New Style IKEA Besta Rail 704.883.18

IKEA has a new style rail suspension system for their BESTA line of cabinets. I show you here, how to use it.
I actually like this new design, as it has metal clips instead of plastic. Also, there is a bit of a hook that slides into the groove on the back of the cabinet. The previous design did not have that feature.
The new part number is 704.883.18

Tell me you didn’t read the directions without telling me you didn’t read the directions. The rail is designed to have a built in centerline. You flip it upside down to mark your holes. That give you your 1.5” down without having to guess. Just mark where you want the top of your cabinets to fall.

Do the pieces you stuck to the back of the besta come with the suspension rail? Or was that something you needed to buy separately?

@@CliffsHowTo I don't think the besta tv stand I purchased has the holes for metal bracket that sticks to the back. Do you have a link to the stand you used in this video? The one I purchased is from the first video you did.

Great video, where did you buy the dry wall screws and wood stud screws I just bought this at ikea and it didn’t come with mounting screws??

Personally, I would use an oscillating tool to cut the tail off the wall so that you could flush mount the cabinet.

My apartment doesn’t have wood studs, it has metal studs. Do you recommend to hang this tv unit on the wall?

I would personally not hang this on the wall, in an apartment, unless you own it. Just put the feet on it, and use it like that. If you do own, I know they make anchors for metal studs. Just use those anchors.

I want to hang my BESTÅ close to the room corner as possible. So basically, I just want to know what the minimum distance between the rail and the perpendicular wall is. Any idea?

I don’t know the answer to that one. You’d be able to measure it out once you t get the parts. Don’t forget to account for the thickness of the side of the cabinet!

They come in various lengths. Check the IKEA website for details

The Bestå units seem to come in standard unit width of 23 5/8" [23.625" decimal]. Therefore, the double unit would be 23 5/8" x 2, which is 47 1/4". The triple unit is 23 5/8" x 3 so the width would be 70 7/8" [or 70.875" decimal]. The height of these particular boxes is 15" with the depth of 15 3/4".

Same problem here... The besta units labeled as "TV Bench" aren't made to be used with the Besta railing, hence no holes... That sucks! The regular besta cabinets come with the holes for the railing, but not the tv bench! if you check the besta railing page on Ikea's website, there's a remark for it there. As I already got the railings, I'm planning to drill the holes myself and get it done, or add some corner bracers to the wall studs and to the unit interior like some other folks did (search on YT for ikea besta hack, or something like that) Good luck!

Yes, we returned to the store and they explained that to us. We mounted it directly to the wall. We were able to hit a few studs and also used some 45-angle brackets and screwed them on the inside of the unit into the wall. So far so good...@@douglasfrankenberger4904
