one cool feature the coppermind has is a time machine feature. if you're reading the books in release order you can set the wiki to look exactly as it did at a certain date/year or before a certain book came out. only really works after you've read the earliest stuff, but I used it a couple years back when I was catching up

@Bookborn7 ай бұрын
Look, I've read a lot, George is pretty much one of the best fantasy prose writers I've ever read and I"ll stand by it. So the adjustment will be large because people don't read sanderson for his prose, which is really no frills and basic. However, if you like the scale of ASOIAF and Dune, then you'll love the scale of Sanderson's books. He also has some great characters that people really resonate with which is a common thing people love about ASOIAF. I think starting with Way of Kings would be a good place for you since you're already into the epic stuff.

@@Bookborn You guys are right. I should stop preventing myself from reading a great book series because "the cosmere universe"seems like a lot to buy and read. I don't need to catch up. I should read in my own pace. With" TWOT" I bought the whole book series before starting reading it. Clearly, I won't be able to do that with the cosmere universe, so I'm going to start with the "stormlight archive series". I always wanted to read that one.

am glad you are making videos to help newer fantasy readers. once you finish a dance with dragons i would love to see your comparison of george's writing and story crafting to bransan's. i know brandon has said he wouldent finish asoiaf if/when george dies before finishing it. i wonder if their are some authors you know who is capable of doing the series justice?
@Bookborn7 ай бұрын
Well George has been pretty vocal about not wanting anyone to finish the series! So hopefully they respect that. That being said I think Abercrombie is the only one close to who could finish it well.
@ethanbrown41677 ай бұрын
@@Bookborn awsome. i personally feel like that request from george is too much to ask for and us fans deserve someone more talented then dan and dave (the showrunners) interpritation of the ending. how has your reading of a dance with dragons going? have you started it?

Great video! Seeing the pile of D&D 5e books behind you, I wonder how you feel about the recent trend of TTRPGs based on book series and/or tv series. I guess with your deep lore knowledge, you could be a great GM for a cosmere-based game! Do you think you'll ever do any RPG content related to the books you normally discuss?
@Bookborn7 ай бұрын
I've thought about (and even dabbled in) doing RPG content in the past because I love playing so much! But I feel like that space just already has SUCH good content in it and I just wouldn't measure up to that. Awhile ago we thought of putting a fun booktuber one-shot together and maybe I'll still make that a reality.

@@Multiklaaas I have to admit - I've basically only played D&D 5e and some pathfinder, so I haven't tried any of the IP RPGs

I just got into him last year reading Mistborn and then didn't realize that his book universe was so gigantic or how deep the hole goes. 😂 But I'm working my way through Stormlight now and hope to get through those novels before December. Just finished Words of Radiance and loved it. Only two novellas and two TOMES to go. 😂

New fan here! Do you have a recommended reading order for the books? Or at least the best place to start?
@aliciasorenson38077 ай бұрын
She believes you can start anywhere and be fine, but if you search here on KZbin for a Cosmere reading order video, you will find many. I believe Captured in Words or Library of a Viking have videos on it.

I started about 2 years ago and started with Mistborn, I think that’s a good spot. I’ve also heard starting with Elantris is good, but having read that one, I feel like it’s not as compelling as Mistborn. I think either way you start, I’m excited for you! Lol

I started reading the Farseer trilogy by Robin Hobb, and every single thing I looked up had spoilers for future series 🙄 thanks for letting us know that Sanderson’s books are like that too.

Did he set out to create the Cosmere when he wrote his first books like Elantris? Or did it just sort of develop organically for him as he kept writing more?
@Bookborn7 ай бұрын
He did! Or at least, he always knew he wanted them to be connected, but he didn't sell it that way irrc because he didn't think people would be on board. I definitely heard him talk about this once, I just can't remember where.

I just finished Mistborn Era 1, and I’m still a bit confused on where all the info on Shards, Adonalsium part of Scadrial, etc.. is from. I’m trusting that gaps will all be filled in as needed with time, or that a lot of this was from WoB. Otherwise I missed a lot of things 😂😂 Without going into spoilers, I do see how this stuff does fits with the ending of era 1 though.
@Bookborn7 ай бұрын
You def would not have gotten any of that from just Mistborn era 1!! I honestly wouldn’t worry too much about Cosmere until you have read one or two more different books!

I haven't read any Sanderson yet, but this sounds a lot like Magic: The Gathering and planeswalkers. I should really check out these series.

Mind blown at the beginning! So since the 🌌 Milky Way Galaxy hosts our own Sol System and it would take equivalent of lifetimes to travel one end to another. Mistborn is essentially the Andromeda Galaxy to Way of Kings' Sol System? And not Solar Systems of the same Galaxy? 😢🎉😮 mind blown! 🎉 🌟 📖 📚
@MisterSketch47 ай бұрын
I think Brandon has stated that the entire Cosmere is on the same scale as a dwarf galaxy. That would imply to me that all the planetary systems like Selish, Scardian, Rosharan, etc. are just solar systems within a single smallish galaxy.

I started to read Brandon Sanderson's novels two months ago because people said they are so good. Two weeks ago i finished Final Empire. Now i'm reading Well of Ascension. Love that first book of Mistborn, though i'm still little bit confused about the magic system, especially steelpushing and ironpulling. But as someone totally new to Brandon Sanderson Fandom, Final Empire is a good start for me to fall in love with his work... (I'm nearly finish the second novel. It's not as good as Final Empire imo, tho)

When I started sandersons cosmere I got even more excited finding out there were a lot of them at this point in my life I have finished 3 series, honor harrington (14 books) safehold (10 books currently) and dune (17 book including expanded universe) and Tolkien’s work (not sure how many are in it) so I’ve not been intimidated or overwhelmed by book series….. although if it were a show or series of shows then I would be overwhelmed then 😅😅 shows tend to overwhelm me because they are just so much quicker and I can’t keep up to date.
