I wanted a long bed, but found a 1999 6-3/4 foot bed super cab SD 4x4 with the V10 a few months ago that I couldn't pass up. But the 8 foot bed is a good thing to watch for in the future LOL....my 87 Ford Ranger has the 7 foot bed, the long beds are nice when you are hauling sheet goods and other building materials. My current 99 SD will serve me fine for now though until the ridiculous auto market cools off...way off.

Mike, we did the EXACT same thing. Unbelievable. I had ordered the 2022 F450 (rapid red btw) in Feb. 2022 and it looked like it was never going to be built. 6 months or so later, still no communication on production/scheduling. I finally gave up and happened to be driving by the Chevy lot and saw a nice black 3500 Chevy loaded up. I caught them as the exact right time, it was a customer order that was cancelled and the last day of the month. I ended up buying it $1k under invoice, which in summer of 2022 was unheard of. Loved the truck. 3 weeks later after now 7 months of communication blackout from Ford, I get an email that my F450 has actually been BUILT! What the hell? Ended up selling the Chevy for $500 more than I paid for it and then because of shipping I didn't get the F450 until Feb. 2023. Crazy story and here you are. I will say though, as nice as the Chevy was, honestly it couldn't ever compare to the F450. Ergonomics, power, shifting, braking, all superior in the F450. Congrats!

I have an 01 F150; 305K miles, 60K of them are mine. I bought it with 244 thousand miles on it. Over the last 6 years, I have had $9100 in repair bills, and right now the truck is sort of like, everything has been rebuilt. It runs great! My cost per mile, using Mikes formula, was 45 cents. An old truck, well maintained ( even the seat) cheaper. And now should have 2 or three years significantly lower maintenance bills. I think of it as perpetual $200 monthly payments.

So in my years of being in landscaping and such, I've ran both Ford, GMC / Chevy. No question each truck will get it done. All it comes down to is personal preference. With my experience, the GMs were slight more friendly on maintenance and less repairs done (outside of regular maintenance items) than the Ford's. I personally like the 8ft bed so I would strongly lean to the Ford. Run both hard and going to WV will give them both the test. Just make a pro and con list for each one as well. Most say go with the 8ft bed, but that adds more to your turning radius, especially towing trailers. In the end, I really think it's going to the truck that you're more comfortable in and best fits your needs. Both will get the job done, but what fits more like glove for you? If your going to eventually get a dump.... keep the GMC because the dump will most likely have a bigger bed. If you need to use the electricity on the trucks...... Ford the way to go.

Agree. Just the way Mike talks about the Ford is a dead giveaway. Can’t wait to see if the Ford with the flatbed trailer can make the circle at the WV property. Couple of “tells”…. Mike wanted the 8’ bed- Ford. Mike loves the 45 gallon fuel tank- Ford. They both love the comfort of the Ford- seemingly better for them. Final selling point- 2K watts in the bed will most definitely come in handy at the cabin. I’ll bet a dollar they stay with the Ford.

I’m going to make a prediction that it will be the Ford. My reasoning is that the colour is fantastic, the interior is nicer than the GM, the 110 volt plug in the box(2000 watts is a lot) and finally the step in the tailgate. As I get older I find that I don’t move as well as I used to so the tailgate step would be a big plus. Have a great one.

I like the green paint on the GMC better. But will be harder to keep looking clean. The Ford is more of a TANK then the GMC. If Ford has a major recall you're stuck with two HD trucks that shouldn't be driven until fixed , ( pickup and dump truck ) , by keeping the GMC you could still pull a heavy load to West Virginia while the Fords are down for repairs . The insurance company decided to total it. I was really upset because it was so low mileage. I really didn't think I was going to get any equity out of it, but then the insurance company offered $36,670 in the settlement mostly because of the used car market caused by chip shortage and the pandemic. That truck cost $36,500 back in 2014, so I essentially drove the truck for 7 years and made $170 dollars. 😁

I have loved this truck and only stopped driving it due to my inability to work the clutch without great effort. I have extremely bad knees and lower back issues and can only drive this a very short distance before I’m in bad pain. Six months after I bought it, I went on vacation from Omaha, NE to PHX, AZ and averaged 17 mpg, checked mileage in town 17 mpg. After 22 years and several thousands of miles I drove to KC, MO to pick up a welder (about 600* lbs) and my mileage was 17 mpg. I’ve been trying to bring myself to sell this, but I just haven’t been able to - it’s got a lot of sentimental value, and, unfortunately, rust. When it comes that time to crunch the numbers make sure to do some research into the breakdown and repair of each. I do delivery for a transmission parts company and see lots of heavy duty fords being repaired and fewer of the GM heavy duty line. Used to be a mechanic so that’s always something I keep in mind, maintenance and repair. Been thinking y’all should do a giveaway for your subscribers and call it “A day with the Morgan’s” just hanging out.

I’d wait for the refresh on the super duty, but there are a few things i love compared to my ordered Chevy 2500. Closed glasses holder. Upfitter switches up top. Pro power onboard. Work station. Max recline and storage under the rear seat.

Awesome looking F-350. I love the interior 2 tone leather. I didn't know that came in the lariat. I'd totally keep the F-350 but I'd never get a duramax to begin with. I've known to many people that have had them & have had nothing but problems. 1 her brand new Chevy 3500 was shipped 500 miles cause the local dealers service centers couldn't figure out why it wouldn't start. It has been in the shop for over a year. I keep telling her to just get your money back cause even though it's been in the shop she still has to pay the $1500 a month payment. (She custom ordered it & it's not basic model). When I upgrade my truck I'm going to get the F-350 but I want the dually so I can tow anything. I've got a 2001 F-250 7.3 powerstroke & I just got a ford explorer ST for my daily driver. Prior my daily driver was a 2017 ford explorer limited. Went from 290 hp to 400 hp. :)

You’ll love the 8 foot box. I made the mistake of buying a short box in the 90’s, never again. Especially pulling a gooseneck or 5th wheel. Which I did both over the years. After years of having fords and having engine issues, in 2018 I purchased a new chevy 3500. So far so good.

Similar story here. Ordered a 23 Lariat the end of January. No emails from Ford. One call from dealer saying its in Ford protocol, the second that status change from 19 to 10 in June. July 17th called dealer, response was since i used X-Plan discount i was moved to end of line and my Lariat will not be built in 23. I would be moved to high priority for a 24 but no price lock or list of options until September. I had enough so I went GMC AT4 order. I will need to wait again, but didn’t have a good experience with my Ford dealer

Mike you are taking dump truck. Realistically, how much are you going to haul, when you have that dump trailer? How about trading up on the dump trailer, or how about taking off the fords ned and replacing it with a dumping landscaper nox like you see on the tental tricks at home depot. Custom paint it to match the cab Works well with the single acle truck, and you can still have a trailer hitch for your trailers. Food for thought. Have aa fay!

Nice vid. What is your opinion on the new diesel/DEF emissions systems? I had my heart set on diesel until i read about all the problems (soot clogs, engine wear with reburning exhaust through engine, etc.), lower power and mileage, and additional costs involved; and now I'm looking at gassers.

@@jaypompano- I would go gas for sure.. the difference between 6.7 litre Diesell and gas engine alone is around $10k. I own a 2022 Silverado 2500 with a long bed, and I still haven't got used to the extra length. It feels different when you turn and parking is something that takes planning. But I will say, to be able to throw in a sheet of plywood or standard 8 foot board and not have any hanging out, is super nice. Love the Ford and makes me want to trade my Chevy in for one now.

I honestly don't think it matters what you buy, they all make good trucks, a lot of it comes down to who gives you the better incentives and deals...and if you take care of it, it'll last a long time...every vehicle out there has its quirks, its how you deal with them that makes or breaks you....many people just ignore small problems until they're stranded somewhere and then its the vehicle's fault, rather than the driver's fault for ignoring the small warning signs prior to the major problem.

Just remember at this stage Ford has changed engines and transmission multiple multiple times in 6-8 years. Lots of issues have cropped up and been well documented. Chevy / GMC has run the duramax / Allison combination for soo long, it’s truly proven. Unfortunately most folks like myself don’t really keep trucks long enough as customers did in the 70s & 80s.
