Played it. Enjoyable game, has some tactical nuance even at the simple starter box. I had no issue with the mini's or their assembly. The biggest issue, the readability of the cards and dice for older folks like myself it is tricky at times (orange and red dice in particular, are easily confused), this would be worse if I had color blindness.

True, about the colours. Glad you enjoyed the game. 💪

I'am waiting for the Arquebuse Units. The Dwarfs don't catch me... Arquebuse covered by Bulwark will hit hard.
@thedicegodswg12 күн бұрын
Oh yes. And I think that the Arquebuse unit won't be exactly weak in defence either!

The 250 force shown feels interesting because it feels like AN army versus a small patrol force in Infinity. I think that would be a very fun way to play, and also to see the synergy of buckler/bulwark ebb and flow in battle lines (would it feel similar to a rank and flank or be more like MiddleEarth?) I finally got Winds from the North, and it's hitting a not such good moment in hobby time (painting up old world orks for my first ever O&G army and Las Vegas Open in January, painting up my Menoth for October tourney, and somehow, maybe Bolt Action. Oh and Conquest Wahdrun, because I'm Sisyphus writ hobby).

Oof I know those struggles. N5 coming, Warcrow here, Bolt Action arrives next week whilst making two new tables and starting an escalation league... this is fun, right?!

It's somewhat hilarious to me the gaps that we currently have when you open up the big book and start reading through the Hedgemony. The frostfire mages have rules and lore related to how much they work with their twin (who is the melee specialist) and notes how they're inseparable from them. Drago also gives a speech which begins by stating that the core of the strike forces are going to be Aggressors, acting as the hammer to the anvil. Both of these appear to be coming in the next two releases, but it's interesting to see their lore prominence from the book compared to the release prominence. Meanwhile the book also highlights the orcs a lot, while it looks like the varank are the front and center for a lot of the first wave of the releases. As for the how I think I'm looking at working this army out, I think the bulwarks are probably a really good thing to be getting early on, as I feel like they act as a good answer to some of Northern Tribe's more aggressive stuff. Looking at the Winds from the North and Beyond, it felt like NT was rather brutal against HoE, but I almost feel like this could swing a lot harder the opposite way until we get Ice Archers, though I might be overestimating the Bulwarks without the Aggressors to clear threats off of themselves. We're also going to be seeing Scions drop in the middle of all this as a more complete army out of nowhere which is going to be strange to deal with. Hopefully the releases don't take too long for the other two to fill out their rosters.

It's one of those things. I get why they couldn't add everything on day one, that would just not be realistic. But yes, when the Scions drop it's certainly going to be interesting!

This'll actually be the next test game I do. I posted my first 215 point test game battle report on facebook and discord. Sadly, the Northern Tribes point values don't fit quite as well. I honestly would rather run with 1 less Bulwark, or Bucklerman, and then make up the difference with whatever future 10-20 point officer models there are, so these units could have more interesting special rules. As it stands, with a limited number of activations you're better off getting more stuff that attaches to units well.

Yes, the Northern Tribes are definitely in a very different place at the moment, I think! I'll keep an eye out for that test game, it will interesting to see how that goes!

The truth is that the Bulwarks introduce a very interesting dynamic. In general, the Hegemony troops seem more interesting and fun than the Tribes troops.

Nice review and nice miniatures. The only thing I dislike regarding the Bulwark models is that those spears/pikes are way too thick. Is CB worried about the fragility of the material?
