I love the idea of these wireless and automatic systems, but from an old school perspective, it seems ludicrous to have so many batteries all over the bike. Seems like there's so much kinetic energy surging all around the bike. I look forward to the time when the shock controller takes its energy from the motion in the fork.
@eddelgado21713 жыл бұрын
Hahah! Like regenning? No way, not enough kinetic energy on a bike; too slow and specially uphill. Regen here would be non-existent. Those batteries don't weigh much at all. I have a canyon with AXS and the batteries are super lite.
@nroose3 жыл бұрын
@@eddelgado2171 Not really worried about the weight of the batteries. The whole point of a shock is to absorb energy. It's a lot of energy taken up with the bouncing. The shifters, not so much. But brakes, yes, indeed! We would not get enough energy from regen to power the forward motion of the bike, but it would be plenty to operate the shifters and valves.
@eddelgado21713 жыл бұрын
@@nroose I like your thinking sir! I wonder if that would eliminate batteries totally. Hmmm. Although, we would still have to integrate a module to operate and assign all that energy that needs to be spec'd into the right component. Will we eventually need Mac addresses on a bike????? Lol,lol.

@nelsonglover39633 жыл бұрын
Every 5ms, he says in the video
@AllBikesShredits3 жыл бұрын
@Nelson Golver That is only the time per calculation cycle, not the response time. The system might be making calculations every 5ms, but might only have the input data from 1 second ago. So the response time (from the terrain changing to the system actually physically reacting) will be longer than 5ms.
@eddelgado21713 жыл бұрын
@@AllBikesShredits I concur! there will definitely be a communication lag. They would need to integrate some type of HS-CAN and it would have to be wired.
@zoubtube3 жыл бұрын
What they need to do is integrate a similar system like the Motion instruments solution into a product line in order to collect actionable insights on a per trail basis. This would allow us to create baselines per trail. This way, as I ride different trails over time, I can look at the data per trail, and set the appropriate settings per trail either manually, or with flight attended, automatically. That's the ideal solution imo!

AWESOME TECH!!!! This is the future of suspension - the question is: How Much??? 😎
@ThunderousProduction3 жыл бұрын
Or you could put a coil suspension setup on the bike and it be reliable and better. 5 milliseconds is a long lag compared to the instant damping of a coil spring. Can't wait till people are like "sorry can't ride the rest of the trail my suspension battery died"
@johnm913263 жыл бұрын
You get instant damping here too. It’s just running the calculations at the rate. And this will certainly perform better than a coil spring.
@ThunderousProduction3 жыл бұрын
@@johnm91326 Prove to me that an electronic software driven lockout can outperform a spring working in an instant mechanical fashion. Simply not logical, if it was true how come wrc vehicles and motorcycles which are much more highly strained all primarily rely on physical springs for large travel applications. Air is lighter but it simply is not from a physics standpoint as good a design or nearly as dependable.
@johnm913263 жыл бұрын
@@ThunderousProduction Its a normal fork with a computer that adjusts its settings occasionally during your ride. It will work just like any other air fork when the computer isn’t busy. You can argue the pros and cons of air vs coil springs all you like but that’s an entirely different topic. Coil springs are used in motor vehicles because weight and ease of adjustment are less important.
@ThunderousProduction3 жыл бұрын
@@Fr3sh_M1ntz Plenty of mechanical builds but I also have done lots of the electronic builds from the big 2 and I can say while it is very neat there is zero progression made in the features of the groupset being electronic. The one benefit is that the sram mech moves in on impacts however if it wasn't sticking out by a mile like how the shimano shadow tech sits underneath it would not need it anyways. From personal experience they are a rental fleet nightmare.
@th_js3 жыл бұрын
@@johnm91326 Damping is obviously instant as the lockout is damping. You claiming that this can outperform a high-end coil shock is absolutely bold, though and most likely incorrect.
@jnygaarddk3 жыл бұрын
Too complex?? On the contrary. I'm actually extremely disappointed in it's capabilities. Imagine if the high speed compression could be quickly adjusted on the fly. Really quickly, so it could emulate the progression similar to more volume spacers, but just for the hits that need it. The accelerometer should easily be able to calculate that from vertical speed at deceleration from the impact. Imagine a small solenoid valve on the rebound circuit, so it could be adjusted on the fly. Then you could run it as closed/slow/comfy as you would like, without the fear of it packing up on the rock garden. Today you have to adjust rebound to those 20 seconds of the worst case scenario and ride with that for hours. Imagine taking the small pressure sensor from the ShockWiz and baking that in. Then you'd have pressure and damper recommendations handy all the time. Instead we just got a glorified lockout... As said. Disappointed. Almost glad I got stung by the poor design of the RS-1. Works just like a vaccine agains going out and buying more high-end RockShox suspension... But hopefully there is more in the pipeline/roadmap...

Ah, this is supposed to be simple man! It's called user friendly!!! and judging from your speech; you already know what I am talking about. Not everyone has an engineering degree. Those of us that know a little more, should just appreciate this cool tech on a bike. I think it pretty cool as it is.
