I disagree with the comment about the person playing not being very good, that gameplay is MUCH different than the one from Frontiers and the one from Space Colony ARK we had back then He may not play like the Sonic Fans who are above the avarage casual player, but he's definetly playing really well, taking alternate paths like the ones by stomping on the ropes, boosting a lot more than the previous gameplays from SxSG and Frontiers, using Doom Blast and Chaos Control (both with the Chaos Control "Light Speed Dash" and freeze time ability) to show secret paths and collectables, using Chaos Spear and Doom Spear at the right time in the right enemies, etc. He's playing actually quite well

I feel the need to bring attention to the shortcut at 5:15, because I love it. You have to: 1. Get the chaos capsule 2. Use chaos control to stop the black glider thing 3. Use doom blast to warp up to a higher platform, this is the only way to get up there 4. Kill the enemies to fill chaos gauge again And then you skip like half the surf section with a chaos rail as a reward.

I think the way the Mach Speed Section from Kingdom Valley looks is fine, in fact, I like the way it looks, since Shadow's original Kingdom Valley didn't even had that section, that's something Shadow didn't even went through, but people really wanted to see it, so it's just like a reminder, a nod to those people who wanted that section, but without taking the idea from the level, showing the section in a more simplified way, no strong rain, quite small, short, etc. Of course, I would've loved to see it giant, open, with giant waves on both sides, a storm with lightning, Shadow running at full speed dodging falling debris, but I'm not mad at all by how it looks (and pls don't take this as if I'm just accepting mediocrity and don't like complains because I would just accept anything SEGA gives us, definetly have my critisisms regarding everything Sonic-related is just that I genuinely really think the section looks good the way it is)

About the end of Kingdom Valley, you can literally see several alternative pathways during it. Also pillars just kind of being there is probably the most normal thing to see in a Sonic game. And about Metal Overlord, Egg Dragoon in Gens played like that and that was probably the best boss in the game.

@@SFproductions1 In all fairness, not countin' '06's lack of character speed or Silver's gameplay segment, the level as a whole already looks like it's as long as the OG from beginning to end, & that's without considerin' the various paths. This final part is pretty much just the equivalent to the end of the SG Roofton Run level except this is more interactive but lacks the laser robot. There's no need to tack on an extra minute unnecessarily. There's levels that are too short like Forces & levels that can overstay their welcome like Heroes. This level's well balanced, designed & open as is.

Classic Sonic's segments of Generations levels did this too. Let's not point the finger entirely at Shadow Gens. A bunch of levels in Classic Generations after the Classic era felt kind of blocky in retrospect. Classic Seaside Hill. Classic Rooftop Run ( atleast at the beginning and during the bell tower interior. ) Classic Planet Wisp.

I think it is a remix of What I'm Made Of! Guitars seem different, Johnny's voice is pretty much the same tho, no new mixing. Also, hoping a 3rd Bossfight against Knight or Black Doom, and 3 or 4 rival fights, Sonic, Emerl, Mephiles and Infinite And this may be a stretch, but actually revamping cinematics, retconning Sonic's timeline with the Sonic Generations remaster, and adding a Lost World + Forces + Frontiers levels could be awesome. We could even see events from the comics or Sonic Prime as bosses. Imagine a rival fight against Nine, or a Surge one. Or we could get a bossfight against Supreme, the Giant Powered Zavok from IDW or even a Nightmare Eggman from Sonic Dream Team. And you could even add levels for classic Sonic, with a Mania + Superstars + some other classic game, even Sonic 4. And have a Trip or Fang rival fight, and a bossfight against the Heavy King. The potential of this game is absolutely endless.

I dont think every Act 1 will have a black doom section where he brings you to the city. there were several sources that played the full stage of kingdom valley and none of em mentioned that, GVG even said that there weren't as many cutscene cinematics as space colony ark and it was mostly gameplay. i do think there still will be more since that one bullet station image showed the black doom chase, but not here probably

It isn’t solely bad because of glitches. It’s bad because it’s just terribly designed. The characters are insufferably slow and not fun to play, and the levels are super long and boring as well. I’d rather play any level from SA1 and SA2 over all of the levels from 06, and I’m making that comparison because Sonic 06 is SA3 minus a Chao Garden. It’s why I’ll never understand how Sonic fans today will hate Sonic Forces but defend Sonic 06. Both games have dark stories that are poorly executed, both games have mostly boring, uninspired levels (most of 06’s gameplay, especially on Shadow and Silver’s side, is just killing waves of enemies with giant health bars to progress, and you don’t have a huge arsenal of moves, unlike the Werehog from Unleashed), and both games have botched formulas from previous games (Forces does the boost formula wrong, and 06 does the Adventure formula horribly wrong). What makes 06 a hundred times worse than Forces though are the parts that make the game not only boring but also rage-inducing and unplayable, like the Mach speed sections, the snowboarding sections, the Silver boss fight, the crumbling towers section, and the ball puzzle.

"It was longer" it was only 24 seconds longer, you jump across a couple platforms, run on a waterfall twice, jump off debris and you're done. "More cinematic" uh how? The camera never changes angle until you jump off debris which it always does and lasts like 3 seconds. "With Sonic jumping from pillars" he jumps from debris which he does in almost every mach speed section for again less than 3 seconds, stop over hyping this. It was barely any cooler than it is in Shadow Gens, the only thing really cool about it was running on a waterfall and the setting. And this game retains the setting but actually has the section be playable. "Slow straight line?" Did you even watch the gameplay, it is far from a straight line with a ton of other branching paths to take. You're tweaking.

Bro this one level is better than the entirety of Sonic Forces. Not saying much I know, but it's showing me we're on the right path. My biggest fear is if the actual release is somehow buggy, cuz that was super annoying in Frontiers with bugs and pop in, but I hope the more condensed levels made it easier to manage those issues. Honestly, this is the direction I would like the series to persue. The open world nature of Frontiers was neat, but the size clearly had drawbacks as they just threw in random rails everywhere. Having a wider emphasis in the level design allows us to keep the fast feeling while also keeping that exploration element, but not so bloated that it loses direction. If anyone has seen the prototype version of Windy Valley from Sa1, that is what the series should have been going for imo vs the long, but narrow hallways of the precious boost games, as it limits level design and abilities. Like that last section he mentioned in the video with the water is EXACTLY what they had been doing in boost games, just narrow hallways with limited 3d movement. Yeah it's fast, but the player doesn't have enough control in what happens, and it's just way too simplistic in comparison to the rest of the level we saw.

I really like how big this map of KV is. They took into account the amount of ground you can cover with a faster character and used the space for some alternate paths. This is gonna be the stage I’m gonna have the most fun revisiting with all the options it gives you. Although if I do have to nitpick something I’d have to be the visuals. The lighting is brighter than the cloudy and drearier atmosphere of the original and the mach speed section is missing the spectacle with the lightning storm and ruining on the water walls. It’s pretty short with just a quickstep section.

Well that last part was flat out wrong as it is darker than the original's lighting. It is even more cloudy and dreary looking than the original. You're lucky the mach speed section is here at all, Shadow shouldn't even have it. It's clearly just a reference to the end segment of Sonic's stage, it's not trying to be it or surpass it. Which wasn't even that good to begin with, yeah running on a waterfall was cool but that's about it. Everything else was just another jank speed section no one liked, here you can actually play it and there's way more to do than just quick step.

Considerin' the ending to the ORIGINAL Kingdom Valley was one of the worst, if not THE worst, mach speed sections in the game, I see this as a MASSIVE improvement. The breathtaking effect it had on me was sighs & groans of anger, animosity & frustration, especially considerin' I was goin' for all S Ranks. It's honestly a shock we even got this part seein' as neither Shadow nor Silver go there

That's like sayin' if a person dies in a game, despite fully completin' it, they're bad. I don't have to do these ballsack segments in one go for it to be no skill issue. These segments are trash, whether it takes 2 attempts or I beat 'em in 1 consistently, that opinion will never change. The most asinine part of it ALL, is that the entire level is literally pointless in Sonic & Silver's stories

I'm sure you've already noticed by now, but Metal Overlord speaks new lines during the battle. "Trying to use Chaos Control?! HAH! That power already belongs to ME!!" "Let's see how long you last on such unstable terrain!" "I am the king of all creation! Nobody can defeat me! Not you, not Sonic, not ANYONE!" "As if I could be challenged by an imposter like you!" I also like how he uses Chaos Control as you do, so you can't just catch up to him in an instant.

7:55 dude HELL no. Speedrunning levels with a cinematic like that interrupting every act 1 would suck. I’d much rather the full level, ESPECIALLY Kingdom Valley, be the same. Would you really want to see that city area that often, or have to deal with those cutscenes mid level? I’m fine with it being in maybe 3 levels total so it doesn’t overstay its welcome

@@chrange9714 Graphics in Sonic’s games has always been an important part since a huge part of the appeal of the game depends on that. This game so far has very huge problems related to graphics like the infamous yellow filter, extremely lucid surfaces even for rough wood and a lot more. Hope at least the gameplay won’t be all smoke

Haha "huge problems related to graphics?" Buddy this is the best looking Sonic game period. Absolutely nothing looks wrong with it graphically, there is zero yellow filter idk what you're looking at but you might want to see an eye doctor. Nor are the surfaces extremely lucid, rough rocks look as such and the same goes for other surfaces like wood. They look how they're supposed to in each setting, the gameplay already looks amazing and that coupled with the awesome visuals you couldn't be more factually incorrect. Nobody's playing these games to see how the water looks.

Yeesh, especially that last part with you whining about the Mach Speed Kingdom Valley bit. Goodness you people see a straight path in anything even when it has a bunch of alternate ones like that section did have and even if it's the last 20 seconds of a 5-6 minute level that is open af, y'all whine and complain about it being bland, unengaging, or whatever. Also idk why people like you think that if a certain past thing shows up that means it must be better than its original counterpart. Which Sonic 06's version of that looked cool, that's all it was otherwise it was another mach speed section nobody liked. And this also looks cool so on that alone it's matching the original but it's actually doesn't play like dog water this time lol. Guess not having Shadow run on a waterfall for a bit makes it infinitely worse despite it looking absolutely amazing with these structures surrounded by two giant waterfall walls. You're lucky that that section was even in the level as Shadow never had anything like that in 06, so it being here alone is clearly just referencing the original Kingdom Valley Sonic section. Also how is the player playing badly? They're playing great. What because they're not boosting every waking moment and actually exploring the open level which is very in line with the Adventure levels they're playing badly? No way, and the Metal Overlord boss fight looks awesome in every regard. The Egg Dragoon fight in base Gens is on rails and is one of the most praised fights in that game yet for some reason here, which is even more engaging than the base game Egg Dragoon fight, it's somehow a bad thing.

The Level Design looks pretty good, way better than Space Colony Ark Act 1. There are legitimate branching paths now and a lot more snappy quick reaction level design, this also confirms every level will be of good length. My only complaint is that they’re still very reliant on the Homing Attack instead of Actual Platforming and there are quite a few unnecessary Dash Panel automation. Shame the Waterfall section was so subdued compared to the original. No Sideways running on Water, Jumping from ruins, or Egg Gunners Chase, instead we just got some basic Boost Level Design.

It's funny how blatantly incorrect all of this is when there are multiple platforming sections not relying on the homing attack and there's absolutely zero instances of unnecessary dash panel automation. You're lucky the mach speed section is even in this level as Shadow shouldn't even have it. It's clearly just referencing it from Sonic's stage not trying to recreate it one to one or surpass it. Which the original one wasn't even all that, stop over hyping it. You ran on a waterfall which was cool but otherwise it was just another basic mach speed section. Jumping on debris was nothing unique to it as almost all of them had that to some capacity, same with the Egg Gunner chase. Plus here it actually plays well and there's way more than just "basic boost level design" with different paths.

Very True, even though the original had a lot of Homing Attacks it was different because it wasn’t so overpowered in that game. You had to get up close and maneuver the character towards your target instead of being able to homing attack from a mile away lol.

My take away is that they are trying to move away from the hand-holdey segments that fans despise, but there is still a lot to improve upon. I think the only real negative I could say is more so a problem on the engine they use which makes everything look like a fan made game.

@@chrange9714 Its still has linear bits of gameplay and from what we can see from said gameplay all of the alternative paths lead to the same end unlike Generations where you can take multiple different exits, and even if the same could be said for the main game, it is still something they should explore. Speaking of, that is one of the main things that I think Sega needs to try and implement, all the way back to Sonic 2 & 3 there were multiple routes into getting into either the special stages and endings which is rare or completely lost with the modern material. And no the hedgehog engine 2 makes it look like a fan game, compare it to the likes of Sonic Omens or any recent modern Sonic fangame and you'll see they are similar. As a game company you should be distinct from the fan market so customers know what is official and what isn't. Not to mention Generations and unleashed look better than what were getting, not to bash on the engine 2 too hard, but there is a distinct different between the 2 not to mention how restrictive it is with the likes of Forces and Frontiers. And like Frontiers, Sega needs to listen to fan feedback on the issues that still plague the game, as to not make the same mistakes in future installments. That being the lack of momentum, the restrictive feeling of mid-air movement not to mention the complete cancelation of speed when in mid-air and the rigged pop in of environmental elements.

@@dashyburrows You don't say, it's almost like every single Sonic game ever has linear bits of gameplay in it. That isn't an issue, it never was so don't even try to rack on that. Guess you didn't watch the gameplay cause no, many of the alternate paths do not lead to the same end. They lead to completely different areas for collectables and other items, some taking you to them or having another different section or combat area of enemies. Then if you keep going you tend to end up on the main path later down the line, Sonic levels have always been like this. Especially base Generations, it has completely different routes in like two levels throughout the whole game. Otherwise every Modern Sonic level has alternate paths that take you to a new area but back on the main path later. It doesn't have multiple different exits again other than twice or less, shows how you've never played the original game have you. What you're talking about is the Classic formula, not Modern game formula. Special stages and different endings are only in the classic games, that's their structure. The modern material doesn't need any of that to have good engaging levels with different paths and interesting level design, this stage alone shows that as if past Modern levels didn't do that already. And no, Hedgehog Engine 2 doesn't make anything look like a fangame whatsoever, that's complete bull. Haha comparing games made in the engine to stuff like Omens and any other Modern Sonic fangame is night and day. Fangames WISH they could ever look as good as this game does, the engine is vastly superior. The whole "looks like a fangame" thing is just stuff you toxic folk say whenever anything official comes out now, it has no meaning and is blatantly not true but y'all still spout it anyways for who knows why exactly. Everyone and their mom knows what's official and what isn't, they know that this game is official just from looking at it and it's been that way ever since HE2 was first being used. In fact it's actually people like you who are trying so hard to blur the line between fangames and official ones, not the game engine being used. So don't even try to give a lecture about "as a game company you should distinct from the fan market" they've BEEN doing that. You're delusional, Generations not Unleashed looked nearly as good as this does and people have even admitted that. No frickin kidding there's a distinction between the two, they're both made in entirely different engines they're gonna look different. And nothing about it was restrictive with Forces and Frontiers, Forces was restrictive cause of its gameplay not the engine used. Yes Sega needs to listen to PROPER fan feedback on actual problems, not the stuff you're making up and trying to label as problems. Thankfully they know the right things and people to listen to, you're not one of them. You're one of the worst people they could listen to but fortunately they never will. None of the things you've mentioned are "mistakes on the franchise that could continue in the future." There doesn't need to be momentum in Modern games for them to be good and there even is that in Shadow Gens. There is no restrictive feeling in air movement, you don't lose your speed in mid-air, and there is no pop in of anything.

idk how to explain it, these new games are just not hitting the same way. why is it that in adventure 2 and even 06, the characters seem fun to control, but here it seems like everything is kind of automated, in the sense that it gives the impression of being open, just because the hallway level design is a bit wider. It's like the illusion of choice, eveything looks too polished, and sonic and shadow's models look bulgy and expressionless and like fisher price. you can clearly see where they saved money, i'm a hard core yearner for a good new sonic game, but i am sorry to say this looks like it plays like Forces. With slightly wider hallways. The UI and sound effects are insulting, like HEY YOU HAVE A CHAOS CONTROL!!! LOOK WE EVEN OUTLINED THE FREAKIN CHARACTER!! and HEY YOU ARE LOCKED ON AND CAN HOMING ATTACK LOOK PRESS "A" NOW!! this does not even compare to the graphics of Generations, let alone Unleashed, i guess it's like the moon landing, apparently once they had the technology, but now for some reason they do not. i'll still buy it and probably enjoy it to some extent but man, Sonic (TM), where are you?
