The owl head is a wearable cosmetic for sniper. In fact, all the mercs have a bird/animal cosmetic like that, sometimes even several, but they're restricted to only being wearable on full moons or sfream fortress events (basically the entire month of october)

If you're looking into the TF2 community content, there is one very special video I would recommend above all others: Team Fabulous 2. It was released in 2012, and is a 17 minute long love letter to the wackiness of the game. It's basically an extremely culture-dense highlight of the 2007-2012 era of the game that is hilarious, bizarre, and heartfelt in equal measures. The creator of it, kitty0706, aka Colin Wyckoff, unfortunately passed away due to leukemia in 2015, and Team Fabulous 2 was the last project he completed before his cancer took away his ability to continue producing content. So far, all of the TF2 content you've been exploring has been created in SFM, or Source Filmmaker. Team Fabulous 2, however, was created in Garry's Mod, as were almost all fan videos back then as SFM wasn't publicly available yet, and therefore it has a very different energy since it's taking a sandbox game and twisting it into a video editing program instead of just using a pre-designed video editing program like SFM. EDIT: I would avoid the Reanimated collab by TFConnect for now, though; in my opinion, at least, it kinda misses the mark in a lot of ways and while it's amazing as a tribute, it's comparatively subpar as a viewing experience.

Yeah the reanimated collab misses the mark on catching the feel, the group who put it together had passion at least. They did it more as a way to honor Kitty, and I think also raised plenty of money to donate to Leukemia research, the type of cancer that specifically took Kitty’s life.

Fun fact: The producers of Turbulence never got to finish it due to the deadline and submitted it as it. From what I hear there was supposed to be more, yet they won a Saxxy!

The award it won was a Saxxy. SFM (Source Film Maker) feels pretty commonplace now but it was originally an in-house software at Valve for making their cinematics. It was developed specifically to utilize the source gaming engine to help expedite multimedia projects for their i.p.s Left 4 Dead, Half Life 2, Portal 2, and all of the TF2 Meet the Team shorts were done using it. Given Valve's propensity towards freeware they made the software available to everyone for free in June of 2012, and announced an annual contest for those savvy enough to make their own projects using the software. It began in TF2 but eventually expanded to other topics as well. It was an Oscars type affair with several categories and winners would receive an in-game item of a Saxxy award. A golden statue of the one and only Saxton Hale which could be utilized as a melee weapon for every class and when landing a killing blow would turn its target into a golden statue for all to enjoy. Turbulence won the award in the Best Overall category in 2014. It's weird to think about but so many things about modern meme culture actually stem from TF2 and the nonsense that its community has gotten up to over the years. Even now there are people who create content the old-fashioned way in regards to TF2 tomfoolery using the likes of GMod. If you ever want to see some of that stuff, I'd give the likes of Kitty0706 a look, or, an excellent little series called "Team Neighborhood"

@@formattedorc I have an obscene amount of hours in TF2. If ever you'd like some tips and tricks in playing the game let me know. There are some things one will just never really learn about without asking or someone offering given how chaotic pub matches are. I will say if you want to have a more chill experience learning shooting and movement, find a community server in the search function. A lot of those are focused on people just playing the game rather than the objective and screwing around which makes for an excellent learning environment.

Ah yes The Saxxy’s think of it as the TF2 equivalent of the Oscars… fun fact there is actually an in game reward for winning this competition… the ability to beat someone to death with the reward itself… and killing an enemy with it turns them to GOLD(or Australiaium) also the reward it self is a golden statue of SAXTON HALE!!!!!(the buff guy that punched a yeti so hard it explodes in the Jungle Inferno update trailer)
