Oh Definitely! Huge World Party and Karl Wallinger fan here! I would also recommend their 90's ballad "She's The One." Many of their songs were definitely Beatles influenced but totally their own sound. I thought they would have been bigger. Unfortunately, many the great UK artists at that time were more successful in Europe. Radio and MTV were fixated on particular artists, Hard Rock, Dance, and US Alternative bands. Were it not for MTV shows like "The Cutting Edge", Joel's Holland's show, and "120 minutes," we could have missed them.

When I met my husband in 1988, this band was amongst the CDs he had. If I can recall correctly, his newborn CD library had Level 42, Peter Gabriel, Beethoven, Al Jarreau, INXS, RUSH, Alan Parsons Project, Larry Carlton, Stanley Jordan, Djavan, and Vangelis. Feel like I'm forgetting a couple. Anyway, I introduced him to Andreas Vollenweider, Sade, Teena Marie, Luther Vandross, Alexander O'Neal, Phyllis Hyman, etc. Since he loves jazz, I was surprised he hadn't come across Sade. The first concert we went to see together was Dianne Reeves. Perhaps react to Dianne's song "Better Days" sometime. Over the decades, our music library has only expanded. During the pandemic lockdown, we splurged on a turntable, and are slowly rebuilding our vinyl library.

@@seanswinton6242 actually no drums. Mo created the “stomps” & beginning sounds in his garage, then sampled them. But he would never tell how he created the sounds- though many interviewers asked.

I haven't seen you two in a minute. Level 42 is my favorite band bar none. They do have all kinds of styles they play. They started out as a funk jazz band. Listen to their first big hit off their first album called "Love Games". Also an African type beat in the True Colours album with the song "The Chant Has Begun". Ballads from the World Machine "Leaving Me Now" and off the Running in the Family album "It's Over" some of the best ballads I've ever heard, especially the latter. Also a deep, constant heavy bass songs off the World Machine album are "A Physical Presence" and "Coup D'etat" are just a few I will mention. There is an instrumental off their first self-titled album called "Heathrow" that's great.

Level 42 is an amazing band which started off as a jazz funk group in the early 80's. Mark King is the lead singer/bassist and the Co lead singer with the falsetto vocal is Mike Lindup, keyboardist.

As a teenager, I used to watch Level 42 playing the pubs around where I lived back then (Leatherhead area, Surrey) before they hit it big with Love Games. Great band. You should have picked a video that showed the band playing live. Mark King is a great bass player and vocalist, but the band are all musically skilled. And the Shep Pettibone remixes of some of Level 42's songs are brilliant!

You should watch these guys live from as recent as their concerts in the US from 2010 for their 30th Anniversary. You'll be astounded by their musicality, boy band this is not. Mark King playing Bass while singing and chewing gum is a treat, as are all the band members and Mike Lindup on keyboard with falsetto.

I ticked the thumbs up before you even started talking. I saw the band in concert in the 89s and mark king was absolutely hypnotic. Apparently he was originally a drummer which gave him a unique base playing style where he used both hands to get the most out of the base. Great choice of song for the first song, but their catalogue is mostly awesome.

My father unfortunately pass away last year. He was a guitarist and the front man of a UK band called Brandy. The band Brandy even played in Germany they never made it big but would still continue as we say in England playing at Pubs and clubs. When I was 8 years old my dad had a second job as a DJ at the weekends when the band split up but later got back together when my dad was in his late 50s. He absolutely loved level 42 all the great guitarists like Eric Clapton prince Jimi Hendrix and many more. So hearing this song brought back some memories my dad was also mad for Tina Turner he told me she had great legs but I could not tell my mum that. Miss you Dad❤

The lead singer, Mark King, is also the bassist. They have this great track, "Starchild," that was a big hit on R&B radio and in clubs. This British band had a secret weapon: French keyboardist Wally Badarou, who was pretty much an unofficial member of the group for a while. One day you should play his hit instrumental "Chief Inspector."
