I've always wondered about the position of Astel's gigantic meteor in Yellough Annex Tunnel, because the Nameless Eternal City in Deeproot Depths is the one missing its frozen starry sky, and the buildings have visibly been destroyed by meteorites - unlike both Nokron & Nokstella. While the meteor still overlaps a gap of Deeproot Depths' map now, this alternate and directly linked version of the arena seems like an interesting reveal before those things were adjusted to be historic lore rather than a map-altering triggered event. The Caelid Astel cataclysm and the cliffsides around Mohgwyn being linked make sense with the half-finished feel of the surrounding cliffs, but also that's a unique area of architecture with its stone black columns made of the same material above in Caelid, which is mentioned in lore on the Golem Halberd. That link might also explain why there's that stranded Laser Golem boss in such a weirdly out of the way cliffside, as it may have been designed around some of the cataclysmic triggers and been left behind or repositioned above ground. Super interesting work as always!! (I'm curious if there are any unused maps in Farum Azula like this, as the area you start in after being teleported there the first time by Melina is unreachable after you drop down from it, which isn't true of any other location in the game insofar as I'm aware, and always stood out as strangely obscured even as the buildings seem to wrap around and up to it).
@nightscout99797 ай бұрын
Part of Nokron is actually in disarray, namely the area right after the meteorite crater. The city can be seen in this state from the Siofra elevator too even before Radahn is defeated, so something seems to have toppled a number of buildings and flooded that area well before the meteorite impact. It'd a rather odd spot to be damaged though, since Astel would have to lightly traverse the rest of Nokron twice.

Absolutely fascinating material! It seems like that at some point development, the path from Leyndell to the endgame was not through the Forbidden Lands; rather you would travel through the extended Deeproot Depths, to the Consecrated Snowfields, and maybe find a way up the lift of Rold from things looted in the Snowfields? That would certainly explain why Melina just hands you the Rold medallion sort of out of nowhere in the final product. Her just giving it to you after beating Morgott was an emergency solution due to cutting all this content.
@Dorito_Djinn7 ай бұрын
I think you're right. Hopefully one day there's a mod to restore this version of the map and maybe the cataclysms
@nightscout99797 ай бұрын
That could make sense, though perhaps the Rold Medallion was originally dropped by Morgott instead. In the final game, players are left thinking they can access the Erdtree after defeating Morgott, or, if they spoke to him, players can test and see that he was telling the truth about the path being sealed. Without Melina giving the medallion, reading the item description might immediately spoil there's more to come.
@davidepastore56007 ай бұрын
Notably, the Rold Medallion is split in two parts, like the Dectus and Haligtree Medallions, but Melina just hands you the already conjoined parts. This could hint at the Rold Medallion initially having a questline tied to recovering both halves, like its counterparts.

You have to be 100% correct about that cutscene, crater, and boss arena all being for Astel. Not only with everything you said in your own video, but the "Crater" left behind doesn't look like a "Crater", and Astel doesn't appear to enter the ground in the cutscene. The "Crater" does, however, look exactly like an antlion hole. The Astels are all based on Antlions. It looks like Astel was supposed to crash and then either implied to or would then have been shown burrowing into the ground creating the hole, presumably.

While antlions do create traps, only the juvenile antlions particularly dig around. The Astel might have pierced right into the Nokron cavern and the player would just find a tunnel uncovered by the impact. If the Astel was to have dug the tunnel, It may have been deemed awkward for the player to be close enough to witness the Astel's landing only for the Astel to ignore them and fight later, hence the cut.
@XogoWasTaken7 ай бұрын
Really a shame we missed out on that because actively chasing down a boss would have been really cool to see - especially one as conceptually unique and interesting as the astels. Nightscout raises an interesting point, though, that only juvenile antlions dig. That might not rule out the theory though. Perhaps we chase it down as it grows. It lands as a fallingstar beast (hence the name), which we fight in Radahn's arena, before it digs away underground. In the underground area, we have more fights with it, each starting as it's next phase of growth and ending with it running away. This would likely play out one of two ways: - Fallingstar beast (potentially full grown - maybe a two phase fight?) up top, then hanging astel as a hazard in the descent, then astel in the last big room - Fallingstar beast up top, full grown fallingstar beast at the bottom of the descent, then hanging astel and full grown astel in the last big room as a two phase fight. The smaller room at 15:19 contains a grace, both as a boss respawn and so that the guidance of grace can point you down that way from elsewhere. That would be some very quick growth, though, and it fails to account for the animation of the fully grown Astel falling from the sky.
@hi-i-am-atan7 ай бұрын
@@XogoWasTaken considering the way the astel animation mirrors radahn's meteor slam attack, i could imagine that you would approach and enter the arena while it's empty, thinking it's only a step on your path for tracking your quarry - only for one of the stars of underground night to look like it's growing brighter and larger, before astel comes crashing down into the arena with a fiery entrance, now fully grown

Radahn's arena originally serving as a gate to Mohgwyn Palace reinforces my belief that the reason for Radahn and Malenia's clash was that Miquella had already been abducted and she was trying to reach him. The locations make so much sense in the game as it is already, and this scrapped gateway just strengthens that interpretation, IMO
@Wet_Fungus5 ай бұрын
I think that when Miquella was trying to save Malenia for the rot, he tried to use an eclipse to cleanse her. This is shown in castle Sol where we see eclipse imagery everywhere, followed by a ghost whom says more on the topic. However, the eclipse could not occur due to radahn holding the stars. Miquella sent Malenia to kill radahn and allow the stars and moon to once again move. However, Mohg took this time to kidnap Miquella.

@@Wet_Fungusthe only part of this I don’t agree with is the part where Mohg up ducted Miquella during the battle of Aeonia. In the DLC it’s confirmed by Freyja that Miquella was present at the battle and was healing those who were afflicted by scarlet rot. Though, to be fair, I also think Freyja was shoehorned into the DLC as a way to justify Radahn being shoehorned into the DLC in lieu of Godwyn, so it’s possible that the idea of Miquella being there was just a retcon like PC Radahn himself.

Having read some comments here, I have a theory on what would have gone on with the whole area near Mohgwyn. It would have been a series of boss fights where we chase down and eventually kill a fallingstar beast as it grows into an Astel Two notable points I saw around about this are that the "crater" in Radahn's arena looks much more like an antlion hole (astels are based on antlions), and that it would be weird for the astel to do that because only only juvenile antlions dig like that, while an astel is a fully grown adult. It lands as a fallingstar beast (hence the name), which we fight in Radahn's arena. Before we can kill it, it escapes the fight by digging away underground. In the underground area, we have more fights with it, each starting as it's next phase of growth and ending with it running away. Who cares why it was cut? I just think it shouldn’t have been. I think it would have been a better game if they chose to keep more of the things they left on the cutting room floor

Wow, that's a lot, thanks so much for all those archiving efforts. For anyone who's interested in more than just the game, videos like these are so awesome to watch. One critique maybe: compared to e.g. Zullie or Lance the text you're showing often very quickly changes to the next text, not even leaving enough time to look at what you're actually trying to show. While I can just watch their videos normally, I often (have to) pause your videos. @kimlee66437 ай бұрын
This is kinda funny to me since I always find myself speeding up Zullie's vids because shots/framing tends to be unnecessarily long and hence the text also lingers for too long as well. Zullie's music choices are very repetitive/uninteresting to boot, which also encourages me to mute the videos. So I think Dubi's pacing is actually fine. Also, Lance narrates his vids so I don't think it's a fair comparison. A person's voice grants vids a cadence that otherwise cannot be achieved.

@@kimlee6643 I thought about putting a "disclaimer" in there how comparing it to Lance's videos but then I wasn't sure if maybe some of his videos are/were unnarated. Also, things like how text is displayed would still be an issue, imo.

The long path in Deeproot reminds me a bit of lower Siofra and upper Ainsel. Perhaps the terrain before the Deeproot river was meant to be like the Ancestral Woods, an expansive zone with Ancestral Followers, explaining why some are in the Consecrated Snowfield. As for the crater path to Mohwyn Palace, that reminds me of navigating the Limgrave crater on a much larger scale mixed with Deeproot's ant-heavy platforming route. Perhaps the Mohgwyn Palace path from Caelid was cut for fear that it wouldn't have enough content to justify the time spent traversing it. The region was by no means finished, so it could have been fleshed out, but the focus appears to be on what the player is climbing down to, rather than much of the path itself. If the area is mainly meant to highlight the Mohgwyn Palace, maybe it didn't bring the player to the region of interest in a timely manner. The final game's waygate seems to bring players to similar terrain but on a much smaller scale. Thanks for finding the exact location of the possible Snowfield elevator! I love thorough details like that, and I especially appreciate you loading the visual asset back in or creating a mock-up to better demonstrate what it would have looked like. Regarding the snow cataclysm, does anything indicate whether it would have affected something in Ordina to create a path down to the Haligtree? Is there perhaps any data in Astel, Stars of Darkness' files or boss room to indicate that its presence would be linked to a cataclysm flag? Also, to clarify, would the snow from the cataclysm have blocked off the Grand Lift of Rold? If so, would that mean players would have no choice but to teleport or take the Deeproot elevator to leave the Snowfield? Finally, did the current Deeproot Depths and Mohgwyn Palace already exist in the files around the same time as this unused content was created? Are the cut areas just additional paths to and from those regions, or could they have in fact been rough drafts of the places themselves? If it's the latter, pehaps the open area in the cut Deeproot content would have housed the ruined Eternal City and the river would be akin to navigating the Ainsel in the final game. Thanks again for all the amazing work you do, Sekiro Dubi! I still revisit the video about Kale's quest to the Frenzied Flame Proscription from time to time. I'm intrigued by your hint at unused Farum Azula structures too, and your comment about an alternative path to the Grand Cloister.

Moghwyn in general is fairly small and it never really made sense to me that you can only access it either through a random portal tucked away next to Castle Sol (Why would Mogh put one there, specifically? Hoped to steal Miquella while he was still at Castle Sol?) or through Varre's quest. I think in the base game, the way Radahn's death "summons" the meteor over Limgrave and *only* that meteor works very well in maintaining the flow of the game and particularly Ranni's questline, which currently is kinda *the* questline for base-game Elden Ring. The Radahn arena hole would fit perfectly for owners of the DLC, who likely have played Ranni's quest at least once before, and just want a shortcut to Mohg to get started in the DLC. Turning Radahn's arena into a guantlet of both Radahn and an Astel would be a perfect 'test' / 'check' to see if players are ready to actually do the DLC. I'd love to see mods that attempt to restore these areas in full detail, fitting the lore where need be etc. We got an enormous game as it is so I'm not entirely upset we lost these areas (compared to, say, Dark Souls 1's cut content), but it'd be grand to truly expand the game by using cut content as a base (rather than just modifying existing areas only).
@MrMrboy094 ай бұрын
Awesome video! Elden Ring was a Covid Game. Every game developed during those years came out Unfinished and with a lot of Cut Content. I do believe we only got 80% of the game that they wanted to make for us. 😅
@srwugrihf6566788jkijАй бұрын
Absolutely not, Elden Ring has a huge amount of cut content because it happened, not because of the pandemic. Dark Souls 3 and Dark Souls 2 also have an enormous quantity of unused content (expecially the second one, considering how much smaller it is), it's how From Software (and many others) works

This would have made more sense as to why Radahn and Mohg are required for the DLC. It would have linked the two of them physically in the world. Mohgwyn palace always felt very random and out of place, it looks like FS had bigger plans for that area which explains its weird state in the current game.
@doju55057 ай бұрын

It would be great if you checked out the Stone Platform inside the Erdtree. If you clip out, there is a sandy area with a drop off that I think we were meant to access at one point. I even found a blue warp that sends you back up to the Stone Platform. Strange considering its supposed to be in a tree.

Is a shame that a pre-access to The endgame part of ER are cut, I consider that might had been cool to fight every demigod earlier in order to utilize runes such as Malenias on a much greater extend if you somehow got her early. My guess is that this was done to prevent the players to not do stuff in order, although a much fancier solution might had been to have a Morgott spell over Fire Giant Arena to give a lore reason of preventing anyone to enter.

This is what is so great about Fromsoft. Even as ambitious as Elden Ring is, From had intentions of making it even more enormous. I'll be money we'll see the Catacylsm Mechanic or something like it in a future From game. They are known for recycling content they didn't have time to use in one game on others.
