This is the most detailed and importantly the most honest review our of about 10 reviews I have watched. Thank you, Richard. Some others did not even realise that the shutter blades are different from the original version. Your comments on all of the many new features as a result of the electronic contacts are also great, or extensive, not just those two obvious differences mentioned by other reviewers. You made the decision to purchase or upgrade so much easier. 👏👏👏

2:26 what is the difference between the flat and cinelike-d profiles?
@TheRealRichardWong3 жыл бұрын
hmm it's different look? i have to say i use flat a lot for my videos as i shoot under controlled environment and it's easy to must add a tiny bit of contrast/colour back and the video would look good.. so didn't try other profile too much
@Alexrocks12533 жыл бұрын
@@TheRealRichardWong it seems like cinelike-d has a more of a slight log curve look while tweaking colors while flat seems like a stronger version of neutral from what I’ve recently seen in comparisons. So many color profiles to choose from!
@TheRealRichardWong3 жыл бұрын
yes indeed. so many to choose from, could be a bit overwhelming. I tried a few but in the end i found the flat profile works well enough for me, so i stopped exploring haha
@Alexrocks12533 жыл бұрын
@@TheRealRichardWong sounds good. I’ll probably use it or cine-d only if I’m shooting in 8-bit (VFR) and want to grade since if I’m not grading I’d use cine-v or l709 and if I’m shooting 10-bit I’ll just use V-Log

Nice review… what are your thoughts of this lens vs the new lumix summiflex 9mm 1.7 lens?
@TheRealRichardWong2 жыл бұрын
The Laowa has less distortion and Leica has better lens flare performance but otherwise Image quality should be quite similar.

Friend, I recently bought a Laowa 7.5 mm 2.0 mft auto, but when I attach it to my Panasonic GH6 camera it makes an unpleasant noise. Is there anything I can do? Thanks

Not sure, I suggest contact laowa support for help

Hei Richard, what`s the difference between the 7.5 f/2 and the 7.5 T2.1 cine? And I can`t find the new version anywhere. Your link up her is only to the old version. Bernd
@TheRealRichardWong2 жыл бұрын
if you click the "mounts" dropdown, you can find the new version at the bottom of the list. The difference between this and the cine version is mostly the housing, the cine version has geared ring. And cine version doesn't have electronic contacts as well

What do you think about the 6mm Laowa vs. 7,5mm Laowa ?
@TheRealRichardWong8 ай бұрын
The view angle is quite different. 6mm is much wider so that's what I would consider more than the difference in image quality

A review with data and good images. Much more use than Red35's IMO. I had the original manual aperture version - and sold it with the rest of my gear when I thought I was done with the hobby. But 5 years later, my interest renewed, I plan to buy the auto version to round out my OM1 and OM5 system. Btw, I did consider the Panasonic-Leica 9mm. But the autofocus at this focal length is almost redundant, while the superior IQ and extra width of the little Laowa was the kicker.
@TheRealRichardWong7 ай бұрын
Thank you Michael! I think Red35's reviews are excellent too, just different style and focus. Jimmy's video is a lot more entertaining than mine for sure (and still educational)!

Hi! Would you get the Laowa 7.5mm if you had a Leica 10-25mm?

I would. There is quite a big difference between 7.5mm and 10mm focal length

Huh, interesting. I tend to work quickly so my usual approach to focusing on a MF lens is just the opposite of yours. I enable peaking with the display set to monochrome. Focus with the aperture stopped down at the desired f stop. The red peaking on monochrome evf/panel leaves no ambiguity about what’s in focus regardless of predominant scene color. Importantly the peaking shows the actual DoF; it shows directly what’s in focus. The combination of all this also makes focus and recompose unnecessary.

what’s the difference between the auto aperture, ultralight and standard?

Would the auto aperture function be disabled by the constant preview setting? I personally like to always see what my aperture looks like before taking the shot without the need to use the aperture preview. Thanks for the good video!

Vignetting and flare from my tests are actually annoying. 7.5 however offers a splendid angle of view. But given the price I think I would expect the 9mm f1.7 Leica even if a little narrower in focal length
