Narcissists suffer from 3 types of depression. Depression may be better conceived as a cognitive distortion rather than a mood disorder. It involves catastrophizing and a host of infantile psychological defense mechanisms. But sometimes it is a positive adaptation.

I had the same idea, although I thought of it as having a maladaptive ontological framework. Which is nearly synonymous with 'cognitive distortion'. My depression subsided a couple years ago. I still recall the moment I realised I was no longer depressed. I saw a colour I had not seen before in the sky. My day to day habits had not changed significantly. What happened was a drastic paradigm shift. I had been reading some theological and philosophical books during that time, contemplating and soaking them in slowly, which caused my overall outlook to change.

Thank you so much for validating my depression as being mentally healthy. I've always argued being depressed is seeing the REALITY of this cess pool in which we live.

Some people think being happy is easy That it comes natural to everyone But did you know that some people are genetically predisposed to being unhappy Not To mention the fact that not everyone is still the same hand when we're born Some of us grow with a loving family Three meals a day and pizza on the weekends Others don't Happiness is a feeling depending on your genetic makeup and what's going on in your life at the moment It can come and it can go But what about joy? Can a person have joy In their lives even when they're unhappy Can a person love someone even when they're angry at them. Even when they're hurt. Love isn't a feeling Love is a choice What if joy also isn't a feeling But something we choose Even when we're so sad we can't barely breathe. What does it mean to be brave I think of all those moments in my life when Happiness abandoned me to grief and loss How much easier would it have been to fall into despair And i think choosing joy Fighting for joy Is the bravest thing you could ever do By -the korean vegan

Viktor Frankl said the opposite in regards to his concentration camp experience. It was his ability to change his attitude about the situation - toward a more hopeful one - that liberated him.

No. Not hopeful but meaningful. Frankl was a proponent of meaning - not of hopium. Watch my video on logotherapy.

I believe VF was talking about finding "meaning" to ur circumstances & this helped u to survive. I've always thought a certain degree of depression was a normal response to a horrible reality. It's a form of pain that makes u think about what's actually happening & respond after a full examination of ur choices.

sorry i'm not a native speaker. The whole issue of suicide is fed by the perception gap between one's life and the life of those around us. The more relatively the better their lives than ours, the more we want to end ours. That is why the rate really went down in 2020, everyone's life became similar. When we see others and everything positive their lives and the lack in ours, it only alienates people with terribly sad lives. Turn the undecided into jumpers. Society also constantly reinforces us the idea of comparing ourselves economic and socially and morally, and the ideal that we must be better than all. It is the reason for increased depression in the population. Depression is not just "a single horrible thing happened to me and now my life makes sense." It is actually a feeling of nothing more than uselessness and lack of purpose in life. It may arise precisely from constant comparison with other people. The interpersonal psychological theory of suicidal behavior (Joiner, 2005) proposes that an individual will not die by suicide unless they have two specific psychological states in their minds simultaneously, and when they do so long enough, they develop a desire to die. The two psychological states are: 1. a perceived burden and 2. a sense of low belonging or social alienation.

so ur saying depression is just a feeling based on a bunch of negative thoughts where u tell urself everything is doom and gloom . So does it still have something to do with the neurotransmitters in ur brain ? There is no chemical imbalance ? genetic component?
