You are so right about steps! I did administrative steps but never been to the newcomer services. This is probably I never get away from feeling lost and lonely. I got job and apartment prior coming but got lost and recover from it. As ex-Canadian PR and ex-Torontonian I can say to all newcomers: follow those steps.

Able to exchange large amounts of cash. Open 24 hours a day. 7 days a week. 365 days a year. Please in your research of Toronto neighbourhoods. Include access to P.A.T.H. Well done! I guess you have covered almost everything somebody will be needed during the very first weeks in Canada. ( Although, for those they are familiar with the most world widely alcohol purchasing practices depending on the area they are settling down the might surprise themselves in provinces such as ontario)
@MakeThatChange3 жыл бұрын
thanks John! What about purchasing alcohol in Ontario?
@johnstakos18753 жыл бұрын
@@MakeThatChange I guess you can tell the difference since you have lived in Quebec. In ontario you can only buy alcohol from government ruled stores (LCBO, beer stores). It's been just a couple of years since big grocery stores in ontario have been given a licence to sell alcohol based products. Just before that it was like a dystopian world. Nothing is in common with Quebec :)

Hi, I love your videos. I will be reaching Toronto this month. How long does it take to open a bank account and get a debit card?
@MakeThatChange14 күн бұрын
Reach your accommodation and schedule a meeting in the nearest bank of your choice. It can be done online. Opening an account itslef is fairly quickly, can be done within an hour. Some banks allow newcomers to open their first account online too. Best of luck!
@dr.deepthyprakash672614 күн бұрын
@ Which banks would you suggest for Pr holders?
@MakeThatChange14 күн бұрын
There are only 5 big banks in Canada: Royal Bank of Canada (RBC), Toronto-Dominion Bank (TD), the Bank of Montreal (BMO), the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC), and Scotiabank. Check out their websites, it's not a lot. All of them should have some kind of an offer for newcomers to open chequing and savings accounts. All of their offers are plus-minus the same, as they compete for new clients, so you pretty much can't go wrong. I will also add that the big banks typically charge monthly fees to have a bank account. However, they often waive those fees for the first year for newcomers. There are also some online banks that do not charge monthly fee fees. But they do not have actual physical locations that you can visit. They are entirely online. For example: Simplii financial, Tangerine, Neo. Neo also offers prepaid credit card that's great for newcomers to start building credit history.
