These NEW Sony Headphones are by far my favorite pair that I've ever had the pleasure of listening to. But are the Sony XB950N1's worth UPGRADING. CKid looks wise i personally feel 950bt are cool than n1 and when coming to the app... i think i don't require the app what Sony is providing already there is Dolby Atmos app for my Lenovo Vibe x3 so not a problem for me though 😊

I bought the bt's today! Did not think it was worth to pay 100 more for the N (got my bt for 115euro). The red and black is gorgeous :) I upgraded from my skullcandy crusher wired.. Not sure which ones I prefer yet but one minor complaint is that sony doesn't get as loud. Not a real problem since I do not listen to music very loud anyway but something to keep in mind. My volume on sony is like on 80% , way higher than what I usually have it on.

Sound leakage is the sound that others can hear when you're wearing the headphones. They're obviously going to be loud if you're not covering the earcups.

I know I'm a little late to the comments, lol. The grille you see on the top of the cans are actually Bass ports. They intend it to work like a typical car audio subwoofer enclosure, so air can escape giving a tighter Bass response. I still enjoyed the review and it helped me out alot! I got the BT's for 35 bucks almost new, the sound quality compared with other headphones I've used is just crazy! The hype is well deserved for these beasts!

Great video! I think I won't be upgrading by know. Really curious about the app and the sound effects it can provide. Is the sound "more clear" or do they have better highs? The Bt's sound insane, but sometimes I loose detail at some songs, and not every electronic genre benefits from the bass feature. May be I'll save and go for the MDR-1000x. Also, for that price, one might expect a hard case.

Taking off the headphones and having the headphones on doesn't give the same sounleak. With the headphones on the music will guaranteely not leak much at all.

I have the old BT and many times when volume is at max ,I still need to increase the volume by 10 % but just cant. I tried apps and eqs but they dont help. just copped for 119$, I was at BB looking for some IEMS and there were some for 50$ then i saw these on sale....looked up a couple reviews, tested them out. And pulled the trigger. IMO solid and hard to act like anything "new" coming out are really going to improve on being solid bass cans, that actually get quite loud on BT. While also maintaining mids when plugged into my schiit stack, proving to be a solid gaming option for shooters and immersion. The app actually helps bc if im using them for my pc for a movie or game, i can on the fly dial back the bass depending on how bad the bass gets depending on how the game/movie is mixed since they will all differ bass wise. I know the NC isnt as good as the other flagship lines but at the price i got them at id say the 950n1's get the job done. IMO the sweet spot for HP deals are 50-119$. Just always keep an eye out for the deals. There are also a good amount of open or semi-open backed headphones at that price point. Which typically benefit from amp power(my lg phone has an amp in it w.o this the wired listening is quite lacking without a supplemented power source when connected via jack). BC the extra bass and NC is also applicable when connected directly. To those wondering if these will work on a pc or for console....youd definitely need an external amp or amp/dac combo. Of which ive already invested in. If i was considering a purchase for dual use id probably steer clear, also youd want to see if it works with bluetooth for gaming consoles etc(of which i dont own). BT it has "power" if you jack it to a device like a PC or console directly it will be lacking. I just wanted better performance outside of the "Lows" in a bass can option that performs where beats and crushers dont, im pretty sure the 950n1s are the cans. Especially on sale. Crushers would be cool too if you could dial back the bass with an app so you could use it with other gear etc. but a lil lever or etc would probably afffect the mids or highs too which is off putting to me.

Some useful information for yourself and anyway viewers... I've had the BT's since July 2015 and I got them for an absolute bargain (€135) in Dublin airport on my way to Toronto... Unfortunately, earlier this year the swivel mechanism of one of the cups broke - very easily. After some research, I found that A LOT of people are having this issue! I'm kinda fighting a losing battle, because I love the sound quality and comfort so much that I'd buy them again but the design is a let down and Sony's customer service is not great at all. You might have some luck getting them repaired if they break after 1 year but mine were after 2 years. To get it repaired, Sony will try and charge you almost the price of a new one - Postage fee, repair fee and even an INSPECTION fee... Very disappointed with Sony, I buy a lot of their products, especially audio.

That's a pressure release grill on the top. It's not a speaker, but yes it helps a little for sound to leak. I personally have BT's. My hinge also broke, but I dropped mine from the table. As a replacement (while I wait a replacement part from overseas) I bought B1 (they were cheaper than BT with shipping for some reason) and after finishing my purchase I found out that N1 exists.. :D I would have definitely added that extra 20EUR to get noise cancellation, but it's too late

TheSpike1 the sound leak on the N1's are definitely more than the sound leak on the BT's. If you are concerned about the sound leak I would lean more towards the BT's. But I would purchase the B1's instead this way you still get the updated version for the same cost of the older BT model.

Bass wise yes they are the same. Not sure why they named it differently but to the average listening ear there is no difference. The app is a little more useful than you make it out to be, especially compared to the BT's version. All you can do there is massive bass boost, or none. The N1(and B1)'s version allows you to go from OEM boost to +10, or even down to -10 if it's a genre that doesn't warrant as much bass as these will give you.

No, its true, the drivers in the BT's are just better than the newer models. If you want the best sounding headphones, get the regular BT's.. I had the BT's and they were much louder than the newer model I recently bought. Mind that this is when in bluetooth mode, max volume, with hass boost on with both models. The BT's are the louder, more lively, bassy pair.

G14 I had the sony mdr xb950bts. I tested how loud they were by putting em on max volume face up and walk away from them untill I couldnt hear them anymore. I did the same with the N1's and it took less distance traveled away from them to not hear them anymore. Thus means the BT's must be louder. And yes, both headphones were max volume too. Not just max volume on phone too.

I had the BT's before and sent them back. the bass was just too much and you couldn't control it. Now that they have an app it may be worth it... but maybe not. I got the v-Moda crossfade wireless and the bass is not enough...lol!!! so I'm in the market for bass headphones again. XelaBackwardsX2 the B1's do not have noise cancellation like the N1's. If your looking to drown out ambient noises like small surrounding chatter or fridge noise, air vent noise then it is great for that. But it will not drown out complete music that is playing around you but i think if you have your music playing with the active noise cancelling on with a solid volume then I think you won't be bothered with surrounding music. But in your case you are gonna want the N1's.

The B1's are going to be a little bit better option for you than the BT's. I would only upgrade to the B1's if you do not already own the BT's. For movies these headphones are awesome. Trust me on this, my bt has cracked on the joints, both of them exactly after 2 years... coincidence maybe....and support service claimed it was manually damaged....for cry out loud.... it has been just in my bag.....

I enjoy working with a fan but the Sony MDR-XB950N1 makes it sound like I am on a motorcycle at 60mph. Furthermore, the headphones hurt my ears if I wear them too long and fall forwards and backwards too. Guess I have to spend the extra for the Bose.

Kennedy Leon yes it has a mic on it for calling purposes. Which I have used a couple times while skateboarding. I'm all about that hands free life. 😎

Kennedy Leon yep the N1's have Noise Cancellation to block out ambient noise. The mic is really good on these.

The B1 is the updated version of the BT. Mainly the only difference is a little better sound and access to the Sony Headphones Connect App.

lord knows yea to me the B1's are going to be a much better option than the skull candy crushers. Skull candys are alright but don't match up with the Sony B1's, BT's or the N1's

I purchased refurbished BT for $89.99 +tax from walmart that are in perfect condition. The B1 also has 2 hours less battery so you could buy 2 BT for less money than either B1 or N1.
