Definitely a lot of options. Something to keep in mind, if you're just a fan of retro games, and by retro I mean primarily 2D pre 1998 stuff, any of the mentioned sub $70 devices will work wonderfully. You definitely don't need to spend more than $70 for retro emulation.

So, I'm definitely new to this retro gaming deal. I've been out of the gaming world since I had kids a decade ago. I'm gonna pick up one of the cheaper handheld. (Looking at thr miyoo mini when I can find one.) Anyways, I currently don't have a laptop to mod anything. I have a chromebook. Will I be able to use that or should I find a cheap laptop?
@Agumon5
@Agumon5 Жыл бұрын
@@Josh-lq5rw I probably wouldn't even recommend a Miyoo Mini at this point. The new Mini + has replaced the original because they ran out of parts to make the original. Don't expect the actual mini to be back in stock again. I would actually probably recommend the ANBERNIC RG35XX. It will be much easier to pick up than any of the Miyoo devices, you will not have to pay scalped prices, and it basically works exactly the same as a mini plus. You can even install a similar custom operating system, Garlic OS. In terms of getting games, I've never used a Chromebook, so no idea.
@ShadyRapture
@ShadyRapture Жыл бұрын
If you’re interested in pre 1998 any old device with a Bluetooth controller will do. Even an older pc or laptop. If you have an android phone it can run any of that. Otherwise I’d wait for the miyoo mini +. You want something nicer the Anbernic 353m is good, albeit a little confusing.
@Agumon5

@@ShadyRapture Its a nice looking device, but I definitely would not recommend it because of its questionable build quality. If you check out the subreddit for Miyoo you will see that the devices have a LOT of quality control issues.

I ordered an RP3+ last month. I figured I'll make my way through all of the N64 catalog that I never got to play as a kid, and then replay some PS2. By the time I'm done, the $250 and down market will likely be able to emulate better consoles and ill consider something new. I want it to fit in my pocket, I don't mind waiting on the tech since I have hundreds of games to play on consoles I couldn't afford as a child.

Can we all just agree that the Retroid Pocket 3+ is so appealing? Like, I couldn't resist at that price and ordered one just based on the beautiful design and color schemes + the fact that it's literally an android device with eye candy controllers built in and I currently have an iPhone. And they just recently did a firmware update that improves the GameCube performance so now I can imagine that it will get even better in the following months. And if they release a Retroid Pocket 4 in the next few months and it looks similar but with improved performance for $200 or so I'll still buy it. Even if it's upwards of $300 as long as I can run most GameCube games flawlessly I'll be super happy especially if the battery life is anything like 6+ hours.

Been following this channel and scene for the past couple years and it's been an awesome hobby. First purchase was the RG351M followed by a Kishi 1st gen for the Android phone. Then got a RP2+. The three I've settled on since stem from 3 categories. The Steam Deck, RP3+, and Miyoo Mini. I have trouble seeing a better 3 device combo right now. Covers power, portable, and pocket. I haven't had much desire to buy since I get this set but sure something else will come along. Probably the steam deck 2 and rp4, lol.

Make sure you get a NEW 3ds and not an old/original one. I got the latter on Amazon by mistake because I didn't know that by "new" they meant a generation and not just one that wasn't used by anyone. In the n3ds you can also change the shell which is pretty neat. As for what it can play I recommend just looking for the full list on Reddit

I just pulled the trigger on a steam deck, and some of this channels content helped in that decision. The deck being such an open platform lends itself to a wide range of uses beyond gaming. While the battery life isnt the greatest compared to the other handhelds, that it can run off a battery at all and recharge off usb puts it above PCs in other use cases including emergencies or low power living.

I realized my phone is pretty new so I tested it up to GameCube and it runs great. So, having already owned the phone and controller, I spent 10 bucks on the clip and stuffed my phone with emulators and roms. These all look fun but if you have a powerful enough phone you can accomplish the same thing as many of the mid range models for significantly less. That being said if you have the extra scratch and want that experience in a separate device, this is the channel to watch.

handhelds are great..... but i was immediately distracted by the music. the album is fire. Our Ghosts is killing it! Thank you for including the bandcamp links :D (AND, its beautiful to see artists still doing beautiful things with the creative commons license)

Love this site, as someone that had a 3g vita from launch this site has been a god send for emulation. Keep up the good work!

For me, I own both a Steam Deck and an Ayn Odin Lite and they compliment eachother very well. My Steam Deck is for PC games when I got enough time to relax somewhere and play comfortably for an hour or more, and my Odin Lite is for emulation, longer trips or even a short session with it's amazing battery life, and easy portability. Plus the 1080p and better colors of the Odin Lite screen makes me *only* want to play Retro games on it, I never emulate on my Steam Deck. I feel like I'm "wasting potential" if I do so, so many other devices can emulate games just fine. I would probably emulate more if Dolphin actually properly worked

@Retro Game Corps- wow, you really made this clear and easy to understand. This space has gotten over saturated very quickly so its not to have some easy to follow info. Thanks again! Subbed

I was getting into handheld gaming because my back is starting to hurt from all the years spent gaming on a desktop, but ever since I saw how everything is easily emulated on the Steam Deck (even some lighter PS3 games run flawlessly on it) and how the software is advancing rapidly, I didn't think about spending my money on anything else. The Steam Deck is cheap, easy to setup, and can do basically everything. I'll only run my desktop for AAA games that are hard to run.

In my country Syria, we have been suffering from earthquakes since the 6th of February, yet your channel has been my sanctuary. I have watched your videos over and over again which made me really lose the tension. Thank you so much for what you are doing. I have a question for you. Is there a way to play ps3 games and Xbox 360 games on any of the handhelds consoles? And if yes how much does this console cost? Pray for us 🇸🇾☮️

Hi Ahmen, I hope you and your loved ones are doing well. For PS3 and Xbox 360, those are difficult to emulate, and so only the high-end handheld PCs will run those systems, so something like the GPD Win 4 or the AYANEO 2. Those start at about $900 USD, so definitely not cheap!

Thanks for thee video. I am not new, but I tend to watch most of your videos anyway. One other device I'd mention is the Evercade. It's for users who want to physically own the games they play. The downside is that your limited to owning the games that have been released so far. You also obviously have to buy the games though they're pretty cheap. You'll get a cartridge for like 20$ that will have 6-12 ish games on it. My favorites are the rg353, the evercade, and a gba with an ips screen mod. Cheers.

Loved the video and music. One thing that would be useful is to give some perspective for these devices. I think your whole point of view would use these handhelds as a standalone console. I think that an ayaneo 2 or GPD win 4 can fully replace a pc with a dock and eGPU, this is something unique to x86, like android handheld can play the android ecosystem scams (I mean, "games")
