That's the grime I have with the New Safari. It's a "Stretched Harrier" "Essentially a 7 Seater Harrier" "Harrier with two more seats" It's consistently overshadowed by it's younger sibling and viewed in the same eye as that. A Fwd stretched Crossover can never Justify the Name tag of the legend. As a Storme owner and a long time Safari fan, I am of all things, #Dissappointed.

I live in the hills and 10:10 was on point! I can live without AWD, but a large car(suv if you insist) that is front wheel driven ain't gonna help, a rear wheel drive performs like magic on muddy uphills. This much I know by experience!

Firstly, though as usual (awesome is now zigwheels std, Lol) a well put together review, the camera and edit crew being awesome as usual. Coming back to the vehicle, like many of the 80s-90s kids, to me Safari was THE SUV. It reliability being another story, no other indian vehicle had its presence. Even after Scorpio came in, Safari held it own. So for me its more of an emotional connection (Have only driven it for a few kms once) So loss of proper 4x4 is pure an emotional thing for me. In that sense, Safari in the new avatar isnt so much of a disappointed. I like the styling of the 7 seater more than the 5. Not a fan of white interiors though. It will be a pain to maintain in our dusty conditions even if you use AC all the time. For example 04:50 the felt lining on the inside of the rear captain was already soiled in a brand new car. I am happy that handbrake lever from the Harrier has been done away with. I was very skeptical of Tata using the 'Safari' name on the Gravitas but I think its not as bad as i thought it would be. About the Safari missing out on Rear wheel drive, since this is only a FWD, I would like for Zigwheels to pit the 2WD OG safari or Dicor 2.2VTT or 2.2 Varicor against the new safari off road, just to get a sense of how much the new Safari misses out on (if at all)

11:10 I don't know why all auto journalists neat pick USB placements. It's easy for tata to put them in sight but they didn't because if third person sits in the middle then he will accidentally hit the cable attached in USB with his foot which can damage the cable as well as port. Being an auto journalist one should think before neat picking and start thinking about in such well laid out cabin do they really want to mess up with just USB placements? IMO that USB placements are just perfect once cable is attached the cable will stay away from foot which will protect the USB port and give passenger an extra inch of legroom too !

honestly how much do they save by not giving the middle seat passenger a headrest in the 2nd row. also if you are in the 3rd row and happen to get rear-ended... wonder what gonna happen to you. the headrest is practically kissing the rear

8:50.. i swear that clutch travel is such a pain. The same issue was in harrier also. If you move the seat in front to compensate for the clutch travel you end up hitting your knee in the console. The cards are incredible but how is no one talking about such a huge ergonomic flaw?

One of the best reviews Karthik. Carrying forward the name of a legend is both curse and a blessing. Curse because it will be compared against the previous generations and blessings because its known name and no new identity needs to be established. I did thought over it the previous gen Safari was never a commercially hit (for records Hexa too which I personally own and am proud to own one). But still its a legend in its own rights, its got huge fan following. A vehicle is never perfect and it should never be but last gen Safari had lot of character whether it was the bold SUV stance or the high seating position. But why it never got the commercial success is a mystery. Business can't run on emotions and you need volume for making the product a success. Hopefully this time Tata has executed it well but they need to add more features as you said to make it more competent. Also all 7 seater has boot space issues including my Hexa but this is a bit small. If Tata could have smartly packaged the last row seat this could have been avoided, however all 7 seat occupancy doesn't happen 80% of the time so I think it should be ok considering XUV 500 also had the smallest boot. Now all eyes on XUV 500, lets see what the competition brings till then Tata do have time to add more features to the Safari.

manually adjustable passenger seat, no headrest for 2nd row middle seat, tiny unresponsive infotainment screen with huge bezels, no wireless charging, pretty bad rear camera, even smaller screen when u use android auto/ apple carplay,. its not even gonna be that cheap anymore, its honestly missing way too much. btw door thud doesnt mean quality, it just means a heavier door.

A heavier door needs a heavier body so door thud is an easy way to check body quality because heavy door with light body doesn't produce same sound and is a faulty design from the start, all the other features you mentioned are very minor and mostly pointless for Indian people

@@Kar90great not necessarily. the body of a car is good enough for a heavy door as long as the car is big and weighs a bit. a heavier door just feels like a more well built car, it doesnt actually tell a lot about build quality in reality. its like a fingerprint sensor on a phone. it makes the phone feel more secure, but in reality a 5 digit password is twice as secure as a fingerprint as long as u dont put something obvious... not to mention you can put an 8 digit password or longer to make it even more secure

A heavy door on a proportionally lighter body is a faulty design to begin with and no one would do it, second point is that no one would build a heavy door if their vehicle body is not heavy or has higher strength because scoring a heavier door doesn't improve safety ratings as much as it would be if it was used to build a better body so heavier thud is a telltale sign of a much better build because it gives right away that the body is proportionally much better built and that shows in the safety ratings of tata cars.... Maruti makes lighter bodies and don't have a thud so as to improve fuel economy and it shows in their safety ratings Given the chance of building a heavier body or a heavier door, any carmaker would chose a heavier body since it improves centre of gravity and body strength as well as impact absorption so it directly gives a safety and stability advantage but not in the case of heavier door

@@Kar90great it really isnt. a fingerprint scanner has a 1/50000 chance of being cracked but a 5 digit password has a 1/100000 chance of being cracked, but the fact you think the fingerprint scanner is more secure is proof itself that it feels more secure even though it actually is. same way with the door. a good thud makes the car feel robust but it actually doesn't tell much about built quality. many companies make doors heavier to make cars feel more robust
