When I was growing up 6 seconds 0-60 was the benchmark for regular sports cars. Anything significantly faster than that was considered supercar or modified territory, which went into several hundred thousand dollars in today's money. With a few costing several hundred grands in that day's money, and into the millions in today's money. And of those anything under 4.5 was considered supercar territory, especially anything under 4 seconds. And most of the modified were not even street legal. To get a car that can do 0-60 in 2.9 seconds costing $45,490 in TODAY'S money is unbelievable. If you said that to anyone 30 or 40 years ago that a car that could do that went for $45,490 then, they would have called you crazy. That would have been found only on exotic supercar territory going for the highest prices that only high end multi-millionaires or higher could afford. And what is $45,490 in inflation adjusted money 30 or 40 years ago? In the $20,000 range? Think about that. Think about being able to buy a car that can do 0-60 in 2.9 seconds for around $20,000 dollars 30 years ago.

I saw that this car got 2.9 w/o rollout on the autotrader video. That would make this almost half second quicker, plus keeps pulling hard long after 70. Add in the way better handling and adaptive suspension, better brakes, cool new bucket seats, front spoiler, qualifies for the tax credit. This thing costs less than a LRM3 did 2 years ago. This value is...ludicrous. If they made it any faster the Model S would be discontinued basically tomorrow because nobody would buy it. They added in almost every checkbox i could ask for in a performance model. The only things I wish they'd add to the performance would be brake caliper color options & wheel options. If they added in a HUD option to all their models there would be really nothing left to even want (unless you really want stalks).

The Cybertruck is not such good value - today - because it's a generation one design, so will take a few years to be optimised. August 8 will be interesting, although to avoid Osborning the 3 and Y, am sure it will be an FSD + Prototype something demo, a bit like the 2019 Cybertruck intro. And whatever it is, won't be a 2+2 type vehicle, more, a hot hatch design for 1+1 or 1+0 passengers, with a spacious rear for luggage or shopping and limited rear leg room. The upcoming electric Mercedes-Benz CLA AMG will come with 400kW/536hp (544PS), 800V architecture, HUD, LIDAR and has a way better range with about 350 miles EPA (standard CLA will have 400 miles EPA). Model 3 is cheaper but offers way less. I think that is the right way for Tesla. Tesla is not a premium manufacturer but rather builds good performance-for-money EVs (not value-for-money because power alone is not everything in a car, better build and interior quality as well as tech functions like HUD, 800V, LIDAR can also mean value).
