick. The biggest issue is finding a display, which has a Pixel per square inch (and preferably a 4:3 or 8:5 aspect ratio). My aim is to use a CM4, CM5 or other compatible boards, a thin LiPo and a High PPI DSI display to get it into a iPad sized shell. There are no (Fairphone like) repairable tables with ARM or RISC-V CPUs primary tailored for media consumption :(, so DIY is the best option.

@IamTheHolypumpkin16 күн бұрын
@@STORMFIRE07yes I did consider it, just very few benchmarks for PineTab2 and PineTabV. As I mostly use my iPad to watch KZbin, Netflix and Disney+ it must have good video performance. As far as I remember, the PinTabs only supports WiFi4 in the drivers although I think the hardware is WiFi5 capable.

Why oh why didn't they shrink bezels and up resolution more? 720 is really bad in this day and era. Yeah I understand that it would've increased prize by few tens. But let's be real. I would've bought this with better specs, but not with these. Any other with same thoughts?
@CyberDunk207720 күн бұрын
The PI HUT has higher resolution screens but they cost a lot more, the waveshare ones are very nice quality and you can get them in a range of sizes. I ordered one of these bad boys from Pimoroni today and it is perfect for my car-puter project that is going in my sun visor.. I like the big bezels personally because it gives a nice gap between the metal chasis and the edge of the screen, although I get what you are saying.

If they wanted to save money on the manufacturing cost you can still ask the first part of your question "why oh why didn't they shrink the bezels .. "
@pgtmr271320 күн бұрын
I hate the bezel too. As to the resolution you're not going to find 720 or better at $60 new in a 7" screen. It's also finally a normal resolution.
@jothain20 күн бұрын
@@tcnymexI'm not sure, but I assume they're using some old panel from years back that has flooded some warehouse. Maybe some manufacturer had ordered for some device, but project died or something?

@@pgtmr2713there's that. At least resolution is normal. Though I still think they could've got panels from some fullhd tablet stock or something like that and still keep price affordable.
