Its amazing to see the size of the crowds and theres not much seating undercover. All out in the open, hot aussie summer, struth! The quality of tennis was elite and entertaining and it drew the crowds in as well as keep popularising the game in Australia and keep the aussie tennis machine producing champions.

This win for Hoad initiated his prime period of greatness from 1956 to 1961. Hoad's greatest achievements as a professional have been largely unknown until recently.

@@SearchBucket2 His greatest wins were largely hidden from public view, the pro game was played behind closed doors. For example, Hoad won the No. 1 point ranking for 1959, but that was never reported in North American newspapers.

This would be Nov 1955 as the NSW Championships were played at that time, i can remember this match on the radio .TW

tom williams Thanks Tom. I don't understand why British Movietone can't provide this information. Surely it is written on the can? British Pathe is even worse at this, as they frequently provide _incorrect_ information.
