Fairly good review. Since Harbor Freight does not list all measurements, it would be nice to inform that the larger (higher) drawers measure 4-7/8" vertical depth, basically 5", and the smaller drawers measure 2-3/8" vertical depth, basically 2-1/2". The widest width drawers measure 36-7/8", the second width drawers measure 22-1/8" and the third width drawers measure 11-7/8". The sliding depth (away and towards you) all measure 19-1/4" deep.

If you put a small screw and flat washer in on top of the latch it eliminates the latch without having to remove the whole thing. Then there is a detent that will hold the drawer if you don't push it in to hard, if you push it in hard then it opens hard. On my gen 2 I had to remove the latch and put a couple of magnet blocks behind each drawer. All in all it's a good solid box. Mines a 52 sitting on a gen2 72 inch.

Jimmy,great video, very informative. Just wondering, on your 42"roll cab. Does your roll cab have 2 -90* angle braces underneath the roll cab, between the wheels? The reason I ask, I bought 2- 42" roll cab recently. One had more and beefier bracing (4 total), and the other had fewer and flimsier bracing, only (2). Facing the roll cab, one had U shaped bracing at each set of wheels, along with 2- 90* angle bracing between the wheels. The other had only 2- 90* angle brace at the wheels, instead of the U shaped bracing. No bracing between the wheels.

Great video. I’m kicking around the idea of selling my 5-Drawer US General service cart and updating to a roll cab like you have. I probably should have gone with a cabinet to begin with but the price of the carts was too attractive. I’m just a DIY’er/weekend warrior so my cart just sits stationary as it is where it fits in my home garage, and I don’t really benefit from it being a mobile cart. I may eventually do the top box as well like you have as it seems like a good place to charge and store all my batteries for my cordless tools. I saw the power drawer they have on the bigger boxes but I think the top like you have would be better.

That action naturally produces an intensified focus to aid in a successfully completed Mission. Esprit D' Corps in it's rarest form. Many a Seabee can recognize this. That action within the split second of your video was genuine. I let out a chuckle while my wife was getting her H F shirt on in preparation to report to work. Tapped the subscribe button. And I said, honey, You gotta take a look at this! We both laughed, and enjoyed your video. Tonight she'll be bringing home after work, a new slate grey 42" U S General cabinet tool box for our interior mudroom. Just kind of a lil tool storage so we don't have to go outside to the shed when we need a tool for use inside our home. Because when it's subzero weather up here in the Great Northwest. There hasn't been too many times when finally acquiring the tool I need. I haven't found myself "SLAMMING" the toolbox drawer before returning to the confines of our warm home. Thanks Jimmy for the video, and enjoyment we got from it. Oh, and not to mention a new tool storage unit!

Good review. On a contrarian note, I purchased this same setup in part because it _did not_ have soft close drawers. Those things drive me nuts. Opening requires pulling past a threshold, at which point the drawer flies open, potentially spilling any contents not locked down in organizers. Give me an old-fashioned smooth-pulling/closing drawer slide anyday. Oh - I also removed all of the plastic drawer latches. A couple other noteworthy pluses of the USG Series 3 cabinets... drawers slide _completely_ open, so I can easily get to the socket in the far back corner. And there are a number of modular options for attached side tables, cabinets, etc.

How deep is the wide top drawer on the base cabinet? Trying see if it would fit my sockets on the hansen organizer trays. My big husky won't unless i remove the drawer liner. Kind of a bummer

It’s deep. I have all my air tools in that drawer - some of them pretty thick. It’s a great toolbox thus far.

We just purchased this but we’re at a loss as how to get the top put on bc of the weight/size. How did you get it put on the bottom chest?

I used my adjustable work table. A friend helped me lift it on there & then we slid it onto the box. It’s extremely heavy.

I can't figure out how to attach my top chest to my bottom box. Does it just sit on top of the bottom box? I figured there would be bolts that hold the two together?

I cannot find anything on the height of the top box as an alone piece when you open the lid. Did you happen to measure that at all or are you willing too??😂 thanks if you do!! I’m trying to fit it underneath where I have my work station from a converted Husky shelf. The website has just the height if the box is closed. So I guess I can add about 8-10 more inches if it’s open due to the angle but not sure

Will the drawers still lock with the key even when the drawer latches are taken off?

Yeah. On the bottom box if you look at the back of each drawer you'll see a little silver plate riveted in place. The other side of the plate has a notch that gets engaged by a bar that hangs behind the drawers and is actuated by the key lock. Locking the box drops the bar down, unlocking it pulls the bar up. The top box operates in a similar fashion with those cutouts you can see in the back of the drawers. The outside latches are just to keep the drawers from potentially sliding open on their own. Snap-On boxes use the same setup, other boxes (Mac, Matco, Icon, etc.) use spring detents on the drawer slides.
