New Stihl BR450 Backpack Blower

My son wanted to get a new backpack blower for this years leaf season. He did his research and decided on a Stihl BR450. Here's is a look at it right after he got it.

89 octane ethanol free with the Stihl HP ultra oil runs great in mine!

If you have it available, I would recommend using 93 non ethanol fuel. Ethanol will gum up the caberater over time.

They are good light duty blowers but don't hold up for commercial use. We bought a bunch of them and the crankcase fails on every one of them. The crankshaft bearings don't have enough support and after a while the case becomes enlarged, then the bearings become loose in the block and the crankshaft wobbles. That blows out the seal and it looses power or the flywheel impacts the ignition coil breaking the coil mounting bosses of the block. We tried to use a thin metal shim around the bearing to tighten it back down but that only lasted for a short time. The better blowers like the 500/600s never have this problem. A replacement block is about $240 and replacing it since it will just fail again.

Ok that's good to know. Are you using the Stihl 2 cycle oil in your equipment and at lease 89 octane gas ? If not I wonder if that will keep the bearing lubed good and not to fail.

That was the early version, Stihl has cured that issue now by redesigning the engine case, see wallys workin videos for updates to the BR450.

@@bobcat1 I hope they did, they were spending a lot on a blower to have the motors fail so quickly. Once the case halves are out of round it's not really repairable. Have been using the 600s lately maybe will get another 450 is the dealers also say the motor is really better.

Solid machine for sure, but one problem I've been seeing a lot of people point out is the strap quality. It seems that they are very uncomfortable and tend to slip off your shoulders while using it. Have you experienced this problem?

Yes my son said that they need more padding and to be longer. But for how good it works this is not a big problem. "Stihl" a great machine. Thanks for watching

But regular gas with the ethanol is garbage. It seems to me the higher the octane the better in lawn equipment. They just start up and run better. Thanks for watching

@@TheGAutomotiveAndMore higher octane 93 has the axact same amount of ethanol that 87 does. the only way to avoid ethanol gas is research your area for a station that has it. they are rare these days and hard to find .

BR450 with electric start is the biggest piece of junk Stihl ever made! I'm on my second and it won't start on the electric starter. Don't touch!!
