Definitely seeing the issue with UNR. Lets see how many Beta versions they go through to tighten it up. Shooting on Venice, I see finer blocks of noise that make it somewhat easier to clean up in post, but if Neat maintains it's better performance after DR 19 full version, that might be something BM can re-work in a future update.
@DannyGan9 ай бұрын
Yup, I’m sure it will work with standard/minimal noise just alright. But for problematic clips is where Neat Video really shines. I do hope BMD does tidy it up in the full version. Will make an update video if they do.

I just tried UltraNR for the first time in an ISO setting that's off limits to this camera since the noise becomes so bad that not even "better" or "enhanced" settings can get rid of it. UltraNR made the footage look like it was shot at its base ISO and completely clean with detail brought back. It's absolute magic, but very computationally expensive

seems like Neatvideo made a better selection of noise sample area, would be worth it to compare the tools on the same selection

Neat video is using 11 frames for comparison to create its NR profile. If you use temporal NR on DR, it should have similar results to Neat Video.
@DannyGan9 ай бұрын
Hmm I doubt it will give better results, because it not doing a better job with spatial, so I don’t expect it to get any better with temporal which blurs each frame to achieve less noise. On the topic of this, to compare both tools apples to apples is to use them the same way. I believe they both took 3 clicks in the video. To add more steps for temporal is not a fair comparison anymore. So even if it does give a better results, Neat Video is NOT dead. Just my pov

Hi Danny! Great video. Chroma noise is a truly unpleasant issue. For years, I've shot in RAW on Blackmagic cameras (the original and 4k), and that noise has always driven me crazy. The noise reduction process in DaVinci Resolve is good, but beyond a certain point, the footage starts to lose all detail. The new process "ultra" is better but not perfect, especially if you shoot on higher ISOs. Last year, I took some time to study the process of sharpening images and discovered the helpful role of DCTLS. I came across a combination of tools in a node tree that can better process chroma noise while preserving all the details. So, basically, I make a powergrade that transforms chroma noise into a beautiful grainy texture. Let me send it to you; I believe you will like it.

@JaimeAndresMedia8 ай бұрын
Thank you for this, question: I have been using Neat Video with resolve and the results are great, HOWEVER, when the clip has speed changes (reversed, speed ramps, etc) the noise reduction from Neat Video is not as effective, and it messes up with the timing of the clip, making it jumpy on the first few frames. I have researched everywhere and others experience the same issue but there is no fix other than pre-rendering the speed-ramped clip and applying neat video to the newly created/rendered clip. Have you experienced this? Would love to know if this new version of Resolve fixes that issue

Thank you for this comparison. One thing I noticed is that you used a different area to analyze for the Neat Video NR. Is that something that could make a difference in the outcome?
@DannyGan8 ай бұрын
Yup I’m taking that into account also, for a fair comparison of both, the AI should pick a spot it feels best. You can make an argument that DR noise detection tool is not smart enough to pick an optimal spot. But to be fair, I did the same amount of click to get the presented results. That was my main objective there. Hope this helps to clear things!

Yes, would have been nice to see them analysing the same spot, as of now like you said it's beta so this comparison is flawed from the start
@Docfly626 ай бұрын
@@attainableaudio4533 Exactly..If you manually changed the spot UNR used to the spot Neat "found" and the results was much closer then that would indicate that DR needs to improve the algorithm it uses to find the best reference spot and not the actuall NR engine. Nothing wrong with being flexible in the comparison as long as what you are doing regarding extra steps is communicated 😀
@MTKnockOut25 күн бұрын
wait, why not both
@JimRobinson-colors8 ай бұрын
Interesting that each NR picked a different spot as the optimal spot. I wonder if you moved the analyse box to the same spot that Neat chose, if the detail retention might have been more similar. Also do they both use the internal render cache or is Neat video using it's own render caching? Like most things though, part of the decision making is that the Ultra NR is not something that a person needs to purchase after purchasing Studio, so if you don't need or use very much NR - the added price is also a consideration. I wonder also if you used the temporal NR first ( set it up ) if that would influence how much the Ultra would use in it's analysis? Because if the numbers are lower - it might be faster as well.

is it worth swapping to davinci just for color grading? coming from premiere pro. I purchased davinci studio but im very comfortable with premiere pro. is it worth doing the edit in premiere then bring it into davinci for color grading?
@kenbarnes78538 ай бұрын
@allen7136 I used Premiere for ages but recently switched to DR. I'll never go back. Premiere playback was horrible on my M1 MacBook in any resolution. DR plays everything I throw at it on the edit page smoothly. Some colour effects do slow it down. But most importantly, the ability to go back and forth quickly between edit page and colour page (and any other page) will speed up your workflow enormously. Totally recommend keeping it all in DR although you can certainly do the export to XML and import to DR for grading. It will just need to be done each time you make a change in Premiere Edit. FYI, I changed DaVinci's keyboard setup to match my old Premiere setup so it seems like I'm editing on Premiere to some extent while in DR.
@nm-com8 ай бұрын
I also switched from premiere. Not going back. I still need some muscle memory to get used to editing in dr. Thing is, davinci is a relatively young program, where premiere started in the 90ies. Such old programs might grow with time, and carry lots of unusable junk code with it, version per version. You really feel that in the performance of both tools. Dr is much faster in every aspect. I still use aftereffects and didnt dive into fusion yet. 🙈
