Legally you can't demand someone to pay a debt in america. You can get away with not paying any money to anyone (above board that is... you on your own with underground shit and those never end well for you lolz) that is owed to them. That is what bankruptcy is. Instead society punishes you in other ways. Usually credit problems. But it's part of what makes America the home of the free. You cannot bind someone into indenture servitude of any kind and that includes monetary debt.

I would love to see an evolution on 2D Mario, rather than just another new super mario bros game. The original on the DS was truly a novelty, since 2D games were not very popular at the time, and this return to form was refreshing, the GBA didn't even have a new 2D mario game. But now 2D games are more popular and refined than ever, with all the indies coming out. A more fluid momentum-based approach like Rayman Legends could be awesome, or maybe a more high budget cinematic take like Donkey kong country returns, tropical freeze. I would even take a new pixel art or hand drawn 2D mario over another bland new super mario.

Sure, on their own, they're all decent platformers you can have fun with. But I think people were looking more for the level of creativity and differences between games seen in other concurrent 2D platformer Nintendo series like Kirby and DK. You can make the argument that Mario was striving to be more simple, but for the same price as those other games and without very much visual distinction it's reasonable that people would think NSMB was just lacking after the fourth one rolled around.
@bobosmith101 Жыл бұрын

@DJIVision Жыл бұрын
@@kingstarscream320 Lol okay, here's the script before edits. Gotta break it up into parts because YT won't let me copy-paste the entire thing. Too long. Here's part 1: Did you know? [0] The developers of New Super Luigi U cheated to make the game easier than they wanted you to think it is. [1] Luigi U was originally released as DLC for New Super Mario Bros U, but with harder levels that only give you 100 seconds to reach the flag pole [1] -- but the devs made Luigi seconds 35% longer than Mario seconds. [7] In an interview, they said even though they're the guys who made the stages, they were having trouble beating em that quick, and worried it'd be too difficult for the fans at home. [3] They considered making all the stages shorter, or doubling the timer to 200 seconds -- but they didn't wanna redesign the whole game, and 100 was such a nice round number, so... they fudged the numbers. [4] We timed it ourselves, and the seconds in most Mario games -- including New Super Mario Bros U -- aren't real seconds. [5] Each tick is really only about three-quarters of a second. But for the Luigi DLC, they made each tick one actual second. [6] In other words, 100 Luigi seconds are equal to 135 Mario seconds -- which makes the game a lot easier than you're led to believe. [8] Not only on Wii U, but also in the Switch Deluxe edition. We recently replayed all the New Super Mario games, read a bunch of old interviews, and did some digging to find some secrets, easter eggs, and behind-the-scenes for the entire series. [9][248] We're also gonna look at the Japan-exclusive arcade entry, as well as Super Mario Run -- it might not have "New" in the title, but it's basically the series' mobile entry, so we'll cover that one too. [10] First off, let me just say -- I know these games aren't the most highly-regarded nowadays -- [44] and a lotta folks say they can't hold a candle to Mario's 3D adventures. [39] But let's get one thing clear right off the bat -- in terms of sales, the New Super games are way more popular than 3D Mario. [40] The first one sold over 30 million copies [41] -- which is more than the entire Metroid and F-Zero franchises combined. And the sequel on Wii sold another 30 million. [42] Everyone and their mom played these games. With those kinda numbers, you might be wondering why they haven't made a new one in almost a decade. [43] We'll get to that later, but first let's get into some trivia. [38] For most people, when they think of Mario, they think of Shigeru Miyamoto. [203][246] But when it comes to the New Super series, they should really be thinking of another guy [204] -- Takashi Tezuka, who's basically been in charge of 2D Mario since the Super Nintendo. [205] According to Miyamoto: "Mario was created not only by myself, but also with Mr. Tezuka. I am kind of shy accepting all of the compliments myself all the time." [201] / "Tezuka's sort of my right hand man at Nintendo. And he's responsible for New Super Mario Bros. We talk a lot about the game, but basically he's in charge." [202] One thing that might surprise fans of the New Super games is why they have that distinctive art style. [207] Every 2D Mario that came before was made out of 2D sprites, but New Super Mario was more like 2.5D, and used 3D models as well as sprites made from pre-rendered 3D models. [208] All the sequels used that style as well -- at this point, it's become the series' iconic look. [209] But it wasn't actually an artistic choice -- according to Tezuka, it was mostly just because it was easier. [211] Back when the first game launched, he told Nintendo Power: "[We chose that style because it] makes certain types of expression easier. We can rotate characters, make them bigger, make them smaller, etc. [206] Those types of things are more difficult with 2D sprites. Also, current development tools tend to favor 3D graphics." [210]
@DJIVision Жыл бұрын
Part 2: After the game's release, Nintendo ran into a little trouble in the European Union. [213] Their ratings board originally said New Super Mario was acceptable for ages 3 and up, like pretty much every Mario game. [314] But it later got bumped up to a more restrictive rating. That was all thanks to one of the bonus minigames, Picture Poker, where you play five-card draw and bet coins in a casino. [212] Europe said if you're gonna gamble with Luigi, you're gonna have to be at least 12. New Super Mario Bros on DS was originally supposed to have two-player co-op -- a few screenshots can be seen in an issue of Nintendo Power printed about six months before the game hit store shelves. The magazine says: "New Super Mario Bros features a two-player co-op mode -- a first for the series. Not content simply to keep Luigi out of the limelight, Mario now uses his brother as a human shield. Maybe next time Luigi should leave his hotshot sibling to rot in the haunted mansion." Well that's pretty much what happened, because co-op ended up getting cut, and replaced with a small versus mode with only five stages. [59] You can play single-player as Luigi with a simple code, [34] but he has the exact same physics as Mario -- no high jump or anything -- so it's just a cosmetic difference. [36] Gaming press reported seeing an early build where Bowser was playable as well -- possibly as a reward for beating the game -- but it didn't make it into the final game. [255] That idea for full-on co-op eventually made its way into New Super Mario Bros Wii but instead of just two or three characters, it had four -- Mario, Luigi, Ala-Gold the yellow Toad, and Bucken-Berry the blue Toad. [45] Although we should note those Toad names are contentious -- they're commonly used by fans, but the Super Mario Wiki refuses to acknowledge them. [259] Those names come from a Destructoid article claiming a Nintendo of America employee shared them off-camera, but some fans thought the article was a joke. So we checked in with Destructoid's author for more details, [257] and he said they were nicknames used by some members of the Japanese Mario team, but Miyamoto made it clear that he didn't want those Toads to have names, ever. [258] So whether they're really named Ala-Gold and Bucken-Berry, we'll leave that up to you to decide. [256] Regardless, all four characters controlled identically and didn't have unique physics or abilities. [46] Other characters like Wario and Waluigi were considered, but fans would've expected them to have special skills -- and Nintendo didn't wanna do that. [47] According to Miyamoto: "Mario and Luigi are the same as always, of course, and suggestions for the other two characters included Wario and Waluigi, Toad, and Princess Peach. The thing is that with Wario he'd need to have a fart attack, [49] Peach would have to be able to fly with her skirt, and so on. [50] With this game we wanted every character to play the same way." And I mean, okay Miyamoto, I suppose that does keep everyone on a more even playing field... but c'mon. [51] It ain't e-sports -- it's a party game. Peach flying and Wario farting would've been way better than two Toads. [52] After Mario Wii was already finished, the devs kept on playing it for fun, and during their play sessions they came up some ideas for a Challenge Mode. [11][250] But it was too late to add it into the game, and DLC wasn't really a thing back then. [250] They still wanted to share those challenges with fans though, so they posted them on Nintendo's official Japanese website. [12] There were a total of 89 challenges, all ranked from one to five stars -- like finishing levels with zero points, self-imposed limitations like winning with mini-Mario, [13] and speedrun times for every stage. [14] Nintendo released the challenge list in English too, but for some reason they later deleted it. [16] They also banned that webpage from the Internet Archive, so it's completely wiped off the internet with no way to find it. [21] Lucky for us though, one of our viewers printed it out on a piece of paper about a decade ago and sent us pictures -- so here they are if you're curious to see what all they were, or if you're a hardcore fan who thinks you've got what it takes to complete them. [15] Having to get those challenges off a website wasn't exactly ideal though -- which is why the devs built them directly into the next game, New Super Mario Bros U, [17] as a separate mode available right from the home screen. [20] There's actually less of them -- Mario Wii had 89 challenges, while Mario U only has 67. But they take place on their own custom courses, so it's definitely a more fleshed-out experience. [18] This situation of supplemental content being online instead of in the game itself was actually reversed for Hint Movies -- they were included in Mario Wii, but only on the internet for Mario U. [229] In case you don't remember, if you go to Peach's Castle in Mario Wii, you can watch videos that teach you how to do Super Skills, speedruns, and secrets. [223] There's some really tricky techniques in there -- so tricky in fact that some fans thought they were tool-assisted or made by bots. [224] But it was actually Nintendo's debuggers, with the director and other high-level staff breathing down their necks to make sure they did everything perfect. [225] Every time they went through a pipe, they had to go right down the middle; [226] if there were a group of coins floating in the air, they either had to skip them for speed or grab em all. [228] Only getting some was unacceptable, and meant they'd have to reset and start over. The debuggers replayed again and again until all 65 Hint Movies were absolutely flawless. [229] They did something similar for Mario U, but instead of Peach's Castle, Nintendo put all the Hint Movies on the game's KZbin channel. [230]

Nintendo's got a lot of positives and negatives with the community, and I'd even argue they're too tough on fan games but the relationship only works if they don't have to be spending a lot of effort fighting the community over stuff like pirates. Same, I love these classic style episodes of just explaining facts about some games compared to the newer style of digging up some extremely obscure interviews or looking into a cancelled game

Miyamoto's supposed reaction to the NSMB2 coin-block power-up reminds me of my first reaction to the Tanooki power-up when i was a kid "i have ears and a tail now? what am i supposed to do with this?" the tail spin was easy to figure out, flying? not so much for my little mind back then.

"But Miyamoto made it clear that he didn't want those Toads to ever be named" *Looks at modern Paper Mario* You don't say.

Have you ever played some of the New Super Mario Bros games with just the mini mushroom? Once you learn how to use it properly, it lets you skip over entire levels with ease. The mini mushroom in New Super Mario Bros. U is particularly interesting as not only does it make your jumps floatier, but you can also hover in the air for a very long time with midair twirls, perform a spin jump akin to that of the spin jump in Super Mario Sunshine (as it's the highest jump in the game), platform on water as if it were a platform, and run up walls. The downside is that you die in one hit and have to ground pound enemies to hurt them. This single power up recontextualizes the way you play New Super Mario Bros. U, making for an almost entirely different game mode! Just reach the flagpole with the last two digits of the timer being 66 and keep doing so, for a mini mushroom mode! Weirdly enough, this won't work until after you beat the first world of the game! Perhaps the developers didn't want to grant you access to such an advanced power up so early in the game, which is why you have to finish the first world in order to obtain it at all.
@pepearown4968 Жыл бұрын
NSMBDS has a level in the first world that gives you very easy access to the mini mushroom. You need to beat Mummipokey from world 2, and Petey Piranha from world 5 with the mini mushroom in order to unlock worlds 4 and 7. And, I believe all NSMB games let you walk on water with the mini mushroom. I believe that NSMB2 has a level dedicated entirely to that concept.

Miyamoto is right. No wonder I remembered Wii U New Super Mario better. The gold block was pretty dumb. I get that the series is supposed to be silly, but this is just slapping on some random for the sake of doing it.

I still desperately wish that Nintendo would produce "New Super Mario All-Stars" - a fully revamped & modernized version of the SNES collection. It would be great to see overhauled visuals and improvements to the overall presentation (which can give a stronger connection to the series and the numerous ways it has been expanded upon). But also, it would be interesting to see how the old SNES and NES games could be improved - maybe with new content in the form of extra levels.

If Nintendo ever goes back to 2D Mario and wants to abandon the “New” label on the series, I’d love for them to make it look like a cartoon like Wario Land: Shake It

I remember reading the names for Yellow and Blue Toad were Wolley and Yvan respectively in a Nintendo Power Magazine I believe it was. I cannot remember where but it was in an interview with one of the translators. Basically it is Yellow and Navy mirrored.
@DJIVision Жыл бұрын
Someone else commented that was an IGN poll or something asking fans what they wanted the names to be, and those two names won the fan poll.

I wouldn't mind if Nintendo made some shorter levels for a future 2D Mario, just as long as not all of them are extremely short. Would be nice to have some longer levels every once in a while to flesh out some ideas.

As for the in game timer: In SMB3, the timer runs slower the more the camera is scrolling. So the faster you run, the slower the timer.
