I make these up with the ready rice that requires no cooking. I also have powdered soy sauce that I picked up from Amazon. I have passed these out to the homeless in my area and they are appreciative. Even with no real way to cook, these can still be warmed over a campfire. Have not been able to find a substitute for pasta yet. Thanks for sharing your ideas!

Unfortunately we do not have a dollar tree here, but a few discount best before date stores. I am going to scoure them for cheap tinned items and make these kits. I love how down to earth you are. I thought you might like to know that I have used your emergency meal kits as a teaching tool in my classroom. I am an elementary special education teacher in a small town in Missouri. This year, I have been reading through the “Little House on the Prairie” books with my kids. We have watched your videos and compared how we eat and store food compared to how Laura describes food preparation and preservation during the late 1800’s. We’re talked about food shortages and preparedness in then versus now scenarios. I want my kids to know some practical things they could do if they needed to cook for themselves or if they wanted to make a simple meal some evening for their family, or that they could suggest to their parents if they knew they were low on funds. We’ve also used your videos to talk about comparing prices at the grocery store, food labels, nutrition, expiration dates, following a recipe, food safety-really quite a lot of things. They loved putting together kits and getting to cook and eat them. So this is pretty long, but I wanted to say thank you. You’ve inspired me to try something new this year, AND it was really fun and a hit with my kiddos!

I LOVE this so much!! All kids need to know this info for sure!!! Most people/kids think that food just comes from the grocery store...it just magically appears there!!! Thank you so much for this...I also used to work in a special needs classroom so I totally get it!!! Hands on practical experience is so needed!!

Love your videos lady! With my kits I also add bottled or canned water so that if the power is out I still have enough water to cook the rice, pasta whatever I need to use it for and that way I am not worrying about using the drinking water for meals and it is all together. I also put colored stickers on my bags for each month and year so that it is easy to tell when stuff is going to expire so I can use it up.

That's great advice. But you need quick ready to eat food that you don't need to cook also, in case you have no way to cook. In those ziplock bag you need to add a can opener, enough bottled water to make the meal, paper plates or bowls, napkins and silverwear, for each meal bag. So in case of an emergency you don't have to look for anything you need.
@yvonnepalmquist8676 Жыл бұрын
Since those are items that would be necessary for every meal, a lot of people do those type of items as its own separate emergency kit.

Also a good idea! When I was down with COVID in 2020, I was really sick but the kids were asymptomatic; they made it fine with what we had in the fridge and sandwiches, but they could have made simple meals also. That could work for you g adults moving out or going off to college too.

I make small single person meals like this for when Im out of the house but I occasionally hand them out to buskers. things like packets of tuna or chicken and a pack of DT crackers and a pack of cookies or a can of viennas with the little cheese and crackers packets, ready to eat rice and a can of DT spam. I also have several premade freeze dried or dehydrated meals in the truck chuck box, things like deconstructed cabbage roll soup, sloppy joe/chili, chili-mac, hashbrowns with sausage, onions and peppers all they need is hot water and some time to rehydrate. I have vdo on the sloppy joe, cabbage roll and american goulash called Me and TVP

Put mixture in a greased cake pan. Add crushed chips or crackers. Bake 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes. The last few minutes add the remaining 1/2 cup shredded cheese on top. I have been making those but using mostly dehydrated ingredients so I can put 2 cups of water and my contents into my 6-1 cooker and press a button for an easy meal. For fried rice I went with parboiled rice, soy sauce powder and dehydrated peas and minced onions. I do not have the dehydrated carrots because of some problems with my food storage. I can add a can of meat if I want. I did a burrito filling using dehydrated refried bean flakes, taco seasoning, dehydrated minced onions, dehydrated tomato flakes and dehydrated bell peppers. I have the ingredients set aside to make tortillas in pouches. For another, I have Lipton Cream of Chicken powder, canned chicken, and fideo cut pasta to make a chicken noodle. I have a packet of dehydrated mixed vegetables as a side. For another, I have Creamy Wheat, turbinado sugar and dehydrated fruit as a breakfast. In the past 2 weeks, I have had to go through my food storage as I have found some problems. I had bug infestations in my unopened sealed Augason Farms buckets. I had a mold problem in many of the sealed unopened #10 cans of freeze dried foods. I have others in my lineup. I am going at least 12 of every meal with some at 22 at most.
