Another great Rivian update, thanks, Mike. I thought the sensors were turned off in off-road mode. I will be very impressed when I can drive a windy road hands-free in my Rivian.

The real difference from Tesla on ADAS is Tesla continues to support older models, with hardware 3, and Rivian will be abandoning us GEN 1 owners.

It’s similar to Teslas Gen 1 hardware. It can only do so much. Gen 2 overhead should allow for support for an extremely long time. I can’t be mad at Gen 1 being left behind because there was no talk or promise of full self driving features

The sad thing is that people are getting lazy. I know of someone that shows off his CT and specifically mentions how he doesn’t need Uber anymore when he’s drinking, because his truck just drives him home. No wonder Elon is demanding Trump remove the auto reporting of vehicles getting in crashes while using autonomous tools.

The only thing I don't like about this offer is that it's for the models with the largest battery packs, which are so much more expensive than the base model. I'm way more interested in the base model not only because it's cheaper, but because it has the LFP battery chemistry. LFP is a lot more durable and has a lot more cycle lives than NMC chemistry in the long range vehicles. As someone that does a lot of car camping, and will use the Vehicle to Load capabilities to power off-grid cabin...those extra cycle lives have a lot more value to me than other users. That LFP chemistry and the fact that it is a SUV (rather than a truck) form factor are the only reasons I'm currently considering the R1S over the Cybertruck right now. Love Rivian, they make great vehicles, but otherwise I think the Cybertruck has them beat with better tech, software, range and arguably, overall value.

Both are amazing vehicles. I totally get your want for LFP, my Model 3 is LFP is great, just doesn’t offer the same amount of energy transfer as NMC. But I do feel that managing both NMC and LFP properly will lead to a long lasting battery.

How many people actually want full self driving or what ever it is being called? The cost of repair because of all these sensors is through the roof. My insurance has more than doubled with an EV.

I really only want basic highway assist to decrease fatigue and the enhanced safety features. We know that FSD is a very low conversion rate for Tesla. It’s still a gimmick. But when it actually works, everyone will want it. Also, look into a different insurance company, shop around. My insurance has not changed with EVs

The only challenge for Rivian is getting to profitability. Their product and brand are amazing, but if they can’t make money, they can’t continue to exist. Hopefully they will get some more partners for software and hardware and hopefully their ADAS will compete with FSD. Keep in mind, the only reason that Tesla has the stock valuation they do is that they do more than sell cars. Rivian is not the next Tesla, but maaaaaybe they can be the new GM. Love them and wish them well. My only wish is that my R2 reservation can be an R2T

If you find that it will be useful then that’s a good reason to pick a Tesla over a Rivian. I’d suggest renting one with FSD and live with it for a week to see how much you’d actually use it. Every time I’ve tried it I end up taking over

I like Rivian. But I'm in no way going to compare it's "hands free or eyes off" system to Tesla's FSD in it's current state. Where Tesla is today, managing gravel roads and parking lots or narrow and steep roads with street parking and through traffic. There is absolutely no doubt that by the time Rivian has a system as capable as Tesla's current system, Tesla will have been years into FSD being robo-taxi level. As a former Tesla FSD skeptic, I'm more confident with it's driving than with human Uber drivers.

I went back and found. That originally said Gen 1 was level 3 autonomy. This was prior to launch of R1T. It’s unfortunate but not a promised feature. When buying a car or any tech you should buy a product because of what it is now. Not a promise of the future

How many people can afford the Rivian prices?? I soo regret leasing my R1S last year, i hardly ever drive it nowadays,... No mapped roads? old lidar tech, no real FSD, I have to keep holding the wheel!! and now the gimmick empty promise of RJ for hands free and eyes free, so which? on what road? I have yet to see a mapped road to use my current r1s. never will get driven by the hype on Rivian again. Companies knocking on Rivian's door for tech,...???? seriously ?, for what ? there is zero innovation. I have a Tesla CT, a tesla model S, a tesla model Y and my wife drives a CT, The R1S stays in the garage, nobody wants to drive it. Rivian let every body down empty promises, let down investors and consumers alike. Never ever getting another one after my lease ends. RJ, u need to deliver, not just try to mimic Tim cook and apple. no innovation whatsoever.
