Glad the VB is back together. I did my fist transmission swap in 1989 as a 16 year old hot rodder. I know breaking stuff sucks but it caused me to gain so much knowledge by doing that. 😆

100% agree! I did my first transmission when I was 17 on my 1997 Eagle Talon. Then my first engine when I was 18 on my 1998 Ecliose GST. Just sucking it up and doing it yourself is so scary at first but like you said you learn how to do it. If you haven't seen my "Building a 1999 Eclipse GSX in 10 minutes" video, I basically tested all my knowledge over the years and surprised myself building the car from a shell doing the paint, bodywork, electrical, and Drivetrain all by myself. Almost 19 years after buying my first Eclipse that i was scared to work on. It was an amazing experience seeing how far over come! That's why I started making videos to try to help give confidence to people who were scared like I was.

@scottbeauchene8868 to me it sounds like a throw out bearing. Did you re-use your factory bearing or did you use the act one?

Same exact thing happened to me on my VA except I was fully back together before I noticed. If the clip is in you can fix it without pulling the trans back off. Pull the fork boot. Grab the fork with a vice grip. Put a large flat head into the space within the vice grips teeth above where it's grabbing the fork and pivot against the pitch stop bracket to pry the fork up. The force that the pressure plate is putting on the fork plus the vice grips pulling up should pop the pivot ball back into the cup of the fork. I think I caused mine to fall out when I jacked the trans back up into the car. I think I pushed the fork down because it hit the bottom of the car going back in. I was so relieved when it popped in. I was not feeling pulling it all apart again.

My act throw out bearing has been okay so far. I had issues with my oem clutch fork breaking and the pivot ball breaking as well which both caused noise but never had oem bearing issues

I definitely like the clutch. I prefer the heavier pedal feel over oem. I used this same setup on my old wrx also and loved it.

All I have to add is I'd have replaced the TO bearing with a brand new OE one as well as the fork pivot ball and pilot bearing while everything was apart. I put Motul 300 in my '22 in both the transmission/diff and rear end and I'm impressed- shifts smoother now. The OE Subaru gear oil listed in the manual was only available from the dealer in a 5 gallon bucket 🤨

I would've but with such low mileage on the swap and seeing the grease on the pivot ball looked super clean I didn't bother. And I heard some others say that too! But the dealer didn't even hesitate when I asked for it.

Do you think it's worth to change clutch and fly wheel for aftermarket in order to make transmission more reliable? My VB is completely stock.

I don't think changing the clutch or flywheel will help keep the transmission from breaking. The only thing that will prevent a broken transmission on these cars is keeping it stock and or avoiding hard driving.

Hey man, I’ve been watching your videos since the 2020 WRX and saw you’ve changed the clutch a few times in your VA and VB. Just got mine done today and wanted to know if the 1st gear and reverse engagement vibration is normal for the break in period? Thnx

I actually always had jitters with this clutch. Had the same one on my 2015 VA, my 2020 VA with sti swap, amd my VB. And all of them sort of shuttered on Acceleration in 1st and reverse. I found the only thing that helped was Revving the rpms a little higher, and upgrading all the mounts (but that will add a lot more noise to the cabin)

@@StreetInspired1 I’ve done a good majority of the stiffening mods, pitch stop, group N trans mount, positive shift kit bushings, rear diff bushings etc. I kind of feel like it might be the difference in the light weight flywheel and OEM. Just like you said needs to be in a higher RPM on initial engagement because of the less rotational inertia. Probably just gotta get used to it probably. What about the chatter on Decel, did it go away?

@travisquire3386 definitely the Flywheel makes quite a difference. But the chatter on decel sticks around. The clutch and Flywheel combined really make it noisy haha

I haven't yet but I won't get on it until I do. I also have to break in the clutch for a couple hundred miles. But I do plan on dialing back quite a bit

Just remember, no e85 maps until you have the money for a STI transmission swap. I also have a 2022 6speed chilling in my garage forsale but not sure if I want to deal with shipping.

E85 by itself isn't going to grenade the trans though. You can still run e85 and just turn the power down. And yeah I've been told it costs about $1,000 to ship them and it's a huge hassle so that makes it not very profitable.

I'm glad you got the car back together, but I'd be lying if I didn't say I wasn't disappointed you didnt sti swap it. Seems like in the end it would have been cheaper to go straight to the sti swap instead of another wrx first. But its your money.

Maybe long term, but it would've definitely been more expensive to get the sti swap, and I don't have a second vehicle. I had to do what I had to do to get the car on the road asap. Would've been without a car for probably another 2 months

@@StreetInspired1 how many STI transmissions are there out there in the world available? What's the ratio of STI versions to standard WRX over the years anyways- wild ass guess one out of ten? Supply vs demand is going to be a factor if it isn't already.

My throwout bearing went out at 12k miles. Now I have no 6th or reverse today. I'm about done with this car. It's stock and had been making a whining noise in 6th around the same time after they did the clutch.

Some people got so butt hurt over my original review of this car. I want to love it and there's a lot I like about it but you can just see how much subaru doesn't care when stock cars are having issues and it's the same recycled parts from the last few generations.

My transmission went out. The synchros escalated and now it finally left the chat. I bought same 2016 wrx transmission. But I’m like freaking out because I’m like what if I have the same problem the synchro going to go out on me😰 but part of me thinks…My entire faith and believe is like nah, this trans is going to last multiple years to come. This time I’m starting it with two bottles of light weight shock proof and two bottles of oem. I have that same kit. I need to send a 50 plus ethanol log and I’m like I just got the new trans. It gots 51k miles, the transmission.

You've go too much clutch for your torque rating. I've had all the clutches in my 480WTQ STi, ACT comp, extreme, and Mod twin. The pedal effort for the extreme was well, extreme and caused wear on my thrust bearing. The comp held the torque just fine. I've got the Mod Twin and it's great.

thats crazy you would risk your life instead of getting different tools that could more easily lift the car higher. I think id rather have the different jacks and jack stands instead of dying a horrible slow death. I hope you consider your safety more next time jesus.

It wasn't as sketchy as I made it sound. I wasn't physically under the car with the wood blocks. The car was on 4 jack stands and I lifted one side with the wood blocks just enough to slide the transmission under the car and then sat it back down on the stands. I would've never climbed under and worked on the car without proper support.
