This was the comparison I was looking for! By the way, I see there's a new "horizontal" edition coming out in September (IV-VI) and November (I-III), priced $70 each volume. Are these going to be a sort of middle ground between the 40 edition and the XXL...? Maybe same pages/content of the XXL, but with slightly smaller size?

The Trade Ed Eps IV-VI book is out later this year. The Trade Ed Eps I-III book will probably be out next year. They are exactly the same as the XXL books but a smaller page size.

I own both versions. I don't know why I watched the video, but it's just so great looking at the imagery. The full version is overwhelming. Many of the page spreads are just amazing. Its a visual feast. Having the smaller version is great when you just want to read the text as you can easily hold the book.

Will the archive books ever be turned into e books with behind the scenes footage and deleted scenes

No, this will not happen. TASCHEN did digital books in the past, but they did not work. Technically, it was too difficult with rights, clearances, different platforms, and technology going out of date. Also, it is prohibitively expensive for no real return. Books are the perfect format for words and picture.

Was beyond my price range too which is such a shame as the XXL version looks sublime, and even if I could I would've struggled to accommodate it on my bookshelves (I'd have had a good go though!) I ordered the smaller version of both the prequal and original trilogy and looking forward to diving in and having a good read.

Hi Paul, just to clarify in the 40th editions the text that was cut in both editions was the opening chapters (special editions & George Lucas Early Years), the appendices and bibliographies and the captions that went with the deleted images? The chapters text on each film is exactly the same for all editions?

I really enjoyed your video! Except for the first chapter, would you say that the text are pretty much the same between the two books?

Yes. Also there are 700 fewer captions, and there is additional info in the captions that is not in the main text.

Happy to hear that you enjoyed the books. It would be great to do a ST book, but no plans for this at the moment.
