Makes me wish the US was more walkable. Even in cities you have to be super careful not to get hit by a car.

I agree. I hear about a lot of instances in my area of people getting ran over. I go to one of the local parks, so I don’t have to worry about drivers too much. Happy summer is about over too, so I can walk at anytime during the day again there. I like the park I go to because I will see hummingbirds almost every time I go, so it’s an extra motivation to do steps.

When you walk you just have to be super careful and know that you don’t have the right away and they just assume run you over. That doesn’t stop me I’m just extra careful.I like to walk everywhere when doing my errands. A lot of times I don’t even need a car. I’d rather walk.And those steps add up so fast

@@notmebutyou8350I’ve heard this too, that even just a 10 minute walk after meals lowers your insulin spike which also helps with inflammation too. I’ve been doing it lately and I end up walking for 15-20 mins when only aiming for 10 ha. I try and do ‘earthing’ some of those times too by walking on the beach and partly in the water. It really improves my mood and day ☺️

Walking is technically a form of exercise. But it should honestly just be a facet of daily living. It's sad how so many people don't move. 1) Ideally, people should be spreading 1-2hrs of walking over each day just for health purposes. 2) Resistance training (weights or even bodyweight calisthenics) at least 2-3x per week is a great goal. 3) Formal cardio that tests your vo2 max for at least 90 min per week is a great goal.

He's talking here about reducing mortality...there are MANY additional benefits of walking. I started brisk walking and was amazed just how fast my belly went down as well as my jowls and turkey neck. Makes me wonder why I wasted my time doing sit-ups.

if each step is 3 feet then 7,000 steps is 21,000 feet or between 3 and 4 miles. If the pace of walking is 3 miles per hour then walking for 1 hour will do the deed. Another idea is that doing any repetitive exercise, like walking, 20 minutes eevery day will do the deed.

Unfortunately, Mr. Whiskers, people tend to “jaywalk” thinking the car is going to stop. I can stop quicker on my feet than that heavy car can. While we’d like to think we as pedestrians always have the right of way, I’d rather stop for the car than just think they are going to care about me and automatically stop. Pedestrians have taken that “you always have the right of way” TOO DAMN SERIOUSLY.

I'm sure I do more than 10,000 steps a day just pacing back and fourth. i'm always paced around my room or my yard to the point I made trails in my yard as a kid and since then spend prolly a quarter of my day walking for the past 20 years. Easy to day dream while walking, pretty sure my knees are destroyed at 25.

“ independent of other risk factors such as age or diabetes, gender, race” … Did they factor in obesity? Obese people have a higher mortality rate and they tend to be less mobile as well. So is their mortality rate due to obesity or lack of walking?

Lack of physical activities coupled with unhealthy diet, often lead to childhood obesity, and if unchecked, leads to many health issues into adulthood.
@forgeustiss6667
@forgeustiss6667 3 жыл бұрын
This might seem obvious but if it occurred to you, chances are that the researchers also thought of it. You might want to read the study to see if they controlled for obesity. There are enough obese (BMI>25) people who walk > 7000 steps each day for them to have enrolled enough to control for this. There are very simple ways to control for any given variable in a multi-variate analysis. .
@cefinau
@cefinau 3 жыл бұрын
@@forgeustiss6667 BMI over 30 is considered obese. 25+ is “overweight” Personally I don’t know any obese people who consistently walk 7000 steps a day, as it seems to be too painful/fatiguing. Apparently those in the study who recorded the lowest level of steps per day, were more likely to have a high BMI
