They should work out an integration with game devs that take advantage of the analogue mechanic letting the linear actuation make gradual inputs. It's being done with other peripherals, but that would make this much more appealing. Press lightly, roll a plane slower, or walk instead of run. It's nice to see steelseries finally come up with something practical and not so gimmicky though. I hope they modernize their mice next. I want a lightweight sensei with a flexible cable (or wireless).

I was seriously considering buying this keyboard until I saw your review. As someone with only one hand (missing my right palm), I rely heavily on the arrow and Num Lock keys for gaming in titles like CSGO and PUBG. I've always customized my setup, using my left hand for the mouse and my right hand for the keyboard. Your video was an eye-opener when you mentioned that not all the keys are the same, with only 60 of them being OmniPoint. While I understand the reasoning behind this design choice, it doesn't quite cater to my specific needs. Thanks to your in-depth review, I've decided to reconsider my options. I truly appreciate your attention to detail, as it has helped me make a more informed decision.

8:16 I can vouch for that. I know several custom mechanical keyboard nerds out there, (myself included), that would probably argue, "well I can surely build something better which would feel smoother, produce better sound and work just as well as this. Mass-produced and very expensive, nope.". Well, I've built several mechanical high-end keyboards during the past couple of years. I got to try this one out in my local electronics store, and boy, these switches are SMOOTH. Keep in mind, building your own mechanical keyboard is more directed towards the hobby part of it, rather than mimicking a classical (even premium) gaming keyboard. Premium keyboards which are custom made usually culminate in two factors; Feel or sound. You can have both, but for most people, they'll settle for either one. Having in mind the pricetag of a custom made keyboard (mine ended up at around 900 usd), these usually do not end up fully satisfactory in regard of gaming standards. They can, sure.. but then again, at what cost? These OmniPoint switches are extremely smooth to the touch. I mean, there's literally no scratch to them. And upon pressing the keys, working your way down to the bottom there's really no other way to describe them other than: it's like touching silk. Don't get my wrong, I love them custom keyboards. I really enjoy making them. But I can't really see how you could assemble anything feeling just like this. Keep in mind, I'm only wording my own experiences here. It's my personal preference. But these switches are insanely creamy. Considering this to be my new gaming keyboard. It has those extremely creamy OmniPoint switches for your main key layout, and it also has a lot of customization going for it. Magnetized switches with several possibilities. Choosing your own actuation point is a very nice utility. And it kind of looks nice too, speaking purely aesthetics. Not to mention the OLED display.. purely a gimmick, surely.. but yet, neat? For me personally, I won't do any RGB. Thankfully this could be altered to your own liking, either fully blown rainbow or all toned down to zero. I'd say this is actually a nice one. Expensive in it's own category. Then again, I do feel Steelseries have their very own and quite lonely stand at this genre, right here.

I actually read it all. I am wondering on one major thing. A lot of my issues with keyboards are the keycaps. I have been primarily buying Logitech keyboards, and I find the keycaps to be, pardon the language, but, crap. Doing research, I discovered that PBT is a much better keycap then abs. This keyboard featured here is in fact abs. I had this keyboard in mind, as well as several from Corsair. Corsair keycaps are in fact PBT. I was leaning more towards Steelseries until i learned that Corsair has PBT. So in your opinion, are these switches so good, that it makes having the cheaper ABS keycaps worth it? Or should I go with a Corsair with the better PBT caps?
@sjofelumsk
@sjofelumsk 4 жыл бұрын
@@kimmydemina6233 this is all very circumstantial. PBT isn't necessarily better. It is more resistant to shine, caused by use over time, often seen on ABS. But there are different ways of producing keycaps as well. Single shot, or double shot, and so on. If you are referring to normal average consumer keyboards, I'd say most of those keycaps are decent enough. If you want the best of the best you get yourself some GMK ones and make your own keyboard. The main issue with most consumer keyboards is the overall build. Switches, internal dampening (usually nonexistent), weight, materials etc. They keep their costs down by using cheaper solutions in terms of materials. When buying a consumer keyboard, the last thing I'd worry about would be the keycaps. I'd worry about scratchy switches, hollow sounds and overall build quality. The last thing causing dismay with a consumer keyboard would probably be the keycap in most cases.
@kimmydemina6233

@@sjofelumsk Thank you for this. I have only had one mechanical keyboard. It's the Logitech G710+. Before that, I only had membrane, and I had no idea what I was missing out on. My keyboard now has blue switches. The thing for me is, I have always been very unhappy with the key caps, as the lettering always rubbed off soon after buying. Then I discovered backlit keys. LOL But now with my keyboard I have now, the E keycap is breaking. Which is why I am doing all this research on keycaps. What you say makes a lot of sense. I can't make my own keyboard. I'd never trust myself too. I am currently looking at 3 brands, Logitech, the Steelseries, and Corsair. Although I think I have ruled out Logitech. I was leaning towards Steelseries, until I did my research on keycaps. The keycaps on Corsair are PBT doubleshot, so supposed to be real good. And they use genuine cherry switches. So in theory, the switches should also be top notch. But then I am a noob at all this, so maybe not. If I may ask, if you were to choose a keyboard, which one would you go with? Meaning company wise, between the three, and why?

Great review. I use an Apex M750 TKL from SteelSeries, & I love the feel & sound of the key strokes. The sound test at about 6:20 sounds so so nice to press quickly. This is very likely my next keyboard, even with it being about $240 CAD. Premium gear will come at a premium price. Look at the completion for this keyboard & the price doesn’t seem so crazy.

I think it's one of the best keyboards you can get for gaming. The keys are not loud or clicky, they are easy to press, the letters are big and visible. The lighting is on the letters, is very bright, and is not spilled around, the switches are not visibly apparent. They are fast, you won't get your hands tired. Also you get usb hub, which is absent on most keyboards. I compared them to logitech, razer, varmilo, hyperx of that range, and each other has a flaw. I had to return 2 previous keyboards of that price range, and this finally suited me in all aspects. The main thing is switches, they are really great. Not too light, not too heavy, I don't get many misses. I only wish the cable would be detachable and not just rubber. It's quite thick. I've spent several months in search for my mechanical keyboard. It's not an easy pick, as mechanical keyboards are very different, so people get several, as each has its flaws.

I saw this keyboard at bestbuy on display and I instantly fell in love with how this keyboard felt compared to the others. The switches felt so good and smooth, the keyboard looks amazing. The technology is amazing. I am 100percent saving up my money for one of these keyboards. Its perfect for me. And I also want Keanu Reeves as a gif on my keyboard display.

Just got my apex pro tkl yesterday and these are the smoothest switches I’ve ever used and since I was previously using cherry Mx silver speed switches it doesn’t take any time to get used to. Also you won’t hear the springs like you would in a normal cherry Mx switch or gateron or whatever but overall the best keyboard I’ve ever used
