This is a stop sign taken off of a school bus, that I have now added to my workshop at home. Why yes, I am a nerd.

How come it makes that chirping noise as the strobes flash?
@AdamsLights5 ай бұрын
It's actually the capacitor charging up, right before it releases the power load to activate the light. After the light flashes, the capacitor re-charges, and thus, the constant chirping sound you hear.

Nice! I grew up in Southeast Georgia, and we had the white strobes on our buses as well.

Hi Adam, very nice sign! It looks like it's in great shape, and I love your mounting location. Assuming that's a Specialty 6-Series stop arm, I have the same one. I actually just uploaded a video of mine today. Can you explain to me how you wired your's up to function as if it were still on the bus? I can get the sign to come in, but I can't get it to go out. Unless something else is messed up inside of it besides the top strobe light, I think it could be an issue with wiring.
@AdamsLights7 жыл бұрын
Hello! Thanks for your message! I forget exactly how it's wired... but I do remember that there are three leads... two positive and one negative. One of the postive lines sends the arm out, and makes the lights flash. The other positive line brings the stopsign back in again. Keep in mind- Mine is an electric stop sign, however they make pneumatic AND vacuum versions too, that operate quite differently.

@@AdamsLights Is White ground leaving Blue and Red hot? I read blue being the deploy and red being the return? Does this sound correct?

Man, am I really late to the game. My schools bus had/has that same strobe setup, I always thought it was cool. Any idea what kind of flasher that is?
@AdamsLights5 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure what the flasher is, to be honest. It's part of the 5000 series sign, and is built right into the actuator.

It's a strobe light, and the sound is the Xenon lamp flashing. All strobe lights make a similar sound.
