As you're working on the sound, keep in mind that a significant portion of the car's sound comes from the intakes. At higher revs the trumpets actually function much like organ pipes, and can contribute a bit of a "wail" to the sound. Car companies make efforts to control this sound due to the contribution to the car's noise. You might want to see if there are any baffles in the airbox or tubing leading up to it. You also might want to test it without the airbox or lid if you can do it while retaining the filters. I wouldn't be comfortable test driving without filters and airbox, but the choice is yours.

Always enjoy your videos, the real world!! I like the way you are not just going to accept the sound the way it is and are keeping going until you have the result you want!! One thing to consider is the fact that you have a 2 valve per cyl engine and they always sound different at hight rpm than a 4 valve per cyl engine, add the induction noise from the carbs and you’re always going to have that throaty, offbeat sound. However, you need an X balanced arrangement to get that sound you’re after, so a single pipe will never be an option for you, plus 4 pipes looks way more cool!! Can’t wait to see your collaboration with Scott’s channel......nice episode and can’t wait for the next one!!

Nice to see the Influenzo drives so well now. Love the channel. With that rear panel above the exhaust tips. Don't fibre glass over it when it's metal. Leave the single exhaust shape there as it goes deep over the left exhaust pipes. Just weld in a metal filler panel to make it smooth. Then you can always go back to original if you like. With a Ferrari one shouldn't go for cheap fibre glass bondo fixes.

3D printing to fill the gap where exhaust was, then red vinyl wrap over the whole width of valance. They would scan the valance and make a piece that fits perfectly. They could perhaps add a couple of clips to hold it in place, or even just use double sided tape. The vinyl will add to the adhesion so it wouldn’t take much

I would cut the the valance to cleanly fit around the exhaust with about 3/8” (10mm) clearance to avoid burning it. Or if you want to keep original parts for a potential resell of the car try to source another rear valance and cut that one. Another, out there option, is the make a mold of the original and cast a new from that to fit around the pipes. I recently did that on a RS6 that had the pipes just shy of touching after fitting a custom exhaust - straight-pipes with 3” (7.6cm) pipes.

Just a thought about filling that exhaust cutout. You could have someone 3d print a plug for it, with a heat resistant filament like ABS. In order to do this you would probably want to create a mold of the section you want to fill with clay or something, then someone who does 3d printing for a living could create a drawing from that which would be easily converted into a file for printing the part. It would certainly need to be painted, then attached. What the best "glue" would be is beyond my knowledge.

Well done with the series! Regarding filling the half moon, what about making in fibreglass a half moon fill price that can be fitted and removed. It would look more OEM like many cars that have plastic round caps that cover things like tow hooks etc. Maybe a nicer engineering method, but pricier option would be to get someone to scan the half moon and then make something via 3D printing. You could then bolt it in from underneath not see the bolts from the back of the car.

I've been following your 308 with interest. I've been on a similar journey since early last year. Always something to fix ... but that's any old car it's just a little harder on a mid-engined Italian ride. I'm running a magnaflow muffler. Its got the low down rumble and the high end bark you are after. Only difference is that mine is on a QV. But just be aware the bark can get a little tedious on long drives! As for the exhaust cut out, I'd make a piece out of fibreglass and attach it with screws from behind.

A suggestion for filling in that gap in the valance, you could get something 3D printed to fill the hole. The issue is I don't know how you can get anything to sit flush without putting a skim of filler over it, but that's semi-permanent which you don't want. All I can think of would be to put the 3D printed piece, and then vinyl wrap the valance.

howdy....still adore the GTS - shame about the new quad not performing as it should.... The Ansa popped and crackled on the over-run and was alive :) - Great that your exhaust chum is going to work on a custom 'tuned' exhaust - exciting -- meanwhile you really need to modify the induction so that you can hear more of the carbs - that will give more of the multi-cylinder sound you seek :) I would modify the rear valance and create proper quad outlet tunnels that allow for More of an up-kick, not less - Pantera style - always ;looks better - very excited for you...just wish there was a viable / affordable exact replica component car option.... :) Why not use your electronic stethoscope and place mikes in and around induction air box and induction trunking to get an idea where it can be best enhanced - 8 barrel webbers have to sound great, even on a flat plane Induction sound is always a classier way of enhancing character - loud exhausts can seriously 'cheapen' an exotic If you like what you hear, then source a quality guitar pick up or similar and route output through stereo / fit v hi flow rate air filter and a secondary induction hose nearer your ear :) Other tuned flat planes to listen to incl the Cerbera 4.5 (pref Red Rose) with carbon induction pipes which make most of sound - a custom carbon induction box is another option...

You could consider going '308 retro' on the rear panel and actually cutting it out across the middle - from memory that was the was the original fibreglass vetroresina cars were made. The whole exhaust was exposed at the rear rather than the valence covering it. Or maybe look for a US spec rear valence?

Stainless steel usually sounds less meaty and more tinny at higher rpms, it's really not about sound but about long term durability. Frankly, mild steel usually sounds better. With the solid mounting points so close to the rear, I wouldn't think there would be too much vibration at the tips but better safe than sorry. I hope the custom exhaust gives you the sound you are looking for. It doesn't quite have that "Ferrari" sound I was expecting from the custom exhaust either. It would be nice if they could get that sound and pump it out of a single pipe so you don't have to chase for another solution for another problem.

NICE Job! I cant believe I had to watch 6 minutes to find out if you got rid of your whistle! Honestly, all sounds good. I will be interested in if your buddy can build a screaming exhaust. My tubi definitely screams but you will pay for it all around with a louder sound.

Ha!! Glad you were similarly obsessed with the whistle!! I hated it!!

Perhaps instead of filling the rear valance you could apply a black decal on the other side to even it up, bit of a bodge but if it doesn’t work you could just remove and go back to plan A

I like the sound, not too much and does sound a little more open.

Have you considered an electric cutout? They can be partially opened top get a different sound from wide open or completely closed.

I think i know what sound you're looking for...the sound the Ferrari makes in the movie" The Gumball Rally ". Now that is what a Ferrari should sound like.

Iain Tyrell is god, really worth to see special man, regardless of expense, do it right, or not at all, to regain the unique Ferrari sound & enjoyment! Food for thought & a lovely 308! R

Stick a reflector across the hole. Put one the other side too for symmetry.

Sounds a lot better but no scream. You'll get there, and at least we get more videos. Thanks

Thanks for the upload. They're such a great looking car. I would just move the auxiliary fog light over (or add another) to simply obscure the exhaust cut out in the rear valance. I'd keep the dual pipe look, as per the GTS and Ansa systems.

The high pitched whine from a flat plane crank V8 is worth striving for and I can completely appreciate your slight disappointment in not achieving this yet and look forward to hearing the outcome of a custom exhaust. No PJ's in this video? Has Magnum PJ died? :)

I know buddy.. I only realised when people commented. Unforgivable lapse on the PJs!!
