New safety measures to protect students on school buses

In Maine this past school year, there were reportedly 173 stop arm violations in one day, when drivers illegally passed a school bus.

Drivers would stop for that God forbid someone should damage their car but some drivers care less if they hit a child so very sad.

@@markunavail8510 they all got automatic stops and cars park themselves so they just drive through it thinking the car will stop itself if a child is in the way. I knew that automatic stop thing was a bad idea. It only encourages careless driving.

I think School buses should have License Plate reading Cameras that would capture a motorists license plate if they fail to stop for the school bus signals

Well you have to think about how much the labor and equipment actually is. Also the mechanism that is actually required to hold and support the extension. Yet I do think they should have this no matter what

I loved when he said you can't put the price on the life of a kid. Thats right, because contractors and board owned bus facilities have to spend thousands of dollars to add things such as crossing control arms which come up to an estimate of $400 for each mechanism. The Supply Chain and a careless government is also at fault.

My bus driver pulls a little into the other lane when I cross the road. So that way people half to stop.

I like this. Maybe we will be lucky enough to get a couple interesting videos of some clotheslines of people choosing to be not paying attention. That happens quite often in other countries. ....Unfortunately, one uncommon side effect for students using these stop signs during bussing days is when they first start riding regular, public transit bus routes. They can forget that there is no requirement for drivers to stop.... so they might walk directly into traffic. I've seen't it.

fisheye cameras mounted above the folding stop sign would get violators on film and police send them a ticket; many in use already...

Cameras are the best way. Offenders are allowed to watch their guilt on the Counties website before deciding to contest the offense or just pay the hefty fine.

Why not add a small camera on the side of the bus to get the plate number and the car type and driver so that y will get justice as a driver not just owner and maybe add Led sticks of blinking red

Already done in some school districts. A private vendor pays the cost of the equipment so the school district isn't out of pocket any money. The vendor in return gets 40% of each $500 ticket. ($200). The remaining $300 goes to the school district.
