I just bought and took this to the range. If you are taking 1 shot at a time you probably won't notice much difference. But doing double tap it was very good. This is my new carry gun.

I had the same issue with the same pistol. However, I did not blame the pistol. I took off my red dot, used iron sights and grabbed a bag rest. Some time had passed from me mounting the optic and shooting the gun. I forgot I quickly did the mounting without torquing the screws and did not use Loctite. After doing this, the pistol was absolutely spot on. It is one of my most accurate pistols. I have several Glock 19s, 17s with various barrels from Wilson Combat, CMC, and Radian. It is as accurate as these ‘match’ barrels.

Gotta really shoot the gun without a red dot as much as possible before claiming the pistol is not accurate….and when you decide to put on a red dot also make sure the red dot is not damaged and abused and then blame the pistol….very irresistible to blame the pistol when it’s the shooter and the accessories are damaged or not secured and installed properly. But it’s good to know you actually know what happened instead of blaming the pistol like this review is implying. And those here that believe this is not an accurate pistol, gotta get all the information and additional research before determining so….

Not to beat a dead horse here, but Blazer (and I believe at least some Federal) has a warning on the box not to run it out of comped/ported barrels due to the fact that they have a thin plating on their rounds rather than a traditional FMJ (despite being marked as FMJ) and that plating can come loose and create spalling from ports/comps. I'm by no means an expert, but I'd have to imagine that process of the plating coming off and flying out of the port/comp could also effect the trajectory of the round. Worth trying running a true FMJ round (magtech, S&B, FIocchi etc) and seeing if that fixes the fliers.

I have to agree with the majority of the comments. You are bashing the Springfield Echelon Comp without verifying the zero on your RDS. Rule #1 always verify the zero. I would strongly disagree that it was the gun. I own the Echelon Comp and have had zero issues. For me, the grip angle is perfect, as I shot Glocks for decades. The Echelon Comp is an outstanding system.

It's easy to have accuracy problems with ported guns (this in-barrel comp is basically a port) with ammo that has thin copper plating. The plating gets destroyed and the bullet goes anywhere. With ported guns, use thick plated or even better real FMJ bullets.

Your reviews are, bottom line, the best out there! I'm surprised at the problems you had. My Echelon Comp is as accurate as my standard model, although I am only using iron sights. I have been using up my supply of Federal Champion FMJ 115 grain without an issue, and I have experienced no sticking with the magazine release either. It is all around a great firearm.

Ive got the threaded barrel echelon and the echelon comp and for me personally the comp is just a way better shooter. I usually dont care for comps much but this one is way smoother which leads to better accuracy for me personally. Cant wait to try the compact echelon!

When the Echelon first came out I bought one and had the same problem with mine. It shot like 💩 with or without a red dot and with many types of ammo. Took it back to my dealer and they sent it back to Springfield Armory. Got it back and they said it was the sights that were the problem. Bull but I will say whatever they did to it made it shoot like a champ. From what I can tell they switched out the barrel.

I’ve had the same issue that HonestOutlaw was having. Shooting past 35+ yards are just fliers. I could not hit a 18” steel target at 40 yards away. Dumped around 2 mags trying to hit it and still didn’t hit it. I thought it might have been my dot so I used the iron sights and still nothing. Tried different ammo (124-115) and still nothing. Tried some 124+p hsts and did hit it a couple times but still had some fliers. Will go back to the range with different brand ammo and test again

owned my echelon for a little over a year 3000+ rounds before i sold it for something else, i found the irons hard to shoot with compared to other irons and the trigger felt like mushy trash after awhile. one thing is for sure, I didnt have to clear a single malfunction my entire time owning it.

Might be the gun, but ... 1) Try better ammo since you're shooting out of a ported barrel. 2) Re-mount or change the optic. Isn't that the optic that was on your torture tested gun? Not sure if the mounting or optic itself can be trusted after that. 3) Check the inside of the barrel at the port, it is possible there is a burr from manufacturing there. Can use a camera to visually inspect or a q-tip to to check by feel.

Something to consider wrt the effectiveness of the compensator -- with standard pressure loads (115 and 124) I didn't notice much difference, but when I shot 124gr NATO spec loads the effect was more readily discernible.

So, I remember y'all having a similar problem with the Prodigy Comp. An inherent issue with ports, which is what these integrated comps essentially are, is that they will strip off bits of jacket from your bullets. Which is also why ports are kinda iffy for carry, if you fire in the wrong position they can spray shrapnel into you. Because these ports are right at the end of the barrel, there's nowhere near enough rifling in them to restabilize the bullet, which means they need to be counterbored instead so they don't destabilize the bullets. So I wonder if these springfield guns aren't being properly counterbored. It would explain why they seem to have accuracy issues, if the comp is stripping off bits of jacket and destabilizing your round

Many will say that comps reduce accuracy. Have you done accuracy, testing with like guns, comped versus uncomped. Sounds like a video. I’m new to comps but I’ve heard comps are great for slapping steel but for accuracy and groups uncomped is the way to go, your thoughts.

This has gotta be something going on with the RCR… wasn’t that particular one the same sight on the tortured Echelon? Perhaps after all the abuse it sustained it has some sort of internal issue leading to a shift in zero after a number of rounds fired? please Please PLEASE revisit this Echelon Comp with just the irons and then mount a different dot sight on the slide to zero on the pistol before reevaluating the gun? I really feel like the torture tested optic added an X factor that did not need to be there. Perhaps throw the SRO or the vortex defender on there when you take it out again. I have the vortex defender on my echelon with the patriot cnc comp and it is super accurate. I know that’s not the same as the comp edition but it should be pretty similar.

Its like he always says, using red dots creates multiple failure points you need to be aware of and checking for issues. Its a little hasty to assess the gun based on accuracy when it could be influenced by the optic. Then again, this gun was designed and marketed to run with an optic so, maybe this is more an indictment of optics as a whole rather than the echelon comp

I have 3 pistols. A shield plus, echolon, g3c. Now I don't know how to shoot very well, but my echolon is on point, g3c second and shield third.. However I like the feel of the shield. I'll practice some more. But the echolon is extremely accurate, my g3c second with the shield flying 3rd. But I prefer shooting the shield over the g3c even though I'm not as accurate. I have an echelon comp and a hellcat pro comp and I’ve become pretty accurate with my hellcat pro and even more so with my echelon comp. Like just noticeably better to show the textbook difference between a compact vs full size firearm. I do agree though I don’t know if I liked the factory backstab and I switched it out with one of the others and got a better feel. Dont know what’s going on here but I can’t relate to the vid!

That’s why I don’t buy ported guns especially new ones. The porting if done wrong could mess up your accuracy especially with certain types of ammo. I’d get just the regular Echelon honestly.

this barrel is back board at the tip. The riffling ends before the port. I have the hellcat comp and the prodigy comp.. they are all built the same. What you’re saying is true but in this situation it doesn’t apply… he also is using the wrong ammo. Blazer is not good for comps or ports. And that optic must be loose or out of zero it was pretty banged up.. I totally could be wrong. Just my opinion

After owning the Smith Metal Carry Comp(fantastic pistol) which I just sold, I would rather run the radian ramjet instead of rolling with a built in compensator but I have also come to the conclusion that compensators are not for me. I do not mind the recoil and think that using these in self defense situations might be poor judgement. Thank you for the review and keep up the great work!

Porting is actually a hole or holes in the barrel and comping is usually in the form of screwing on a compensator to the end of the barrel, therefor no hole in the barrel itself. Porting barrels can cause dispersion issues. I see a lot of people trying to defend the gun immediately and not considering the fact that it might have just been a QC failure. It happens...and it's part of why I prefer comps to porting.

Yeah. Maybe time to remove a variable. Different Dot or go Irons with CCI Blazer 124 FMJ and then you might pull a Bill Murray from Caddy Shack - "It's in the hole."

@@nowsellable8740 it very well could be the blazer (and federal) itself. Both are plated (though sold as FMJ) and both have warning on the box that you shouldn't use them in ported/comped guns. The plating can create spall that gets thrown back at you, and that process of the plating coming off the round as it's fired could also effect the trajectory.

@@Andrew_182 Hi Andrew. You could be correct but to be honest I do not think I have ever had a CCI 124 Grain Brass Case ever fail through anything I put it through. I just grabbed a box but my eyes suck at 50 years old so I can't verify the warning you mentioned. I put it through my new S&W Compact Ported recently and everything ran flawlessly and balls to wall accurate. However, my main point is just change up the red dot and ammo to rule some things out as I believe the Dot he was using was dragged through mud. Thank you for your comments.

@@nowsellable8740 oh i agree with you they should swap/remove the dot to remove a variable. I was just saying it could also be down to the ammo itself as well. A couple variables to look at before blaming the gun itself.

I think the issue is with the barrel comp. Perhaps its too big and comping a barrel is a delicate balancing act. I looked at one of these at my LGS a couple days ago and noticed how big it was.

Be aware that you CAN induce a malfunction in the Echelon 4.0 C by overinserting a mag made for a full size model. It seems like a good platform for the range but not something I would consider for defensive purposes.

My full size Echelon is very accurate to the point I had a wtf moment last time at the range!

Could be his optic that has been tortured on the last Echelon it was mounted to that's causing accuracy issues. Or it could be bad machining or threads on the slide causing the optic to shift slightly. Not a good idea to test accuracy with an added point of potential failure.

This comment section has been enlightening and extremely confusing at the same time. I've been shooting Blazer Brass through an M&P Metal Spec with the comp and the Sig AXG Legion with the slide comp all year without the slightest clue because I didn't read the box. Okay, my bad, I guess Blazer Brass is out going forward with those guns. But I've seen the Honest Outlaw shooting thousands of rounds of Blazer through about 20 various comped guns this year at up to 120 yards without any problems. . .So, yeah, I don't know!

Really a bad review and effort, please don’t turn into a 2011 snob and get lazy on what most guys can carry and afford, not your best effort. Best outside range I shot at had astroturf instead of concrete, no broken mags and not bad when dropping down on a knee or prone

I had serious accuracy issues with mine. Red dot bench rested it with 5 types of ammo. Thing shot high left with them all - off the target. Was okay within 10 yard but past that accuracy was wildy off. Took the dot off and same thing. Had buddies shoot it and same thing. Sent it to Springfield and they kept it for a month and sent it back and told me it was fine...it wasn't. I sent them a detailed list of the ammo I used, ranges, and picture of the targets. They stopped responding to my emails. Ended up selling it at a loss. Don't buy one of these if you plan on shooting past 10 yards.

I have the same pistol. Love the ergos and mounting system and the fcu. However I went out with some Herters ammo today and it was throwing flyers everywhere. I hadn’t experienced that with the other ammo I’ve used (s&b fmj , Norma fmj and sig hp). I didn’t notice any egregious flyers like today. Also after shooting the Herters I did notice a ton of lead residue ( shot 250 today). So I’m hoping it was just that ammo. But now seeing that you had a similar experience I’m a little more worried 😬
