A turn signal violation is only an infraction of law. It is not an arrest-able offense. Anything other than writing a citation and allowing her to go on her way is a violation of police rules and policy. She was arrested for the non law violation of simply "Pissing Off The Police". That arrest cost her her life. The officer should be charged with her death along with the false arrest, a Civil Right Violation, kidnapping, assault and actions unbecoming of a public official. The Internal Affairs Investigator should also be charged with assisting in a crime after the fact.

When you walk out your door and have to clean up a piece of liver, the police blew out of someone you've been knowing for years. Then you would understand, what we go through everyday. Explanation, "Rookie cop, it was a mistake" family didn't have enough money to sue and back then we did not have pay when you win. My coworker lost her 15 year old son, cop thought he was the one he was chasing, although he just walked out and sat in the car, three years to find out, it was a mistake, but think about it, he was going to kill the guy he was chasing. I was sitting legally and looked up to the barrel of guns and surrounding by white officers, they almost killed me, because someone called and said suspicious vehicle. I have a million stories, I'm from Chicago. Kids have given up and don't care if they die and don't expect to live past 18. You and people like you created this, because you won't to believe the people who think we should be slaves.

Don't have to tell the person why you're arresting them? The only arrestable offence he outlined was resisting arrest. In order to resist arrest, you have to be under arrest. So he's breaking the law. And if the person isn't under arrest, why are you dragging her out of her car in the first place? Is not doing what the police tells you to do an arrestable offence? Only in the US would you have criminals policing the general population.

@KhosrowZanganeh13749 жыл бұрын
Actually mate in many of the countries you just named things like that don't happen and the police officers are quite polite and abide by the law of their land, now you could argue that their law might be stricter than yours but at least the people in those countries know the laws and by living in that land and paying taxes and so on and so forth have willing or sometimes unwillingly accepted those terms and if violate them will take the punishment, however in this case and many other cases the people in question are not breaking any laws and are punished, not by the judiciary mind you but by the officer, for no crimes. Unfortunately In the US people are being executed for no reason at all in the streets without no court or anything.

"You were just going to get a warning if you didn't resist arrest" - why was she being arrested at all for a warning? "I'm calling my lawyer" - cop proceeds to get in the vehicle to stop her and then pulls the taser to "light her up" After taking Sandra to the ground "I have epilepsy", response from cop: "good" - sounds like he was trying to hurt her for not being humble Female cop: "I saw everything, I was here the whole time" - then why did the stopping officer call for another unit? This video is the epitome of a police officer provoking an escalation of force when they're in the wrong so they have a reason to hurt someone that isn't bowing to their uniform.

Some cops believe the slightest perceived threat to their manhood is a challenge to their authority as an officer. I also don't believe its a coincidence that the majority of all of these recent deaths of blacks that come as a result of an encounter w/the police have the same one thing in common in terms of race. Sad

-panemon .. I am pretty right wing but I have a problem with this arrest, he lost his cool when she questioned him. So perhaps he had a problem with a black woman questioning his authority. He tailgates her, she got nervous and moved out of the way, forgetting her turn signal. He caused that. They know they make people nervous when they do that.. So failing to signal gave him the excuse to pull her over. Sorry the young Turks got this one exactly right.
@cmoore64859 жыл бұрын
***** - Not sure what political affiliation has to do with this traffic stop. Troopers have a 7 step violator interview protocol to follow during traffic stops and even DPS stated that the officer violated protocol during this stop. Regarding racial bias, in my comment I stated that I believe that there is no coincidence involving the recent gross disproportionate amount of blacks (specifically unarmed blacks) losing their lives as a result of an encounter with a police officer. If you can provide several recent situations in which unarmed whites have suffered the same fate after a police stop/encounter, I will agree with you that there is no racial bias.
@cmoore64859 жыл бұрын
Raven Evans Thx, I just think it's sad for us to live in what most would call a post racial America yet were living in a time where different households have to have different conversations on protocol to follow when getting pulled over yet we all live in the same America where were supposed to be able to share the same rights and same liberties.

+Gymnast 4life It's not always about race. The problem is that police in the USA get very little training before being sent out on duty. Many of them know very little about the law in general, except for the obvious, and one cannot arrest people and enforce the law properly without actually knowing what is lawful and what is not. This is why these things happen so often.

Why ask if you are going to be an asshole after? 4: Cop asks her to put her cigarette out, which she refuses and has no legal obligation to do so. 5: He drops his clipboard on the car hood and tells her to get out of the car with an attitude. Which at this point is an unlawful order as she has no obligation to get out of the vehicle at the END of the traffic stop because she didnt want to put out her cigarette. The cop was just fishing. 6: "Im gonna light you up" not sure I'd consider that as a "im a good guy giving you a lawful order" or a "Im a psycho, do what i say or else"...but you be the judge. 7: He makes sure she steps OFF dash cam view so he can make up the rest of the story. Yeah this is open and shut case of police brutality and power abuse. One of these days cops are going to find people will be done with all this and will start demanding the supreme court rule police have way less power then they already have. +bryantpierce "black lady attitude??" for being pulled over on a bs stop he provoked by tailgating her? She did not yell, she stopped talking until he told her to put out her cigarette in her car. That is the only reason he gave to drag her out of her car. Not even a crime. At that point he should have just given her a warning and let her go.
@wittledragon13149 жыл бұрын
bryantppierce keep your racism to yourself. For someone with a "black lady attitude" she sure was calm and collected to me. All the cop had to do was explain the warning and say "sign here" and then walk away. 3 seconds. The time it took him to ask her what was wrong and put out the cigarette. Instead asked if she was ok, which she explained. then comes off as a complete asshole saying "are you done?". That would be defined as "egging on". He was trying to get her pissed off to give him an excuse. When he saw that didnt work he asked her to put out her cigarette seeing if that'd piss her off too as most smokers it relieves stress. Seeing that didnt work either he then had enough and decided to just be a dick all together and just told her to get out of the vehicle. He was the one with the attitude not her. To be honest I wish she did get out of the vehicle because I wanted to see how far this cop would of went with his attitude problem. Her refusing to step out of the vehicle is just an excuse for him to get away with his police brutality and power trip since people like yourself are blind to that idea that it was "lawful".

The one thing I DO think might have happened is, she might have ingested any weed she might have had, anticipating a possible search of her car. I don't believe for a moment, Sandra was smoking pot all the while knowing what cops are capable of doing especially in the south.

yarpen800 I hear ya but I disagree. It's one thing that we can't do many things we once were allowed to do, but to call her an asshole because she vocalized her disappointment, confusion and astonishment is part of the problem with the mindset in America. Cops work for us!!! They need to keep calm just like a pilot does. Have you ever heard of a pilot getting on the intercom either belligerently or in a panic? No! Cops and pilots are train to defuse and calm a potentially bad situation, down. And if cops now think we have to cow-tow to their arrogant ways then......this will continue to take place. She had the right to smoke a cigarette and answer the cops question. After all, he engaged in the conversation with her after HE asked HER if she was alright.

*I dont really care if the driver was Black or whatever, but there are several inconsistencies with what the Police officer did here.* *1)* Assuming tailgating happened. It was done in order to stress a speed up or lane change etc. And using that in order to pull the person over. Now, why do I think that is actually the truth, because ref 2. *2)* Mid stop the Police officer wants the person out, but is unwilling to say what for. When the driver gets out he directs her away from the car camera. Later she is arrested for -resisting arrest- assault on a public servant (worse). Its logical to assume that he wanted this outside the camera because then it would be claim vs claim without video evidence. Ergo the Police officer would have more weight to hes word. *3)* The Police officer in question has priors. The Women threaten with taking this to court, which she made very clear. *Ergo, the Police officer has a motive for killing her. Not wanting and or risk losing hes job.* *She dies 3 days later in jail. Under questionable circumstance AND where station protocol wasnt followed.* The officers at the jail claim she committed suicide, which might be true, but they also stated that they didnt check on her every hour like they should have. The didnt do it in person they claim, but via video feed. Which is a good excuse if you in reality didnt check at all because you would technically still be where the video screens were, but besides that. You, the Police station, saying there is video feed of her in her cell? *What does the cell video show?* *Why is that video not released?* *What was the rigamortis state of the body when found?* _(Will indicate how many hours, aka times, they checked a corpse for "life" via video feed, or lying!)_ *Why did they setup a possible murder case?* *Where was the Police officer in question between the time of her being last seen alive and ending up dead?* *Does the Police officer have other allies at the Police station?* *Did the officer arrange something via phone, Internet or other?* etc

Lobos222 "Arrested for resisting arrest" is an interesting situation isn't it :p Technically, you can't really be arrested for resisting arrest, only charged, since you ALREADY HAVE TO BE UNDER ARREST. It's illegal to arrest without telling why, thus the term "Miranda Rights"
@Lobos2229 жыл бұрын
***** You should read the wording in my post a bit better. I am stating there are inconstancies and those inconsistencies give the Police officer doing the stop a possible motive for killing her. That makes him a suspect, it doesnt make him automatically guilty. The wrongful arrest however is a open and shut case in my view. In that the Police officer was in the wrong. I have another post on mental conditions in high stress situations here: plus.google.com/110051279189376383967/posts/6dRrCYKfX2N _(A few replies down from the OP)_ One does not technically need to be depressed or other to commit suicide in prison or similar. Nether did I rule out suicide as a possibility here ether, but its not the only aspect in this case. "There was a camera on the hall outside" You have a link to the feed of that video? "Nice try..." Ditto.

and we wonder why there's police officers being killed? and innocent people dying? we're all human, and humans should not have this kind of power unless they can be neutral and calm in ANY situation, furthermore, resisting arrest is ridiculously, it's a natural physiological response to flinch or recoil when you're in pain, there is no conscious control over that, it's involuntary. by the way this asshole had charges dropped, sadly. **lets stop hating each other and lets be better people**

@execrisiscoreonearth9 жыл бұрын
That's the difference between what's technical/theoretical, and what's done in practice/ what's practical. There are *tons* of laws they are expected to do, but the reality is they aren't robots and they're going to do whatever they feel works in the situation....that's what's actually *expected* of them, not nitpicking at the ideal scenario. I meant to say that a little differently, but in a nutshell, they rarely if ever get into actual trouble for not following smaller details like that. They know this, and avoid having to do the correct procedure like the other guy said. Short answer: don't expect those obligations to hold up in court on its own. Not in an everyday scenerio, even if there's video evidence.
@stevenwilkerson23729 жыл бұрын
BionicDance No they are literally supposed to tell you why they are arresting you. It is in the Constitution and its blatant. The Supreme Court has ruled multiple times on this but that is why they do not do things like this to people that have means. My father is a retired lawyer and his mentor and friend is a sitting federal court judge. I have an uncle that has political connections and a cousin that is a lawyer. If something like this happened to me I am pretty sure that officer would be resigning very quickly and offering a heartfelt apology. This is because I have means and even if I committed a crime they would probably drop the charges to make it go away.

Now this young woman is dead. Young women who are about to start a new job do not commit suicide. I'm a left-wing liberal but I can relate to conservatives when it comes to their concerns about many issues most liberals downplay. One thing I cannot, however, relate to conservatives with is the overwhelming consensus in the right wing that use of deadly force by policemen is always justified, no matter how blatantly unnecessary and deliberately murderous. Whenever I see these videos, the thing that makes my stomach revolt the most is not just the act in question itself, but the knowledge that a significant portion of the public will side with the murder.

Wrongly reported. The officer informed her that he'd stopped her, not for making a turn signal, but for failure to signal when changing lanes. When he took the u-turn to come after her, he had absolutely nothing on her whatsoever! He'd just come from a "warning" he'd issued, saw this lady and pulled a quick u-turn, pursuing her for no reason but only two that were possible== an out of state license, and the fact that she was black! The reason I know this? Because his only reason was "failure to signal changing lanes". Her only "crime" was disrespecting his request to put out her cigarette! And because, in the wake of his abuse, she said she couldn't wait to get him in court! I've never been so outraged in my life! The fact that she was killed (I fully believe she was murdered, because these subhumans knew that if she ever got them in court they'd lose and be sued for a lot of money. Did she impress you as someone who'd commit suicide? She couldn't wait to get them in court, so she hung herself? Her 'crime' was failure to signal, because, as she said, he was closing on her so fast and she took haste to move over! And this sleazy-poor excuse for a human being can slicker-down his story all he wants, as the facts are plain to see. I've never seen such an outrageous violation of humanity in the U.S. and I hope he's kicked off the force and does some serious jail time.
@stevegraham51248 жыл бұрын
Oh and btw, if you're wondering how I know what happened immediately before the stop, the longer dash-cam version showed him giving someone a warning and proceeding in the opposite direction, seeing Bland in her car going the opposite way, and immediately doing a u-turn, accelerating and closing on her, only to cite her for failure to signal a lane change as he closed quickly upon her. So before that, he had not a shred of a reason to stop her! She was black, simple as that! It's hard to relate the outrage I feel, to this day, for such an outrageous violation-- but there is a Judge and a Higher Court! One day, all will be made right-- and to that Judge, all of you who do so wickedly to others, you WILL answer to!

Steve Graham- maybe you should take another look at the longer version of the video, before you start spreading your crap. You would clearly see Sandra Bland, zipping around the corner, and blowing right through a stop sign, just before the cop did a u-turn and came after her. It looked pretty clear to me that this was the reason that he came after her in the first place. My take was that he was being nice, not even mentioning this, and just giving her a minor warning for the signal violation.
@thebugmon8 жыл бұрын
Steve Graham- Your an Idiot. You think they killed her to keep her from suing. That's beyond ridiculous.
