Sounds great your state is actually trying to let you guys control predators. I'd personally like to see raccoon season all year long here in Ohio..and any bobcat season would be nice. Window lickers are still protecting these cats but we just got knocked down to a one goobler a year state. Common sense doesn't exist here.

Good beaver!! In Arkansas we can trap coyotes fox bobcat coon oppsum skunk. Yr around on private land. On public land season opens up September 1 st thru February 28th. But beaver and muskrats runs until March 31st.

I totally agree with you about the problem with the state regulations on trapping. They need to open up public area to you guys. Here in Nevada we have access to public lands for trapping. It is a smarter approach to trimming the ever growing number of animals that are killing off your game. The reality is if we didn't trap here in Nevada we wouldn't have half of the animal population we have. The other thing that most people who don't trap or are against trapping is we don't have rabies here in Nevada because we are doing a fairly good job with trapping as well as other methods of controlling the population of the animals that get rabies. Every state around Nevada has a rabies epidemic because they fail to help the people who trap in different ways. That are effect the trapping community, and make it so difficult for us to do what is needed in a appropriate manner. You can't have stupid laws against trapping methods such as not enough time in between people having to check traps etc. Then people who do trap don't travel around to different places because they have to check their traps so often. People around the Las Vegas area are having fun with coyotes blazingly killing their pets as they are trying to take them out for a walk. Because they have out lawed trapping around the metropolitan areas. They also have shortened their trapping hours to the point where people are just giving up on trapping because their isn't enough hours in a day. It time for the community and fish and game to start listening to the trapping community before it becomes a lost art. If it does it will mean that most of the good animals will be eliminated from predators. Because of the vast amounts of over population of predators the good animals as well as the predators will die because there won't be enough food supply for the predators after they have killed off the good animals. Thus having more domesticated animals becoming pray for these wild predators. Causing massive damage to the farmers and ranchers, as well as those who's pets become coyotes food. We now have wolves that are destroying our elk and deer populations, because of the woke people thinking that it would be a good idea to reintroduce them in Idaho and Montana and other states. These are not the wolves that were here in the past. But much larger and are the ultimate killing machines. We need to start having more control of these predators or risk losing a huge portion of our deer and elk populations.

The length of the Season isn't the problem low fur prices, and not allowing trapping on some and limited trapping on some conservation areas is the problem. I mean who is gonna go run a line just to throw everything in the ditch (because of fur being no good) unless it is causing damage and in that case you don't need a Season

I always felt super bad whenever I found someones dog in a trap and I usually knew the dogs too from my area. Cats I'd pop pop between the eyes as in Oz we have a massive problem with feral cats. An extended season on nest predators can only be a good thing for the local bird populations - I understand that there might not be any money in the coons themselves, but personally I'd just enjoy the feeling that I was doing something positive for the local game numbers. As for trapping public land - I'm jealous of you in that as here in Queensland we cannot hunt/trap/camp public land at all. If I want to go bag a deer (we've got reds and sambar/rusa/axis) I need to go to private property only. The only upside to deer hunting here is that just about no one does it and there's no tags, because they're a declared pest, and no season.

Trappers can be the first line in noticing changes in the environment. We are out there every day walking the same areas, and the more ground we trap, the more we see. I see something really wrong going on in my region, but DNR seems to have no concern. Could be that most trappers here are in the more pristine parts of the state, but that does not explain the loss of muskrats in so much of PA! Maybe the areas hit worst are the ones that experienced the most development in the last 40 years. I'd say same here. My area also has a problem with a low population of raccoon, possum. and skunk ( and it's not trappers and hunters killing them all), and the beaver population never expands like it should be. Plenty of red fox, mink and yotes though! Turkeys are trying very hard, but the red foxes and yotes...! Beavers probably get shot by idiot deer hunters all too often (I have been told of it), but pollution might be getting them too. All these environmentalists and nature enthusiasts, but would they want to listen to a trapper? Probably not, as all too many of them are peta idiots. We have some endangered turtle here and I offered that I could trap coon, etc that may be in the areas they are found, and got a cold response. Maybe I mentioned otters eating baby turtles, and everyone knows river otters are sacred like bobcats and wolves...( I would love to fill my limit of 10 otters though! I'll happily stick 330's and big footholds in the water, below the banks with the DP's)

I got busy with stuff,so I'll comment on the new regulations now that I have time. First ,the only thing I heard was raccoon trapping in August? Did I miss other stuff? Oh yeah I see ,they extended the season 15 days? Big whoopy, makes little difference ,they got too many protections on them ,like permits,no leg holds ect. I'd stop, let them explode till they start talking bounties to pay for the expense of what they let the activists do! My comment would be that wildlife is so over populated because the fur market has been down since 1980's, & activists play guilt & pressures on people who wear fur as well as assault the fur industry in general. Wildlife is so over populated that the damage they do is mounting & we have been put in facemasks for over 2yrs while we watch economies struggle world wide. Fur market is a world wide market so that makes sense that shit is busting loose every where. No one is trapping to speak of, because there is no way to recoup the expenses & yes it's expensive & climbing quickly,as well as very time consuming, & a very hard activity to learn. The furs are worthless any way so August doesnt change that or say non prime fur? Making leather & buckskin is an option. Look,I guess they have to do something to get rid of them though I would much rather see them had under different circumstances! Myself I would not set for them till fall, because the skin isnt even ready for leather yet, they need that late summer, early fall feed up to beef up the derma! I can see why they are doing it,but I think its futile on their part? No money is still no money, & not cost effective ,well I wish them luck cause few if any are going to participate? No one is going to hit them hard till they start putting bounties on them!!! It just cost too much. Next time they wont let activists who "Do Not Trap" influence how trappers are going to control the over populated wildlife, spreading diseases all over hell. Hope they enjoy their face masks.

Those stray dogs will become a Wild pack in less than 5 years. Eat every Rabbit, young calf, Deer fawn and run off every Coyote out of the area. I watched a wild pack of 5 over the time span of 10 years become now a pack of 12 to 18 in my area of south Missouri. Had a violent encounter when all I had was a small 22 pistol. Lucky the shot scared them off. I wouldn't have done too well if they decided to attack. At that time the pack was about 8. There are reports in other states of feral packs killing and eating people. Its becoming a huge problem. These feral packs ain't easy to get rid of. I think the ones on my place are smarter than yotes. Maybe even more elusive than Wolves. They seem to know when you are armed and a threat to them.
