Our Rating System:
We rate albums out of 10. Any album that scores 8 or higher gets a Toe Tag. If an album gets Two Toe Tags then it gets added to the list in the link above. We do not review EP's but we may cover them in our New Release videos should they come up.
In regards to our Reaction videos:
As many of you know KZbin can be an unpredictable and often unfair place when it comes to copyright rules and their enforcement. If our video ends up getting cut due to copyright reasons it will be labeled in the title as a Review rather than a Reaction. The music video portion of the video will be cut out and you will only see our before and after thoughts. Unfortunately this is the best we can do under those circumstances and we would appreciate a Like rating on our videos to help us overcome any negative algorithmic affects.

I’m really digging this. Always loved her melodic bits with the screams, and this album nails it. Until the End is my favorite of theirs and this album ranks right up there.

I’m in my 5th listen and it’s gotten better and better. “Falter” and “Wound” are great and “Grime” is SUPER heavy with a nice breakdown. It definitely takes a couple listens but it’s becoming my favorite; up there with In the Black. And while they do have a lot of melodic hooks, every album before this had at least 3 songs with absolutely no screams and this album featured harsh vocals in every song. It seems more 50/50 but I’m loving it!

New Kittie is great! I'll admit that on my first listen I wasn't all in on the melodic hooks, but after hearing the entire album many times now I really think they nailed the balance between heavy and melodic. The guitar leads courtesy of Tara McLeod are fucking stellar and really elevate Morgan's cleans. "Falter" being a great example of that!

Fire overall is a good album. The riff on Wound is so beefy and juicy I always look forward to that track. The melodics hooked me immediately after the second spin. Overall sonically, clean vocals harsh vocals I give this album a 7.5

Kittie and Alcest were the two big releases on my radar. I'd recommend Alcest if you're unfamiliar.

i do enjoy the songs falter and wound i know their not singles and thats ok i listened to it last night all the 10 or 12 tracks i think it has a cool variety from lyrically conceptually sonically and the fact that we haven't heard anything from them in 13 years makes this album release all the sweeter it is definitely fire the title track the rhythmics and transitions and other auditory things like morgan and mercedes vocals the energy you feel the instruments morgan's sweet voice and the guitars and drums are just singing those shining stars of extremely gifted and professional musicians with every album they just keep rising and getting better and better and just when someone thought they were all used up they are just getting started and that fire song for me that is right up there with halestorm i am the fire both of those groups and songs and albums are going to take off like the rockets that they are if they thought they were famous before talk about some bright shining stars

Fire Reviews: Louder Metal Hammer review: “A supremely assured return from a band who are intent on creating something fresh, new and exciting. This Kittie still has claws.” They gave it 4 out of 5. Kerrang! Review: “Former nu-metal stars Kittie break a lengthy silence with hard-hitting, volume-set-to-kill seventh album…The core of this album is straight relentless metal, sometimes melodic but mostly powering through with sinew and vim….While its not an album that’s doing anything new or shocking, Fire does put Kittie back on the metal map, and reminds us that there’s more to them than they first got credit for.” They gave it 3 out of 5. Metal Insider review: “Fire is a triumphant return for the Lander sisters and longtime guitarist Tara McLeod and bassist Ivy Jenkins….This is a band re-ignited, refreshed, and fully resurrected. Fire is a near-perfect record, not only for the old-school fans who’ve waited over a decade for this but for a younger, hungrier generation of metalheads. Despite the state of metal in 2024, Kittie doesn’t buck to any trend- this record is simultaneously heavy, accessible, and uncompromisingly Kittie.” Cryptic Rock review: “What you have with Fire is a foundation of interesting guitar riffs, song structures that do not overwhelm you just for the sake of doing so, and a mix of harsh and clean vocals that get the balance right…Dark and alluring, the band recapture the magic of their unique blend of styles that unify Alternative Rock with Thrash, Gothic and Death Metal…Fire reclaims them their rightful crown! That is why Cryptic Rock applaud their efforts, giving this comeback album 4.5 out of 5 stars.”

Wage War used to be a hardcore and nu metal-inspired metalcore band with clean vocals that reminded me of Ahren from The Amity Affliction but way better IMHO. Then their pop and electroniic influences started to take over starting with a few of the more radio-friendly songs on their second record. By their 2022 album Manic (which, BTW, is one of my favourites of that year), they had perfected a blend of pop, electronic, metalcore, radio rock and nu-metal that--as someone who grew up as a teenager throughout the 2010's loving pop-metalcore and electronicore like early Asking Alexandria, Memphis May Fire, Issues, I See Stars, Attack Attack! and Woe, Is Me--I really don't mind at all! I actually liked the new record despite the backlash they've been getting online from longtime fans. And that Kittie album surprised me with how decent it is!

Two listens in and I'm quite enjoying it. Casual fan, but I liked all the singles. Funny, I dig all the melodic parts. There's some good riffs on here. Tasteful solos, nice groove and touches of Death Metal. Overall, I think it's a good album. Looking forward to the full review guys.

I LOVE the WHOLE album, but I disagree, some of the NON singles are the best of the album for ME. I thought it was a PERFECT balance of harsh and melodic.

Wage war was a very heavy modern metalcore band but now they are kinda reaching for that bad omens and bring me the horizon crowd. They are great songwriters and write some of the csthiest choruses in metalcore

My issue with the Kittie album is the riffs. When youre not the most technical band, you need to write some catchy riffs, and this album didnt have it. Not a bad album, just a bit too basic for my taste.
