My wife & I both work/out at home. She's an early bird, trains before going into her office. I train later in the day, between meetings. Without a fault she'll know when I'm working out. I don't even clang, bang, or zing anything. Apparently a grunt is all it takes (we have a 2,445 sq ft home, I'm on the other side). I don't even grunt much!

So my "new" OPB i bought a few months ago is already retro??? lol, Ain't nothing wrong with a little clanging and banging but I like the idea of less aggressive ribbing on the collars, was never a fan of it making that scrapping sound when loading plates but some of that depends on the type of plates you have.

Thanks for covering this, I would have never known about these changes. I'm particularly interested in the changes to the ribbing of the sleeves. When I bought the 45lb OPB for my home gym setup, I was surprised at how the ribbing on the sleeves made such a loud noise when loading/unloading plates, compared to the ones in the commercial gym. Not sure if the noise is due to the large ribbing or because I am using machined iron plates that don't have the steel hubs. Which do you think makes a bigger difference in terms of minimizing sound of loading plates: ribbed sleeves or plates with steel hub?
@BasementBrandon
@BasementBrandon 10 күн бұрын
yes the plate can make a big difference as well, how tight the tolerance of the center hub is, the material it's made of, if it's tapered or not, etc...

While we are discussing Rogue products, many of us basement and garage gym owners with limited space would greatly appreciate a review of the plate loaded single stack Rogue FM-HR (the half rack functional trainer). This is the cheapest variation with the smallest footprint so it will likely be Rogue’s best seller. I want to purchase one but cannot seem to find answers to two questions: (1) can the FM-HR be converted to a full size power rack later when I have more space; and (2) will the drop-in Rhino work on the plate loaded FM-HR or do I have to purchase the full size rack? The main reason I am leaning towards the plate loaded version is to ensure the drop in Rhino can be added later but I need to know if it will work on the half rack or if the full rack is required. Thanks for all the work you put into this channel. It plays a big factor in my gym equipment purchasing decisions.

@ExpeditionaryRanger
@ExpeditionaryRanger 11 күн бұрын
I spent about two years deciding this. Ended up with the OPB SS/SS this summer with the upgrades. I couldn’t ask for anything else. It’s sublime. The price difference in Canada was too large to ignore and the Gluck gym video describing the knurl as less aggressive were the killers. Also some reviews, whether true or not, of some people getting a bent chewy weighed on my mind. I can confirm no rattle in mine and silent deadlifts. Considered the dbl bd from rep also. Also, 29 mm tpb.
@zdoubleyou2073
@zdoubleyou2073 11 күн бұрын
That’s awesome! Thank you! I think I’ll go with the Opb since I also want the new kabuki transformer. I’d use the OPB for bench, kabuki for squat, and I actually use a kabuki trap for deadlifts but would also swap in the OPB or just use my current OB since that’s a good transition to overhead lifts and with crash cushions and urethane plates if the collars are tight it’s a nice setup
@BasementBrandon

Tough choice. My AB Chewy is prob my best built bar I own, but you have to decide if you want to pay a few hundred more for it. The sleeves are also really nice on the AB as they do chrome a lot better than Rogue does.
@richardmather1906
@richardmather1906 7 күн бұрын
@@BasementBrandon I was wondering about the chrome. I have the AB Grizzly Power Bar, which is their "economy" bar, though it is more expensive than Rogue. But the chrome is really well done. I see people dissing chrome and I don't get it, it works really well, IMO.
@BasementBrandon
@BasementBrandon 7 күн бұрын

Majoring in the minors… I was hoping this upgrade was going to make it useable in a 49 inch rack without clattering the plates into the uprights. Sadly, it seems Rogue still think it’s acceptable to have to use a workaround to use their very own power bar in their very own power racks 😡

I am with Dan on this one…Rogue racks accompanied with a 20 KG Rogue Power bar is a giant pain in the ass. I stick to a Texas SS bar and it mostly resolves the problem of smacking into the rack. I am not sure why Rogue insists on the 49 inch wide rack. I love Rogue…however, a lot of the time they over engineer something and create problems. I haven’t seen a AGGRO 2x bar but I am willing to bet it is also a pain in the ass too.
