Having to move furniture around to sweep has become too big a chore. This blower was the answer. It is light enough for this 70yr old lady and powerful enough to blow all the tree droppings off my rather large deck. Thank you B&D. Be aware the cord is not included. I use a 3 prong outdoor cord 25' cord for my 12' x 20' deck. The cord retainer works very well, but don't try to pass the plug through it. That is NOT how it works. You just have to loop the cord and it works great. One of my best purchases. Very happy.

Seeing as I have the Ryobi Mower, handheld blower, and the 40V attachment capable power head it looks like the Ryobi backpack will probably be finding a place in my shed. It's more of a case of battery loyalty than brand loyalty. Ryobi has made a commitment to making the most tools that take their battery, they proved it with their 18V line and they continue to prove it with the 40V line. I don't know EGO, but I do know they only have a handful of tools and almost no history that I know of.

I got the Ryobi as soon as I saw it last month. I really couldn’t find anything to blow, so I’m glad to see it reviewed. I don’t have a very large yard, but live on the edge of a forest, so I get a lot of leaves. I chose Ryobi because I’m already in their ecosystem with a growing collection of their 40 volt batteries.

Aldo Jr I did use it briefly to blow some leaves out from under some pine trees. These were old wet leaves that were tucked under a pine tree all winter. The blower seemed good. Not amazing, but good. It is hard to really judge it yet. Old compacted wet leaves are difficult. I won’t really have a good sense about how well the blower works under typical conditions until this fall. Since it included a 5ah battery, which I wanted anyway, the package cost seemed like a good value.

Battery operated tools are definitely here to stay however there are still folks around who still believe that battery operated drills and saws are just a novelty for light duty work around the house and the idea of a riding mower will create a laugh that could be heard for miles. . As batteries get more powerful and smaller I think things will catch on a lot quicker for the mowers.....AND.....manufacturers need to stop gouging our wallets for batteries....as always....a good and informative video.

I have a little under half an acre of yard that gets filled with leafs. I have more trees in the backyard to less trees to no trees moving towards the front yard. My neighbor reminded one day that leaf pick up starts that day. I only have an old sears 210 mph corded leaf blower. There was no way I was gonna get all the leaves to the curb in time. Without spending a single penny buying something new, I took out my 2700 psi power washer and power washed the leaves to the curb with only a few leaves left behind and what ever started to fall down. You’ll be surprised that the leaves were not drenched with water cause I was surprised. The red nozzle mowed the leaves so friggin far. If you aim low but just right above the top of the grass line, the power washer pushed the leaves further than my other neighbors gas powered 52cc blower. Moral of my story: Milli Vanilli was setup. #freemilli

@@johnjohnson-uz2gl On a volley ball, a cross wind will cause a rotation which reduces the effective drag on the volley ball making the same velocity and volume of air transfer less force into the ball. Even a slight rotation can cause a significant change in the drag. In volleyball, a Float Serve takes advantage of the drag on the ball. by not spinning the ball on the serve, the ball is much less predictable as wind or pressure differences can cause the ball to change paths more easily.

I had a first gen Echo 58v volt blower and trimmer.. man you talk about arms being cooked after 15 mins, the batteries were so heavy it ruined the benefits of not using gas. I then switched over to the 80v Kobalt lineup and it was like night and day, amazing power and lightweight. It changed my perception on what cordless could really do. That was 4 years ago, so I am one of those that kind of expects a quantum leap in battery life, power, etc. I can't say I am really seeing it yet, but it is going in that direction.

Here's my take - I see the Ryobi is quieter. But I wouldn't recommend anyone go into the 40v line of tools from Ryobi. Why? I have their older blower. There is practically no ventilation holes in the battery. After 3 years the battery is worn out, but thatls not totally unexpected, but I use it only once a month. Just look at the video where you guys reviewed the lawn mower. The charger has no fan in it and can't even charge after use for 45 minutes. Which means, unlike the EGO, there is also no ventilation of the battery while running (Motor has a fan on the bottom which draws air in from the battery out the bottom to cool motor and battery and electronics. Which means Ryobi's must run hot and that's not good for wear or life, esp for lawn mowers. I doubt there is anything different with this battery design.) The only other brand that has well designed batteries I've seen is Greenworks, but they still got it wrong having 20, 40, 60, 80 volt tools instead of just one battery voltage. Oh, and when I got my Ryobi blower fixed, they had the battery Ryobi rider mower sitting outside waiting to be repaired. That's anecdotal evidence, but the mower was only on the market for like 6 months and it's already there. EGO, on the other hand, only puts cruise controls on their more expensive hand held blowers from 2017 and 2018.

There products have been amazing so amazing that three of my neighbor's were jealous sold there fairly new gas stuff and bought ego's .... None of us have had a single issue !! Now that being said .... As home owners who do little DYI projects here and there each of us own Ryobi power tools ... Drills, impacts saws ect... These blowers are priced very close. When you move to lawn mowers, you can buy 2 Ryobi for the price of one EGO. With technology getting better and small changes happening... Would you now rather be able to buy a new one in two years and upgrade? You would then have two or sell one... I don't know. EGO's prices keep going up, not coming down. The last two battery EGO mower was almost a grand.

@@JeeperJimbo I agree, to buy a quality watch, SOMETIMES you have to pay more. Is Rolex higher quality than X brand? Here, we have similar plastic, similar battery cells, similar parts, buy huge price differences in some items. EGO, (Chervon) charges a mint for EGO battery packs, but will sell 24-volt Kobalt stuff for $10 in Lowes. The Chervon owned Skil brand is not cheap either but does not outperform anything we have seen. So why pay the price tag for another tool with crazy prices batteries. With that said, EGO has been rocking it with battery technology and this is the first tool we have seen kick butt right with it. I assume there will be more to come. So my point is, while others can make the same product with less expense, why has not a blower from 2 years ago come down in price at all to compete? Why are the EGO battery packs so expensive when others have fallen in prices and we all know that 18650 cells have dropped in price? I love EGO, but give me something more than a $1,300 inverter and a fuel gauge on batteries this year.

@@WorkshopAddict I think you already answered that question in your own review - the Ryobi mower damaged itself when you hit a tree, and the battery lasted nowhere near as long. Heck, you gave it the smaller battery and it still killed it. Heck, the price of the new Ryobi 21 inch lawn mower is $600. Ego's just dropped to $500 and STILL has a bigger battery than the new Ryobi! Oh, OK, it isn't a metal deck. I really want Ryobi to do well and it isn't a bad choice, but that battery. Fundamental's matter!

I like not having to hold the turbo button constantly. I have a Greenworks backpack blower, and my thumb gets sore holding that button down. I think your video swayed me from the Ego to the Ryobi. I was also very surprised that their 40V unit could compete. Thanks for making this!

Rubberband and stick. Wrap a rubber band around the handle twice, put a stick under it holding the Turbo button down, and no more sore thumb. Ego did a good job designing most of their equipment but screwed up on this. There should be a way to engage and keep the Turbo on. I will probably carve a piece of wood to fit around the handle slightly so it will not dislodge as easily as the stick can.

This weekend I got to use my EGO back pack blower. Everyone else brought Stihl gas blowers to do our large parking lot. The Stihl obviously was more powerful. But they all had to refuel in about 20 minutes. I of course needed to recharge. But I think I needed ear protection from them - you can barely hear mine on. Major downside of the Ryobi - 4 hr or longer recharge time. Mine was 100 mins on the mark. And that's the slow charger.

My 7.5 will recharge in about 45 minutes on the fast charger. That's including cool down time, I know with some of the Ryobi mowers not only did you have a multi hour charge time, but the batteries didn't even start charging until an hour or more of cooling down. Unless they've come out with an active cooling charger since then.

@@sprockkets I figured as much, just wanted to be as objective as I could. I'll never buy Ryobi, they get you with the reasonable tool prices. However the fact that you'll have to rebuy batteries keeps you a frequent customer for life. I've seen tear downs of Ego batteries and by the components they manufacture it very well and use the best cells (Samsung 825Rs I believe) that you can get within reason.

I bought in to the battery thing 4 years ago and I love it! I have the Ryobi 40V Mower, Trimmer and Leaf blower. All of them pushing 4 years old. I use to have to replace my 2 stroke gas trimmer every season. I check in with your channel to get a feel of what's coming. I don't understand, if you are such a heavy duty user that a gas trimmer only last 1 yr, how will a batteries trimmer last longer? Are you using it as a commerical trimmer? if you are, how many batteries pack you will need in your truck to make it work one full day?

You compared the battery sizes and determined the Ryobi battery was more efficient because even though the battery was smaller the Ego only lasted 2 minutes more. Did I misunderstand because you shouldn't base battery efficiency on battery size. The Ego, which I have, has a battery pack that has batteries spaced so that no more than 2 cells are together in rows to allow better air flow. I suspect the Ryobi has a tighter grouping to achieve the smaller battery pack size. Since the cells are closer together, heat can build up more. It was interesting that even with different fan sizes and placements, the blowers has similar specs. Thanks for the review. I'm still glad I went Ego.

So you really missed an important point. The Ryobi one is a 1 Piece Unit meaning that the backpack cannot be used for other Ryobi garden tools. Whereas the Ego backpack can be used for their entire Domestic and Commercial Range. This is why I went to Ego. I can now use all their Garden tools with the backback, so not only they all become a little lighter but with one 7.5AH battery I can do all my gardening...Blower, Hedges, Edges, Line Trimming and so on. Just wish they had a Vac. I'm going to se if I can use an old Ryobi battery blank and wire my EGO back back to it for that.

I have been using the ego for two years, very controllable, no issue at all. But it is true, my thumb is on the turbo button > 90% of the time. Run time is about 12 min turbo on with 7.5 battery.

Great channel 👍... Solid review. I own a few Ryobi cordless power . tools. The new Ryobi zero turn lawnmower looks very cool. ... Ego has a rep for quality products. I never hear bad reviews about ego tools. They are pricey. I don't know about Ryobi 40v OPE. Maybe it is a good line. I'd bet the EGO would be problem free for years.... Like hand tools do you buy IR , Snap on, Matco or just gear wrench, milwaukee, etc. For tools I use everyday or count on, I want the best. For seldom used tools I'd buy an a second tier line of tools. .. ... if your in the Ryobi platform, it looks like a solid choice.

Just purchased the Ryobi Ride on, Not Zero Turn as it was too wide for my access. The Tractor model has a very small turning circle, so check that out before you get the Zero Turn. But an awesome product.

About 30-40min for the EGO and the Ryobi should be comparable if you're only using one battery. The main selling point here should be 1) The dual battery slots on the Ryobi, and 2) The cruise control on the Ryob. I've used the Ego and you NEED the turbo on to really move anything and it hurts your hand to hold the button down.

Ego wins easily. Great warranty as well. I am waiting to receive my ego multi head package as we speak. And blowers are gonna be noisy no matter what. You still need ear plugs. I bought an ego mower in November 2018 for $350 at Home Depot. After so many reviews and videos I watched I just went ahead and made my way to Home Depot preparing to pay $399 but they had them on sale for $349. Someone said ego was the Tesla of mowers. I said what the heck and bought the mower on sale. Ryobi was another serious choice I was considering but the reviews on them weren’t exactly hands down great compared to ego mowers reviews and I said to myself if I’m gonna shell out this kind of money I’m gonna get the “creme de la creme” the “Tesla”of mowers if you will. I heard reviews about the warranty etc. they send you new mowers or batteries if something went wrong etc. so that with the sale price of $349 was a winner in my book. Recently I ordered the multi head system and I still have one battery and one charger and I think one battery is all I need for now. I don’t need all these different chargers either. I have the rapid charger the mower comes with. Charging takes 40 minutes and your back to work. 40 minute break isn’t a bad idea. And Yes, no more gas and oil!!! I say it’s worth it. A lifetime of dealing with gas equipment was enough for me. It ruins your motivation to do the lawn when your struggling to start these gas engines etc. I don’t like doing the lawn as it is. Just a push of a button and your off and done. I’m sure batteries will be cheaper down the road. I guess ryobi is a good option just watch the comparison reviews like this video. I just wanted the “Tesla” instead of the bolt or leaf if you will. Now I literally want an EV vehicle lol. I’m watching KZbin videos on those as well but $5,000-$10,000 for a battery is outrageous compared to $200 battery for ego equipment.

Josh Mann I just switched over to Ego stuff. I have pretty much every tool they make that I would use. I just bought my lawn mower and have not used it yet. The tools I have used have been impressive. I used the snow blower, power head with pole saw attachment, and the back pack blower for removing light snow falls. I would not hesitate to buy any of their stuff. One thing I would recommend is to get a second battery by buying another tool as a kit. I find the 5 ah batteries to be Ego's sweet spot if you will. I can run all of my tools indefinitely as I have enough enough batteries and a couple rapid chargers.

My friend works at Home depot and tells me that battery powered motors are clearly out selling gas. Though he lives in the city where lawns are quite small and that may be the reason. But it seems that there is a shift away from gas powered equipment. I lived in my house now for 18 years and I don't really hear the sounds of gas mowers anymore.

the reason power lawn equipment is not look at the same way as car like Tesla is because of Batteries, car like Tesla have range around 300 miles same as a tank in gasoline car, while a batteries backpack blower might last only 20 min while a gas version can run for hours and no overheating! that's one reason but is a HUGE reason imo

Bought the ryobi, used twice and immediately returned it. It only comes with one battery so a second one is another 150 bucks. So on full power (which is the only useful mode unless you are trying to tease a single dry leaf to move an inch or tickle your dog's whiskers) so out of the box you get about 9-10 minutes. What is the point of a backpack blower that only lasts 10 minutes? Just get a light handheld that will last longer (or just go corded if you don't want gas). I really don't understand who this is for. My only guess is that the engineering department was told one thing while sales was promising another to the VPs and in the end you get the worst of all worlds. So it seems like the only reason there is a "turbo' mode, is so that they can claim the battery life of low power (again useless) while touting higher cfm. IMHO get a handheld for 10 minute jobs, buy a gas one or wait until li-on backpack engineering improves. Another point: it also has the feel of a ganky kid's toy, the little plugs that hold the backstraps to the housing are cheap plastic and one was already not holding and I had to temporarily (to at least try it out) use a bolt and washers ... and this was straight out of the box. It also has a top strap but not a waist strap so it hangs awkwardly.

If you're using any Backpack blower, you will probably be using it for an extended period. Please use ear protection & I would advise eye protection for anything like this. I wear glasses full time, but I do add goggles in some conditions.

I’m a huge ryobi fan. I’ve got a ton of One+ tools, and I have the 40v mower, blower, trimmer with cultivator and chainsaw. I like them quite a bit, however the mower was aweful at bagging. I just got the 21inch ego and I’m in love, not only does it bag perfectly fine, but I can now do it on a single charge. Anyways, one thing that fake apparent to me very quickly was how ego batteries have much more efficient cooling. All of my Ryobi 40v batteries get very hot after a lot of use. The ego? Not even warm to the touch. Ontop if that, it charges noticeably faster. Needless to say, I’m turning into an ego snob. I just wish they were so damned expensive...

Nich Citarella it doesn’t push the grass far back into the bag, probably because the bottom of the bag has an incline that it has to work against. Each pass around my yard I had to push it back by hand or it would get stuck. Perhaps a different blade would help that would create more suction, however, it was night and day difference when I got the eGo.

Nich Citarella I’m just using the blade it came with, just like the eGo. It’s a much cleaner cut (lawn looks better) and bags just fine. That being said, I never thought about bagging blades, I have one on order for the ego since someone said it creates enough suction to pick up leaves

JoeyDee yea, your ryobi should have definitely came with 2 blades. 1 for bagging and 1 for mulching. You may have accidentally tossed it. I almost did. It was wrapped in cardboard with no label. It looked like it was just padding until I tried to break down the box and got met with steel 🤣

That ego is pushing 54v so of course its going to drain the battery faster. For ryobi to keep up & with it is amazing. What alot of people don't know is with the 54v platform you give up run time for power.

People don't realize the marketing behind voltage on battery powered tools. The physical size of the battery means nothing compared to what cells are inside and how they are wired up.

That doesn't make much sense. The EGO has the same ah capacity with more volts - IOW it has more batteries in it. I'm not sure about the efficiency argument either - the EGO has one straight path to force air out.

At 56 volts the Ego can run higher watt motors. The Ego BpB has a 1200 watt brushless motor, not sure about the ryobi as it is never stated in the vid. Both batts would have the same amount of cells.

I had a gas stihl 550 backpack for 7 years & sold it for $200 bought the EGO handheld for blowing out gutters it was totally gutless POS it killed 2 batteries just doing gutters & then 6months old & both batteries I had to get replaced but I think I'll try ryobis back blower & push mower & those two will be about the same cost as my stihl 550 back pack blower was $600 new from Land & Coates

Disagree a bit on the batteries. Take a 7.5 ah battery and compare it to Egos 5.0 they keep the frame very similar but you'll get a lot longer run time out of that 7.5.

@@WorkshopAddict Yea that may be something to go with, but something that really is a winner for Ryobi is that it can hold 2 batteries at once. I imagine once you get the things on your back you'd rather not take them off until the job is done. So there's ups and downs of both. One question I had is are the battery warranties 3 years on the Ryobi? My dad has a lot of Ryobi stuff, because being the savvy shopper he is he saw how cheap the batteries are compared to other manufacturers. Well 4 out of 6 batteries he has failed shortly after coming out of their 1 year warranty period. Makes me really question the cells inside of them. I'd hope the outdoor tool variants are better than their power tool batteries. Great review by the way, I really enjoy watching you guy's videos.

@@ImaITman The Ego has a 3 year battery warranty and a5 year blower warranty. The Ego battery does not pack the cells as tightly as I suspect the Ryobi does which allows the Ego battery to run slightly cooler and also charge cooler. That might be the downfall of the Ryobi batteries.

This is exactly what I was looking for. I literally Googled "ryobi vs ego blower". I'm a professional landscaper but don't do any mowing/leaf clean-up/string trimming. I'm looking to potentially get into that sector of the industry, but I'm not willing to use gas, so this is exactly what I'm interested in. Ego typically seems to be the way to go for outdoor power tools, moreso even than stihl, echo, dewalt etc.

I'm nervous about Ryobi's batteries. My father saw the price of the plus tool batteries and bought a lot of their tools and maybe 6 batteries over a period of time. 4 out of the 6 batteries that he's gotten failed shortly after the 1 year warranty. Not sure what Ryobi's warranty is on the lawn equipment batteries, but I've seen Ego's torn down and examined by engineers and they are nearly guaranteed to last longer than the three year warranty so long as the components that keep the cells safe stay working.

I’ve had the same experience with Ryobi. Batteries just don’t last, and warranty replacement has been an effort in futility each time. I just switched to Ego hoping for a system that is of higher quality, and the company will stand behind.

EGO is slightly less weight and the Ryobi ran 1 minute 43 seconds less than the EGO. Runtime for these depends on how hard you use them. We would have thought that EGO would have been a clear winner, but it did not happen that way at all.

This is still EGO's flagship backpack. But I think it has to do with EGO wanting to change the industry where Ryobi seen that they could add an electric motor to we proven system and with some work, make it efficient and quiet. Not sure what to say. I do not see the EGO backpack blowers on sale, so I know a new model is not coming.

@@WorkshopAddict Technically the flagship model is the $450 model with the 7.5ah battery. Another tester got 27 minutes runtime on turbo with that model. And after one year of commercial use, runtime decreased by 2 minutes. Which is expected if batteries degrade to 80% within the first year but don't degrade much after that.

Definitely a lot of factors at play here but what’s not being talked about and I think worth noting is that Ryobi might be using a more expensive battery cell vs the ego. If they are getting “almost” the same run time as ego but in a much smaller package then, Ryobi is the clear winner and should have more life cycles.

You can pull a trailer with a 4 cylinder eco box or with a V8 Pickup. The eco box is smaller and has to work harder to pull the trailer and the little engine will die sooner. The same might be true for smaller batteries having to work harder and therefore dying sooner. But I think there is a different reason for different battery sizes. I saw an opened Ego battery. The cells were in rows of 2 which allowed ventilation between the cells especially with the fan in the charger. I suspect the Ryobi battery is smaller because the batteries are packed together tighter which allows more heat to build up. Since heat during use and during charging is probably the greatest contributor to quicker battery death, the Ryobi will probably need to be replaced before the Ego.

I really need the turbo running at all times with my Ryobi and it lasts about 15 minutes...before needing to recharge for 3 hours....so this isn't great and I'm thinking of returning it for a 2 cycle. I only need to run this thing for a couple of hours per year so I'd need the second battery...and even then, I don't want to have to think about these 2 hours as a whole weekend project. I just want to turn it on, get the job done and be over with it and this isn't the tool for that kind of work.

I picked up the Ryobi Its just not all that good, on full charge it only runs for 12mins and about 5mins in I could tell it wasnt blowing as hard. The battery faded so and I picked up a second battery it did the same for a total of $400 it was very underwhelming I returned it and picked up a gas eco for $40 cheaper and its night and day the power

Ego's batteries are larger because of their cooling design. If you run the Ryobi on Turbo until the battery is dead and then put that hot battery in the charger right away, I bet it takes an incredibly long time to charge. Ego's batteries come out of the tool cool and begin charging right away. That in itself is worth a 10% increase in price ($30 on $300). Also, 2 minutes on a 20 min run time is 10%, not a lot, but more than nothing. Combine that with the much easier storage and it's the Ego for me. Commenting on the rest of the lineup, yes Ego's mowers are expensive but they are GOOD, as are the rest of the tools in their lineup. Their batteries and chargers are the best in the business as far as I can tell. I've owned a few Ryobi tools over the years and been happy with them considering their price. However, if Ryobi was charging Makita money then no, not at all good value, I'd take my Makita stuff every time. I just picked up the Ryobi 18V 23ga pin nailer on clearance and so far it seems OK. Not as nice as my 18V Hitachi brad nailer, but it was cheaper so... you have to consider that.

Ryobi 40v 5AH costs 120$ right now, EGO 56v 5.0 costs 250$ right now, however it is also worth pointing out that the EGO battery has 80 more watt hours in the battery and typically lasts longer. Additionally, the 7.5AH battery from ryobi costs 230$ and the ego costs 350$. and has 120 watt hours difference in battery capacity.

Where are you watching your own video both times the echo was a lot higher you could clearly see almost twice the height with the heavier ball but even with the lighter ball you could see a big difference but it is hard to compare those two products because Acco is using a much more powerful battery Ryobi is still five years behind their competition their biggest battery is only 7.5 amp hour at 36 V That gives a huge advantage to the competition Ryobi has got to come out with at least a 12 amp hour battery and even though that may not be the competition it would at least enable them to keep up most of the videos you do I think I really good but you should watch your video again you will notice a big difference

Speaking off the cuff, a blower can move a certain amount of air, but the speed of it will be due to the size of the tube. BUT, I totally understand what you are saying and I do not think there is a specific way they have to rate these units. So, they might not meet the specs of others.

The connection for all the Ego batteries is the same. The 2.0, 2.5, 5.0, and 7.5 batteries can theoretically be used on all Ego products, but the physical case sizes increase with the Ah ratings.

Nice job, thanks for sharing. Just a suggestion/constructive criticism but; you could have done a more in depth view/show all the features of each blower with close up shots & take apart the units so we can see the quality of the parts, motors, electronics etc.. Not like Mr. thinks he knows it all AVE does, just a general look around inside/visual inspection. Especially in regards to the plastic. We don't give AF about the type & how much percentage of fiberglass reinforcement is in the plastic just show us the fucking innards of the damn tools FFS SMDH LOL! HA HA HA have a good one :-)
