Fascinating topic! Thank you for all your hard work researching this, Adi. Too often we simplify our beliefs into us vs. them…life is richer and more complex than that!

In the study discussed, did it only consider people who self-identified as Democrats or Republicans, but not Independents? Also, based on the title of this video, I was expecting it to talk about how Democrats and Republicans thought/felt about themselves as individuals (e.g., self-esteem, self-perception, etc.) and not about their own political parties. Certainly, the study featured in this interview is interesting in its own way, but now I want to know if any psychology studies have investigated a relationship between political affiliation and self-esteem. 😉

Republicans' lack of empathy makes them genuinely seem like monsters.

Yes, which is scary when you couple it with their religious beliefs... where they truly believe they are the party of God, therefore they will do Whatever it takes to win, because they are doing God's work. The ends justify the means. This will excuse any unethical behavior by their own. Scary.

As a researcher who is funded the ms Wiesel sides with the left is very high. And when researchers use weasel language to avoid discussing facts such as “there’s less difference between parties than we might have thought” you can generally conclude it aligns with their political beliefs. Bottom line is the results actually likely show democrats show less empathy towards republicans.
