very nice idea with the camera mounts. love the "mounting and dismounting is not exactly quick" *proceeds to to do both in less than 5 secs* 🤣😂

It isn’t usually quite that quick, since it usually takes a couple of attempts to get everything lined up 😂

Thanks for the video. I've just got the Dishy (the smaller one) on my sailboat and it works pretty good. I pay the extra $25/month so I can change locations (So $135 total). Last week I sailed from the coast to and around Anacapa Island and back and had a strong Starlink signal the whole time. In my slip in Oxnard I get between about 40 and 100 mps. My dock neighbor has the cellular phone internet plan (wireless of course) which costs less and gets about 300 mps I don't think he gets a signal underway or out at the Channel Islands. 40mps is generally more then enough to get HD Amazon streaming.
@RevereOverland2 жыл бұрын
I'd love to get the smaller one strapped to the roof of my truck to compare the performance on a fast moving vehicle. I'm not convinced the big one is worth the extra money!

How was your video (streaming) AND audio (VoIP call) quality? Do you think you could use it to work from the boat offshore (Google drive access, Skype etc call)? THANKS!
@WillN2Go1 Жыл бұрын
@@justsomeguy2943 Hi just some guy. Works great. I have a 4K Apple TV box and a new 4k HD TV. Streaming is no problem. My connect speeds are usually below 100 mbps, sometimes as low as about 35, but everything still works. (& I've gotten over 200 as well.) Even though docked in the slip I get 5G on my iPhone, I always connect via WiFi , always more reliable. (Latency is minimal. I don't even think about it, but it's there.) I've used it under sail (6 - 7 knots but only my phone) and at anchor in the Channel Islands (about 15 nM from shore. Where I got 250mbps!) it worked well. Information is really hard to come by, best practice is to find someone doing what you want to do who already has it. I've video conferenced out at the Channel Islands and the only problem was the Google software/connect. I also have a MacBook computer.

My 2cents from a full-timer and 7 months on the road, and id say the original dish is great and more versatile. (we don't need to use the internet moving.) Can't justify the $2500 rather save it for fuel lol But this is an excellent video for those who need moving internet!

You definitely use it more than we do! Part of me wished I'd saved the money and just modified the original dish. I'd definitely like to test it out to compare.

I'll probably be doing it for the solar panel I'm adding too, for exactly the same reason I did it with the Starlink dish!
@jeepncj72 жыл бұрын
Yeah it's a great idea. I have seen folks also convert the mc4 plugs for solar to a regular 3 prong extension cord (just using neutral/line) for quick deployment away from the vehicle (and have an extension cord that is dual purpose).

If it didn’t consume a lot more power I think I’d consider it over the regular dish I bought yesterday … was tempted to exchange until I googled the power draw. Id have to spend even more to upgrade my power system to be off grid lol. I do want a permanent flat mount though and don’t trust myself to diy so it’s stressing me out figuring out what to do 🤔do you think if you hadn’t gotten it you would’ve tried to convert the standard yourself?

I'm considering the on the move internet just because its permanently mounted to my semi truck, I would only need it for a Roku TV, PS5, and a laptop. Im not a team driver, so primary use would be when stopped. Do you think the "while driving " system would be the best system as its permanently mounted? Or is the cheaper on the go system also able to be permanently mounted as well as i only need it for when i stop? Also, i know Roku TV as well as the PS5 use alot of Streaming Data, is the plan Unlimited Data? Or restricted to a certain amount of Data?

Everlander did an excellent video which you have prolly already seen. Goes to show that even Dishy can pick up plenty of internet while mobile, even under tree canopies BUT Starlink small print says it's a no - no for dishy to go more than zero mph while connected. Has anyone ever been booted off Starlink for doing that? Never heard of one yet.
