This is genius. You're a genius. Fantastic seeing it all put together. Also, was Eunice Gayson dubbed in the film, and is that her natural voice in the trailer, or was it the other way round?

The first Bond movie I saw in the theaters was From Russia With Love. my dad took me to see subsequent Bond movies until I was old enough to go on my own. I was 4 or 5 when I saw FRWL. I saw Dr. No later. Connery is the best and my favorite Bond. What I love about his movies is the intrigue, suspense and believability that later entries in the series kind of pushed to the limit (the believability aspect). This was really interesting. I had no idea that Connery did a voice over narration sharing thoughts and so on. Fascinating. Is this available?

Yes, me too. We had to replace the main mic at the last minute. We found out afterwards that when we switched to the overhead camera, its microphone hijacked the audio. Doing these things is always a learning experience...

It was great Livestream, Paul. I found it very interesting. Hope to see more like this from you in the future 👍👍 I worded my second comment incorrectly. I was trying to make the point that your Dr No book is a great publication and just as good as your James Bond Archives book.

@@richardmartins1541 When this came out in the early 60's it was only at one outdoor theater in the town I lived in. So myself and three other young boys then, gave an older teenage with a car money to take us to see it. When it was over, he gave all our money back after saying it was the best movie he had ever seen. Thanking us for talking him into going.

The unsung heroines of many films are the script supervisors. They are the source of these take-by-taken notes -- they were the history of the filming on set to guide film editors long after the locations were history and the sets had been dismantled.

❤ I was a 10 year old intern at school when they showed Dr. No at the end of the year, and the world seemed suddenly turn from black and white to color... The year was 1964 and the place was Jounieh, a coastal town of Lebanon. Later, when every Bond movie came out in Beirut downtown, classes where empty in the afternoon 😅😅😊 ....❤from Montreal

Thanks for that, never seen a video analysis of Dr No before, its one of my fave Bond films, not least cos its the original. I dont think it gets enough love, everyone just goes straight to Goldfinger which I found too over the top personally and nonsensical in parts. Dr No is as much a 60s spy thriller as it is a Bond film.

This was the comparison I was looking for! By the way, I see there's a new "horizontal" edition coming out in September (IV-VI) and November (I-III), priced $70 each volume. Are these going to be a sort of middle ground between the 40 edition and the XXL...? Maybe same pages/content of the XXL, but with slightly smaller size?
@wordsmithpdАй бұрын
The Trade Ed Eps IV-VI book is out later this year. The Trade Ed Eps I-III book will probably be out next year. They are exactly the same as the XXL books but a smaller page size.

I own both versions. I don't know why I watched the video, but it's just so great looking at the imagery. The full version is overwhelming. Many of the page spreads are just amazing. Its a visual feast. Having the smaller version is great when you just want to read the text as you can easily hold the book.

Should you ever SAIL into the "PERCY HILTON" on Middle Percy in Australia... you'll find 2 Signs in the A-frame hut...1 Labeled "Dr. NO" and the second one beneath it "KOKOMO". A tribute to Sean Connery...who was an invited guest on KOKOMO (118 sailboat).

The only real Bond. I think the 60s era had a lot to do with it. However Connery was brilliant in the role.

My dad took me to see several of the Sean Connery Bond films. I was 7 years old when this one came out. It goes without saying that he was the greatest Bond of all. I later had a neighbor who was a retired Royal Navy Lieutenant Commander in naval intelligence who actually knew Ian Fleming, who of course was also in naval intelligence. It’s a small world.

I don't know if Polanski's version is the best (I think Francesca Annis is badly miscast as Lady Macbeth), but it is certainly the easiest to understand and probably speaks most powerfully to a contemporary audience. The scuttled ending owes more to Jan Kott, who reinterpreted Shakespeare's plays through the modernist prism of Samuel Beckett. Peter Brook's "King Lear" is a Jan Kott interpretation of the play, which reimagines "Lear" as a variation on Beckett's "Endgame". Polanski's Macbeth and Banquo encountering the witches on the heath might be Beckett's Vladimir and Estragon wandering a country road. In my opinion, "Throne of Blood" has the most impressive Lady Macbeth and Birnham Wood scene. On the other hand, Polanski's set piece of the prophecy glimpsed in the witches' cauldron is the best scene of any "Macbeth" movie.
