Also, a little extra info about each character: Scout Real name: Jeremy Scout is from the USA, specifically Boston, and was the weakest and smallest of several brothers. He trained his speed to make up for his weaknesses and somehow developed the ability to do a "double jump". He also happens to be a big fan of Tom Jones, He sadly can't read, or at least struggles with reading, and loves drinking Bonk! Atomic Punch, an energy drink that has radiation in it. Oh, and Canonically, Scout has met god, who acts similar to him, and according to god, Scout was created to be literally "Gods gift to women." Soldier Real Name: Jane Doe (Yes, this is his name.) Soldier originates from an unknown location in the midwest of the USA. He has mental issues that only got worse from drinking lead-poisoned water. He loves America, and despite calling himself a soldier of the USA, He has never actually been in the army. Infact, he was rejected from every military branch, and then decided to go to germany himself to kill nazis.... a few years AFTER world war II ended... Oh, and he used to be roommates with an actual 1000s year old Wizard named Merasmus (Voiced by Nolan North), who he ruined the life of, and due to this, every halloween Merasmus tries to kill the mercenaries with his magic. And he has a pet raccoon named Lieutenant Bites. Pyro Real Name: Unknown Pyro is a true mystery, we don't even know what Gender pyro is, there has been a long standing theory that pyro is actually a woman, a theory that Valve themselves have fueled by adding both masculine and feminine versions of several of pyros taunts and animations, as well as constantly making woman-related jokes with the pyro. Several domination lines against the pyro even joke around with the theory (Soldier dominating the pyro may cause him to yell that Pyro fights like a girl, for example.) Alternatively, Perhaps pyro is just a roaming, genderless monster? who knows. Pyro is Pyro. Demoman Real Name: Tavish Finnigan Degroot Hailing from Ullapool, Scotland, Demoman comes from a long line of demomen. He lives in his own castle alongside his now blind mother, and his talking Ghost Sword: The Eyelander. Demoman is very drunk, to the point that his body has converted some of his insides into a biological distillery that converts bonemarrow into alcohol. Demoman also lost his eye long, long ago when he was a kid. His mother sent him out on halloween to get a job, this led him to entering the ancient castle of Merasmus the Magician and taking a cleaning job. Unfortunately for him, he looked inside a cursed book about bombs: The Bombinomicon (Voiced by Nolan North.), who cursed his eyesocket, turning his now missing eye into a giant demonic eyeball monster named Monoculus. Every halloween the mercs have to fight it as well. Heavy Real Name: Mikhail (Nickname is Misha) Hailing from the cold mountains of russia, Heavy is a wonderful character. He works his mercenary job to protect his mother and 3 sisters (One of those sisters is currently now married to soldier by the way.) Long ago, heavys father was killed by Russian Communists if i remember correctly, Him and his family was also for awhile taken to and imprisoned in a Russian Gulag, but they broke out and have been living secluded in the mountains since. Heavy isn't stupid, despite how it may seem, he has a PHD in russian literature, and is decently smart, it's just he struggles to speak english that well. Engineer Real Name: Dell Conagher A very intelligent mercenary who comes from an entire family of engineers. Some of his buildings include the automatic Sentry Gun, The Dispenser, and his Teleporters. Engineer is a soft spoken Texan who just tries to solve practical problems. He is known to get along well with Medic, as well as acts "weirdly fatherly" to Pyro. Engineer isn't entirely sane either, while he is definitely one of the smartest, and probably one of the most likely to sit down and have a friendly chat and a beer with, Engineer did cut off one of his hands (the one under his glove.) and replace it with a robotic version (Which is known as the Gunslinger.) Medic Real Name: Mr. Ludwig Originating from Germany, And lacking a medical license, Medic is a very intelligent... well.. Medic, But unfortunately he has a very morbid curiosity to run experiments on his patients. Canonically, Medic has surgically stolen the souls of his teammates and attached them to his soul, He has also met with the Devil *at least twice* and the devil has taken 2 souls from him total. How does the devil have 2 souls of his? its because Medic has been able to outright *outsmart him* through legal loopholes. Sniper Real Name: Mun Dee (Birthname) Mr. Mundy (Current name) Originating from the lost country of New Zealand, but being raised by adoptive australian Parents, Sniper is a professional who has standards. He also really cares for his adoptive parents, even if they don't exactly like his line of work. Spy Real Name: Unknown Originating from France, Spy is an expert assassin, and yes, He is the father of the Scout. Although he refuses to let scout know, He is actually proud of him, at least, sometimes... Spys suit costs more than my entire life.

here's some other interesting ones mostly involving the weapons in the game. for context to those that don't know, in the game, you can get multiple different weapons for each class, in the forms of primary, secondary and melee (you can also get cosmetics, but that's just to look nice) for the medic, one of his medi-guns (the device he used to heal allies) is actually made out of a coffee machine, that is still capable of making coffee. for the scout, he has a bottle of milk he can throw at enemies, making any ally that hits them get a bit of health back from hitting them (don't ask how), but it's canonically not milk, it's something else (it's not what you're thinking, they denied it that much), but what it really is is a mystery. on top of that, he also has a can of soda called Bonk! Atomic Punch, that makes him temporarily faster and invincible. it also has about 10X the average body weight in sugar, and is radioactive. soldier has a rocket launcher that shoots 3 rockets at once, in succession. this one is actually made of junk he found in a trashcan. he even has a cosmetic set with it where his helmet is a broken football helmet that's somewhat repaired with a sheet of metal, and has his grenades replaced with cans of beans. also, Abraham Lincoln was the first generation soldier (the current mercs are the 3rd) in this world, and is said to have invented the rocket jump, before stairs were later invented, but not by him, though. demoman, or demo for short, has a legendary broadsword that is cursed. it can talk to him and likes beheading people. he also has a variety of of shields that changes his playstyle to a melee based playstyle. using a shield allows him to charge forward at enemies, and players have used this to abuse the physics of the game to allow them to launch themselves in the air for great distances. this is known as "trimping" and is said that mastering it's art is a sign of how well of a player you are. sniper has a secondary that is literally a jar of piss. using it on enemies will make them take small amounts of critical damage (mini-crits) for a period of time. this can also help reveal a cloaked or disguised spy. the reason he is capable of making so many is because the weapons company of their world (mann co.) sent him pills that enlarge his bladder by 3 times it's size. it also doubles as a painkiller for the rest of his organs shutting down. by the by, mann co. is run by a very burly austrailian man known as saxton hale, who has chest hair in the exact shape of austrailia, is capable of punching at over a hundred pounds of force (possibly more) and has canonically hunted the yeti population to extinction. he also owns a grill as a desk table. i bring this up because both he and the sniper are both aussies. well, technically, sniper is from new Zealand, but that's a whole nother can of beans. the spy is, behind the engineer, the most technological of the roster. he owns a device that can stun and destroy engineer's devices, make himself invisible for a brief moment, and one that can disguise himself as enemies teammates. that one also doubles as a cigarette case. out of all the mercs, spy is considered the most sane, and some wonder how for those lines are. in game, when disguised as an enemy, allies will see him as himself wearing a paper mask, showing that the mercs are easily fooled. also, in the comics, he also reveals that most of his teeth are fake and are used to hold a miniature assortment of tools, food and even a cyanide capsule, if necessary. engineer has, in fact, cut his arm off to replace it with a robotic one. his ancestors also created devices that would increase someone's longevity to near immortality. in one instance, he and medic made the assumption that his teleporters were giving everyone tumor, when in reality, it was just horribly mutating bread. he also may have a god-complex. there's not much to say about pyro. maybe that his flamethrower was built from scratch, or that she can use flare guns as secondaries? he's not really the easiest to pin point, which is interesting, because the fanbase considers her as the easiest class to play as. all people know is, he likes fire, she's insane, nobody knows who they are and, moreorless, nobody seems to care.

However, when they got to New Mexico, they discovered that their newfound fortune... was actually just sand. In his will- which was written on his skin due to a lack of paper- he left his gold and estate to his servant, Elizabeth. To his aid and tracker, Barnabas Hale, Zepheniah left Mann Co. They had spent their lives fighting over nothing, so now they would have something of importance to fight over. Blutarch hired a team of nine mercenaries to take Redmond's land, but little did he know that Redmond had also hired a crew of nine mercenaries to do the same. Thus began the Gravel Wars, which have been going on for at least 120 years because both Redmond and Blutarch hired a man named Radigan Conagher (Engie's grandfather) to build a machine that could extend their lives so they could outlive each other. The current nine mercs are the most recent group to be hired, and are collectively known as Team Fortress.

PS: Yeah, it's basically all but outright stated that Spy is Scout's dad. The exact nature of Spy's relationship with Scout's mom is unknown, but given that, out of all the photos, he specifically picked the one with them holding hands and walking together to put in his pocket, it seems he does genuinely care about her. Heavy is a refugee who escaped with his family from a Siberian gulag after his father was killed for supposedly being a counter-revolutionary. Soldier is engaged to one of his sisters, much to Heavy's displeasure.

The Soldier is completely bat shit insane because of three reasons: -He grew up in the American Midwest, presumably to an ultra-patriotic, jingoist family that ingrained his obsessive love of America and the ideals that it represents in him, while also regrettably filling him with xenophobic, anti-foreign thoughts, especially towards Germans and Communists (such as Russians, Chinese, Koreans, and Cubans). -In the comics, it's revealed he was never "actually" a soldier (a fact he's deeply ashamed of) and always wanted to fight in a war. However, he was deemed too mentally unstable and hyper-aggressive for even the most conflict-free military posting, leading to him being rejected. Not wanting to be left out from fighting in World War 2, he purchased a plane ticket to Poland, wherein he taught himself in how to operate and fight with government-issued army grade weapons and equipment, going on a one-man killing spree for which he awarded himself several medals, slaughtering thousands of 'Nazis' until hearing that the war had ended... in 1949 (if it doesn't immediately tell you what you need to know about Soldier, WW2 ended in 1945, at least 4 years prior to Soldier's arrival); during which time, he killed a bunch of foreign-sounding people who he believed to be the enemy, primarily Germans, Poles, Czechs, and Lithuanians. He has a voiceline where he claims he killed a German guy for asking him directions, of which he is proud. -After being picked up by MannCo (the company responsible for hiring the team of mercenaries), he was stationed at Twofort, and proceeded to drink directly from the river water there, in spite of the fact that the rest of his team was given bottled water by the MannCo executives, because MannCo knew that the water was laced with lead and other chemical runoff (which is why the people of Twofort, in addition to Soldier himself, display the typical signs of lead-poisoning: Irritability, Paranoia, Short-Term Memory Problems, and Heightened Aggressiveness).

I know the comics aren't necessarily 100% canon, but they are made with Valve's approval and some of the stuff mentioned in there (such as the Red Soldiers friendship with the Blu Demoman, where after killing a Blu Demoman Soldier will pretend to gloat, but then under his breath apologize and hope they can meet up afterwards) are, in one way or another referenced.

Contrary to being op, the spy is the weakest of the mercinaries besides the medic in a fight- but the medic provides a benefit to team mates by being in a fight. Spy pretty much needs to stay hidden until people are distracted, then 1-shot them with a backstab.

Every class has several alternative weapons for every inventory slot (primary, secondary, melee). One of heavy's secondaries is the Sandwich, wich heals you to full health. He also has 3 other "lunchbox" items, The Buffalo Steak Sandwich, which gives him critical hits for a certain time, but only lets him use melee, the Dalokahs Bar, which heals over time, but also gives overheal, something the Sandvich does not, and the Secondary Banana, which heals you up to only 200 health in exchange for the cool down being only 10 seconds instead of the regular 30.

as far as basic worldbuilding lore, the events of the game start in the late 1960s and revolve around two brothers fighting over property rights of gravel industry in regards to the bot situation, it lasted around 2 years if i recall and the worst of it ended around june of this year i believe. bots are still around and getting a full clean match outside of prime time can be a little annoying depending on the region you're in but it's definitely way better than it was 6 months ago

Still wouldn't recommend playing casual matches, just go to community servers there are plenty of them that are actually good and definitely avoid competitive because it sucks in it's current state and tbh not a lot of people play comp especially because of its many flaws which us why its not at its best state, hopefully if the game actually has a future they would update it rather than just update localization files for another 69,000th time

I think the most sane of the 9 Mercs is Spy, with Sniper being a VERY close 2nd. They’re both Assassins, not Mercenaries. Contracted alongside Mercenaries, but still far more professional than the rest. Engineer is also a good candidate for most sane, though he did saw off his own hand to replace it with a robot one so it’s safe to assume he has at least a few screws loose.

Yes, the Spy is Scout's father. This was confirmed in the Team Fortress comic series. Yes, the Sandvich is an edible device & it acts as health recovery, like a first aid kit or potion in other games. Yes, Soldier is an idiot. At first, the Team Bases were equipped with lead pipes & they all started developing lead poisoning. Them the Administrator (during the game, that's the voice coming over the loudspeakers) had bottled water shipped in regularly. However, Soldier is the only one who kept drinking the contaminated water.

The Sancvich was the first of a class of items called lunchboxes. It can heal the Heavy, who has by far the largest health pool in the game, from 1 hp to full health in just a few seconds. He can also throw it on the ground to act as a health pack for allies.

A few fun facts about the characters not shown in meet the team: - Scout is the youngest of 7 brothers, and is fast because he had to learn to evade street fights. Its also implied everyone in Boston can double jump. - Scout is under the false impression that singer Tom Jones is his father. - It's implied that scout is a sex offender... - Soldier was never actually a soldier. He was deemed too insane, so he went to Germany to fight the Nazis himself.... In the process committing genocide against german civilians. - Demoman's blood is pure alcohol, with no water. - Heavy has a PHD in Russian Literature, and is much smarter than he lets on. He and his family escaped from a Russian gulag and came to America, which is how he became a mercenary. (the game is set in the late 60s). - Sniper uses his piss as a weapon ingame. You can use "Jarate" (Jar based karate/pee jars) to coat enemies to take mini-crit damage, extingush teamates and expose cloaked spies. - Medic sold his soul to Satan...

The sanwich video is the free to play announcement. And the crazy ones are soldier pyro because pyromaniac and medic on a low key note. More of no morals and uses team as experiments because he wanted in on the gore. All of them are contract killers so it does get dark in the lore and will act cold. The most level headed one is engi and doesn’t outright insult other mercs. And sniper is in fact New Zealand but that sunk like Atlantis and he was raised in australia

To explain each mercenary's general gameplay: *Scout:* Can move around faster than anyone else can, can midair-jump, and is strong at close-range with his bat and scattergun. *Soldier:* An all-arounder with a rocket launcher for long-range explosive attacks and "rocket-jumping". *Pyro:* Deals continuous damage and afterburn with flamethrower, and can deflect most projectiles with an airblast. *Heavy:* Deals big damage over a long range with minigun, and has the most base HP. Can also heal himself with Sandvich. *Demoman:* Uses bouncing grenades and stationary sticky bombs. Some equips let him use a melee shield-bashing build. *Engineer:* Supports his team and base with automated sentry guns, healing dispensers, and teleporters. *Sniper:* A long-range specialist who can one-shot enemies with a sniper rifle headshot. Bit weak in close-range, but can use Jarate to debuff enemies. *Medic:* A dedicated healer who can also build up power for an Ubercharge, a powerful temporary buff (like invulnerability, all critical hits, and even faster recovery). *Spy:* An opportunist who uses invisibility and disguises to get past enemies without notice, and then saps Engineer's machines and backstabs foes.

The thing about the sandwich is that all the videos were supposed to show off everything about the characters and they forgot the self healing sandwich item The Heavy has, so Meet The Sandvich came out. Pretty much everything you see in the Meet The series are things you can do in game and are the core elements of the character. But like I said, they forgot the self healing of The Heavy.

0:44 3 months ago...? No they started happening around 2020. Which is almost 3 _years_ ago at this point... But yeah, I'd reccomend the game to you... if there weren't a lot of beep boops spamming 150 damage attacks from another country. Lazypurple's "How It FEELS To Play" TF2 series should give you some insight into how good the game is, though. 6:09 Pyro isn't overpowered by any stretch of the imagination but he can certainly do some VERY cool things. Few classes can turn half of an 8 second Invincibility timer into a quad kill. Others include the one you're about to see in a few seconds. 9:15 Heavy needs a buff ngl But he is fun. I got my first hackusation as Heavy. One thing to note is that people playing the game for free can not TALK. Seriously they used to be able to and then Valve said "Ah yes, Ham! This'll kill him!" to the bots and who would have guessed, it did literally nothing. At the time my account was a Free To Play account and being a F2P meant I couldn't respond to the hackusation but I was absolutely a sentient player. I nodded to my teammates, defended the base rather than attacking, gave them food (Heavy gets a Sandvich he can give to other people), etc. I literally was being a team player. Tell me the last time a hacker has been a team player.

The Sandvich can be chosen to replace the Heavy's secondary weapon (usually a shotgun). It gives the Heavy the ability to heal himself without a Medic available.

Not really the reactors fault, someone just had the bright as a dirty dim bulb idea to set the videos in order of ingame character selection. So all the Attack classes first, Defense second, Support third. And yes, it is stupid.

the sandwich is indeed an item the heavy can equip as a secondary, eating the sandwich temporarily freezes you in place while it heals you back to full health, after which there is a cool down period for which it can not be used. alternatively heavy can throw his sandwich so other classes can use it. also if a heavy is killed while eating a sandwich, he drops that sandwich, which can then be used by the one who discovered the eating heavy. soldier and pyro are certifiably insane, soldier suffers from chronic lead poisoning and pyro is actually a pyromaniac, as you can see during meet the medic pyro is playing with a lighter and the magazines in the medics waiting room, he is not really delusional. also keep in mind those are red team members talking about red pyro, his own team mates are scared of him. demoman is actually so addicted to alcohol that his body can metabolize it as food, this however makes it so actual food makes him sick (he can still eat a heavies sandwich in game though, probably for balance reasons), one of his eye sockets is cursed, which is why medic has given up on trying to restore his missing eye. medic and engineer are obviously very intelligent, but contrary to what you might think, the heavy is actually much more highly educated than his stature and his lack of mastery of the english language would lead you to believe. red spy is indeed scouts father, his video is also unique because it is mostly blue team talking about him, as a spy would never choose to speak about himself.

Sandvich.. not Sandwich... you have to get it right. It doesn't heal you to full health, it gives you 120 health back and the heavy has the most health in the game, whom has 300 health naturally.. up to 400 via other means.
