I'm not sure but I don't think the main comic line (the one you're reacting to) was tied to any game updates, though there definitely are other comics on their site that definitely did come with specific updates (you can usually tell by whatever the comic is about, like being about specific weapons, the robots or Soldier pissing off Merasmus into attacking for example, meanwhile the main comic line has its very own story plot that has no effect on the game as you can see)

I do suggest reading non main story comics. TF2 has official (I think it is?) site with ALL the comics. Most of them are updated related, but they still give some lore and a lot of funny moments
